Best Thai Food Smile May 02, 2013
Categories : Thai

I am now a fan of Ah Loy Thai, they have, in my opinion, the most delicious and value for money thai food. I always aim to try new dishes on every visit. The butter calamari is a must-try - fried till crispy, the sauce is simply heavenly. Tried the tom yum soup for the first time, was average, but the amount of seafood is quite a lot. The honey chicken was also good. Lastly, the fried fish is very tasty, fish was fresh and meat tender, sauce complements the fish well.

Eggs Benedict Smile Apr 23, 2013

Was craving for some breakfast food, so decided to try Arbite. Cosy environment, located on the second storey, seating is limited, so best to reserve in advance if you intend to visit during dinner hours. They serve all day breakfast, and the eggs benedict immediately drew my attention, as it is one of the cheapest I have come across at around $11. Service was also good as they allowed me to change the salad that comes with it to sauteed mushrooms. Simple dish well done.

Awesome Butter Squid Smile Apr 20, 2013

I have been a fan of Thaipan ever since I tried their butter squid - most easily the best butter squid in Singapore (or at least to me). Not only well-known for their butter squid, other dishes are worth a trip as well.

Having more than 10 vegetable dishes to choose from, I went for Broccoli with Fresh Crab Meat ($8). Nothing to rave about, but the crab meat gravy was flavourful and broccoli crunchy. Do try their Stir-Fried French Bean with Dried Shrimp ($8) or Kang Kong ($7) as well.

Honey Chicken ($9) was well marinated, crispy on the outside, and tender chicken meat on the inside. Honey Chicken from Thaipan can easily compete with that from Lemongrass.

Next up is the legendary Butter Squid ($10). How can one visit Thaipan and not have their signature dish? The most wonderful thing about their butter squid is, of course, the gravy. Thick gooey butter gravy with a tinge of spiciness from the small amounts of chilli padi added to enhance the taste. It's fried but does not taste oily at all. This will be the dish that gets snapped up the fastest if you go with a group of friends. But do note that it doesn't taste that good if you takeaway; best to eat it on the spot.

Mango Yoghurt Cake - was nice and not overly sweet, a healthy alternative to ice cream cakes which cost more than 3 times the price. We liked it so much we finished the whole cake within 2 days. It's actually frozen yoghurt with a little cake at the bottom. The cake was also nicely decorated, although they could have more toppings on the cake to make it look more colourful.

Great New Outlet Smile Apr 03, 2013

Always wanted to try Ambush, was so glad that it opened an outlet at the new Dhoby extension. Environment was good, not much of a crowd during lunch (but still advisable to make reservations).

Marinera Paella: looks so good presentation wise, but fails to impress with its taste. The soggy rice was flavourful, but not appetizing after a few mouthfuls, couldn't finish it in the end.

Salmon with Thai Basil Sauce Pasta: this is surprisingly good, salmon well marinated and the sauce adds much flavour to the otherwise bland-tasting spaghetti.

Overall reasonably priced mains and good dining environment. Will patronize again!
