Located at Toa Payoh Lorong 1, Creamier is a stone’s throw away from the busy Toa Payoh HDB Hub in a much quiet neighbourhood area, somewhere that is definitely good if you are in search for serenity.

Caramelio Almond is smooth and wasn’t overly sweet, but didn’t lost the richness of caramel. The almond bits added some crunchiness to the ice cream without it getting stuck between your teeth.

The waffles here are simply amazing. Fluffy in the inside, it tastes sort of the right blend of buttery and eggy goodness. The maple syrup used is also not extremely thick tasting and hence was not sickening at all. The Roasted Pistachio flavour was considerably lighter than the one I had at Gelateria Italia the other day, but still was rather rich. However, it also contained lesser Pistachio nuts in it as well. The Horlicks Chocolate Chips didn’t really taste much of Horlicks; in a way tasted pretty much nearer to Vanilla if anything. The chocolate chips did bring some of it’s flavour to the ice-cream, but it was not really enough to bring out much of it’s taste.

Good for some quiet (for now) Smile Jun 18, 2013

Necessary Provisions is a cafe that had recently opened in the area. Seemingly upscale and not really fitting to its neighbours, the dark interiors does not seem intimidating but really classy and comfortable. While the main focus here is about the coffee, they do serve up cafe food too.

I had not drank any coffee for the day, so I settled for the Espresso White 6oz. Before I made up my mind, the staff informed me that the 4oz was going to be strong, and since I was not in the mood for particularly strong Espresso that day I took a slightly bigger one. There is also an 8oz available too. It had a very nice aroma from its beans and had a nice body and having just the right depth of flavour into it and was definitely a cup of coffee I enjoyed from start to finish, even when it cooled down.

This might look like an average piece of cake to most but it is called the Gooey Cinnamon Cake. The Gooey part comes from the top middle part when it felt pretty mushy (in a good way that I am not complaining) and filled with the scent of cinnamon. The top of the cake was sweet and crusty; much of the texture coming from the sugar and the taste from the cinnamon, which complimented with the flavour of the cake underneath.

Merely Ice-Cream, with lots more Smile Jun 18, 2013

Categories : Ice Cream and Gelato

Merely Ice-Cream is just a clean and simple looking space with white walls and wooden furniture. The fun part is that there are slips of papers with drawings and notes under the glass top of the tables which most of them are left by customers; quite a cool and fun concept where patrons can be a part of decorating the shop.

At Merely, the staff are more concerned on you getting to enjoy their ice-cream, so do not be shy if you are the sort whom want to try all the flavours before you decide.

The Bailey’s Coffee here is one of the few of this flavour that I enjoyed thoroughly. While places that usually serve both Bailey’s and Coffee seperately are fine, places that served them combined usually have coffee overpowering Bailey’s or vice versa. I liked how the one here started with a hint of coffee, and then halfway throufh the familiar flavour of Bailey’s kicks in to provide a even weightage of each flavour. Breakfast Cereal is an even more interesting flavour from the combination of milk and cereal. The result was a nice milky sensation with a hint of cornflakes. It might seem weird, but I enjoyed the serving I had. The only small problem I had with the two flavours were that though it was not very distinctive, the ice-cream felt slightly grainy from the ingredients used; fine coffee grains in the Bailey’s Coffee and fine grinded cornflakes from the Breakfast Cereal, which was fine for me.

3 Inches of Fun! Smile Jun 07, 2013
Categories : Bakery | Desserts and Cakes

What is 3 inches huge that contains lots of oozy woozy fun with rich chocolate-y goodness? If you are thinking of chocolate lava cakes, bingo! Previously also available in Cluny Court, 3 Inch Sin at Millenia Walk might look like an average cafe selling pastries, coffee and cakes, but what they do best is actually molten lava cakes.

I did not have the mocha, but those who had it said it was sufficiently sweet from the chocolate sauce yet retaining the alluring scent of coffee. The coffee beans used by them are from Papa Palheta, which is simply aromatic and fragrant.

The Affogato that I had was brilliantly blended. The French Vanilla had a distinctively rich vanilla flavour and totally made a great match with the aromatic espresso, it is definitely an enjoyment to have.

The Molten Lava Cakes were literally a volcano waiting to erupt. A single cut made and all the chocolate starts flowing out like a slow erupting volcano. Besides the chocolate, the Bailey’s one also had Bailey’s sauce which carried a very strong alcoholic flavour that was just simply seductive mixed with chocolate. 3 inches of pure pleasure, I would say.

The Belgian Waffles are particularly crispy but lacks a bit of volume in fluffiness. It certainly felt fragrant but the texture could have been better on the inside. One thing we did not know was that the scoop of ice-cream added was at a-la carte price even though it came with a waffle; something to note if you are ordering them with ice-cream.

How about toast for lunch? Smile May 29, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Bakery | Café

Think of a Japanese bakery in Holland Village and Provence Bakery & Cafe immediately comes to mind. It’s spread of bread retailing at the first floor are always appetising, but I was there to try the cafe at the second level.

The cafe was located at the second level is a wide open and clean space with a counter, a kitchen, some seats and tables. There wasn’t anything that was distracting in the interior, just white walls with wooden tables and seatings. For a cafe like this, it’s also pretty impressive to have a view out of the shophouse. They sell a selection of sandwiches, toasts and even sell omelette rice and pasta.

I ordered the Honey Toast. It comes topped with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice-cream as default. The toast, unlike those you get in Hong Kong Cafes which may come fried are lightly toasted, retaining the fluffiness of the bread yet putting crispiness in the crust. The honey and chocolate sauce were also light, something that I appreciated as being a bakery, it should be the toast that is being the centre of attraction of the dish, and not having overpowering sauces to add strong flavours to the bread. For a bakery, the ice-cream was rather impressive as compared to my expectations as it was of a decent quality that would be fair enough to be sold in an ice-cream parlour.

The Cafe Mocha was huge, especially since I ordered a set. There was enough chocolate sauce in this one to make it taste distinctively a mocha.
