Korean Smile Jul 31, 2013

Red Pig Korean restaurant seems popular amongst Koreans and authentic enough given that it is run by Koreans. It focuses on serving barbeque pork. The signature red pig meat ($20) was very good. The meat was well marinated with a special kind of sauce not typically found in other Korean restaurants. The staff is also quite friendly and will help to barbeque the meat if help is needed.

Kueh Smile Jul 31, 2013

Poh Cheu handmade Ang Ku Kueh at Alexendra is very popular with foodies and for good reason. The ang ku kuehs were indeed excellent and have won rave reviews from many others. Besides the traditional peanut and red bean paste flavours, they also have black sesame flavours amongst many others. Priced at 70 cents, this is definitely a delightful treat for those who like sweet desserts. The ang ku kuehs were quite big as well.

The ambience of Blackbird Café was simple yet passes off as modern, which makes this a great place for quiet catching up with friends. The usual breakfast stuff like eggs benedict and pancakes are available but it is not a all-day brunch place. We decided to have the nibbles and ordered the crunchy chips priced at around $8. They were surprisingly addictive and good and I kept eating them because they were crunchy and not the least soggy. They also went well with dips provided.

Chicken Wings Smile Jul 31, 2013

A perfect chicken wing should not be too oily not too burnt. To achieve the crispy slightly charred outer skin and a well-cooked meat inside requires tremendous skill in grilling and TKR chicken wing executes the chicken wings pretty well. Costing about $1.30 each, the chicken wings here were very juicy, especially when lime juice is squeezed all over it. Do try it when you are at Newton Food Centre.

Good Thai Food Smile Jul 31, 2013

Ah Loy Thai is a comfortable small Thai restaurant at tampines mall basement that provides a delightful experience and authentic Thai food. The food here is relatively inexpensive, costing around 6-8 dollars per plate for vegetables/stir fried basil with pork, etc. Taste-wise, the food here is pretty decent. The olive fried rice was pretty good because the wok-hei was evident, better than their pineapple rice which is average.

Spending per head: Approximately $12(Lunch)
