Grab a bite at Grub Smile Aug 17, 2013

Grub is located somewhere in Bishan/Ang Mo Kio Park; a peaceful environment and good for a stroll before and after a meal. We waited for about 15 minutes for a table, but saw a long queue forming after 7pm. Tried the Truffle Egg Cocotte ($7) for appetizers; loved the foccacia bread, and it tasted good dipping into the eggs, truffle taste was slight. I had the Crispy Fish Burger ($12) with a huge piece of breaded fish; portion was good, but taste wise, the batter of the fish was average. The fries tasted much better with pepper sprinkled on them. My friend had the Grub Cheeseburger, which was average as well but filling. For desserts, we had Churros ($8), with a sweet condensed milk-like dip and chocolate dip. If you're not a fan of fried dough, try their waffles instead (looks good and lots of tables ordered).

Heavenly Mao Shan Wang Smile Aug 14, 2013

My neighbour gave us a box of Mao Shan Wang durian from 818. It's best eaten chilled, and was simply heavenly; the seed was the flat instead of big and round kind, and durian flesh was so creamy and fragrant. It's quite a huge box but we devoured it within 10 minutes. I heard that it costs $40 for a box. If you are looking for good quality durian that is worth your buck, do give this a try.

Awesome Ice Cream Sandwich Smile Aug 14, 2013

I actually got this from the cajun kings, but they were merely resale: these ice cream sandwiches originate from The Ice Cream & Cookie Co, which I have come to know from their facebook page that they have many unique creations, and they have a physical shop as well. The Breakfast of Champions was great - cereal milk ice cream with a touch of whisky, sandwiched with cornflake sugar cookie. The only grievance was that it was a rather small ice cream sandwich.

Vegetarian Food Smile Aug 10, 2013

My friend wanted to have vegetarian food, and we were in that area, so we settled for Nature Vegetarian Delights. They have quite a wide variety of dishes to choose from, and average $10 per dish. The soup and beancurd dish was alright, nothing special, your usual mock meat and tofu, with other veggies. The dish really worth trying is the cereal mushroom. It's very crispy and addictive, and quite a unique dish as well.

Spending per head: Approximately $15(Dinner)

50% off sushi rolls Smile Aug 08, 2013

I have been wanting to try standing sushi bar for very long, especially their 50% promotions during weekdays. They have 50% off sushi rolls and handrolls on wednesdays. I decided to try their Crabby Chicken ($17.90), which has soft shell crab and avocado topped with chicken floss; pretty alright, but nothing special. I also had Under the Sea ($16), which has scallops with mentaiko sauce - this was very flavourful and the mentaiko taste was very rich. The beef udon ($16) on the other hand was average. Will be back to try more specialty rolls at 50%, a pretty good deal.
