Sampling table

There are lots of cheese available for sampling here, and every kind tastes very different from each other.

Other than those on the sampling table, the service staff also brought out many different cheese, and cut out sampling portions for everybody to try.

What is interesting is that the same cheese, subjected to different ageing process or duration, tastes very distinct from each other, so it's not only about the extent of the smell, but about an entirely different character.

In the end, I walked away from a 4-year old Gouda and Capriflocon.

Capriflocon - 100% raw goat's milk.

This is a creamy cheese and needs to be refrigerated. At the first bite, it feels like eating an entire goat, complete with its skin. It's like smelling an entire goat farm and having the same taste at the back of the throat - not kidding! It was rather overwhelming, but once you get past the first bite, the rest of it was less pungent and infact rather enjoyable.

4 year old Gouda - 100% silage free cow milk

"Not all Gouda are the same. Only when it is made in the ancient method can a Gouda be aged for this long. Only revived from extinction in 2003, only 2 producers in the world of The Netherlands make this today. Production is very small."

This gouda cheese breaks apart easily due to the effects of the ageing process - and that's how it is. I break off a small chunk each time and nibble on it as a snack. It has a very sharp and strong pleasant pungence, but is an acquired taste. I took it together with white wine and it was one of the best experience ever!

Overall the cheese were all rather delicious - I'm a cheese lover.

Oysters, $5 each

They oysters here are extremely fresh and delicious!

After ordering, we had to wait about 10mins for the service staff to bring the oysters to the back for washing and opening. Then they're served on a disposable plate with cubes of lemon.

We ordered the medium sized ones, but one of the oysters were very much smaller than the rest. However I understand that sometimes size difference is unavoidable, so I was acceptable with it.

After separating the oyster from its shell with a toothpick, you can just slurp the entire oyster into your mouth - creamy, fresh and delicious. Best $5 spent, gone within 10 seconds.

Can't wait to go back for more!

Seafood Paella Cry Jul 29, 2013

Mountain of Seafood Paella

Seafood Paella, $14.40
(Normal portion - $11.90, top up $2.50 for extra rice)

I tried the highly-raved Seafood Paella by Le Patio.

It looks good and smells good, but didn't taste like how I'd expected.

On the day that I tried this, the entire dish was too mushy.

I thought there'd be some flavour in the pretty yellow-coloured rice, but it tasted just like normal rice. The chicken was also mushy all over. The mussels were slightly smaller than the size of cockles, and were stuck stubbornly to the shells. Overall the entire dish lacked flavour, let alone any seafood fragrance. Only the prawns were good and had a little crunch texture to it.

However, I visited the stall within the first 2 weeks of the opening of PasarBella - this was before the actual grand opening. The food was still rather inconsistent, and I've seen the paella being either too mushy or burnt.

I'm going back to try it again, as they have now settled into the business. Hopefully the cooking is more consistent and the paella tastier.

Sliced beef noodles Smile Jul 29, 2013

Sliced Beef Noodles, Dry ($4.50)

One of the better and more affordable sliced beef noodles around.

As you can see, there's a generous amount of ingredients, on top of a mountain of sauce and noodles. It's really delicious too.

I'd say this version is different from Hock Lam Beef Noodle's version, but not necessarily inferior. Although the herbal taste in the sauce is less distinct as compared to Hock Lam's, I'd say there's still a lovely meaty fragrance in this.

Most importantly, although this is located in a food court, it's affordable and I'm willing to go to this food court to pay half the price (as compared to Hock Lam's) for a good bowl of hearty noodles.

Giant pizza Smile Jul 29, 2013

I've walked past Manhattan Pizza many many times, never tried it, but each time the temptation of the food increases.

So finally, here it is!

Meat Lovers Pizza, $6.80

The size of the pizza is huge! And considering the amount of food per slice, the price is rather reasonable, especially given that I had a meat pizza.

I like it that the crust is thin, and that every bite is full of ingredients and cheese.
