Good place for sushi Smile Oct 08, 2013

Genki sushi needs to expand; having only 2 outlets in Singapore is not enough. It's arguably one of the best affordable sushi places around (other than the one at citylink mall which I haven't tried), and definitely much better than sakae. I got their soft shell crab handroll which was good, hot and crispy, and not to mention the must-try pollock roe sushis - either seared salmon or ebi, both are good. Also had their surf clam sushi and fried tofu. Very value for money.

Good Sushi Rolls Smile Oct 07, 2013

We went to standing sushi bar on a Wednesday for it's 50% off sushi rolls promotion again, which is quite a good deal. I tried several sushi rolls which I haven't tried on previous visits, which included the Crunchy Shrimp ($12) - basically prawn tempura roll with seaweed; the tempura wasn't crispy but it was a rather decent dish. My friend tried their prawn tempura which was average. I also tried the Rockstar Roll ($16.90) which I loved; it's seared salmon covered with mentaiko sauce, mentaiko sauce has a strong distinct taste but isn't overpowering.

Variety of food to choose from Smile Oct 07, 2013

Brought my friend to this place as we were in the vicinity; it was quite crowded during dinner hours. They offer very affordable dishes and you can choose from a variety of combination - like fried rice with sambal squid, rice with egg, veg and prawn roll, rice with chicken and kangkong, etc etc, all priced between $3.90 - $6.90. My friend had the combination of egg, kangkong and their famous prawn roll at $6.90 - would have to recommend their prawn roll (ala carte at $6). I got the rice with garlic chicken and egg - preferred the fish but the chicken in this sauce was alright as well. We also had some garlic pork at $8; do avoid this as it is absolutely horrible, the black sauce overpowers the whole dish and it's basically diced pork (we thought it was pork chop and fried before we ordered). Do get the cucumber with apple juice, freshly made.

Cakes Smile Oct 07, 2013

We decided to drop by Fabulous BakerBoy for some cakes after brunch on a Sunday as we were nearby. We had their famous Red Velvet, which I found better than average, but I'm not really a fan of red velvet cakes; would've preferred a stronger cream cheese taste though. I really liked the other cake we had - Nutty Monkey, a banana cake with peanut butter - combination of banana, peanut butter and chocolate was great. The cakes cost $8 on average for a slice, and are huge, so it's good to share.

I noticed many people having their eggs benedict and tuna melts, which looked very appetizing, and reasonably priced at $11+ or so. Would be there to try them next.

Steamboat Smile Oct 06, 2013

This is a very long established and popular place for steamboat. They are also well known for their chicken rice - which was good, chicken tender and rice fragrant. The portion of ingredients for the steamboat is also good and it's rather reasonably priced. The prawns, sliced fish, etc are all fresh. It is always crowded during dinner hours and a little noisy over there, but that shows how good the steamboat is.
