I thought Tampopo will serve set lunch like normal restaurant, but to my surprise, it didn't.

There were banners hanging outside the restaurant and showing the every week special menu, and I went to try the black pork yasai ramen, $16.80. My friend told me Tampopo was famous for its black pork, and since it's in the special menu, so without any hesitation me and my friend chose the same dish. The ramen was the thinner type noodle, and soup looked white, maybe milky? I had no idea and never ask. There were plenty of cabbage and mushroom in it. The most delicious part was the black pork. The golden crispy black pork was very juicy. Not over fried, but just perfect. It was placed separately above the noodle on a net.

I ordered another salmon sashimi at $22. Though it was pricey, but trust me, the salmon was very fresh and was quite a big and thick piece. While we were eating half way, the waiter came to us with a small basket telling us that was a lucky draw! Everyone will win something ( either big or small prize) So we were lucky enough to draw a free Ramen and a bottle of Asahi beer! So one of our ramen was totally free! Hooray!

We were too full for desserts, so ordered one orange jelly to share. The food overall was good.

Chicken ramen! Smile May 21, 2013

Sick of the normal char siew pork broth ramen? Why not give it a try for this chicken ramen!

Big piece of chicken drumstick and chicken soup made the name of the shop (Tori King). Same as other outlet of Keisuke ramen, you are allowed to customize your own ramen from choosing the soup base, oil and texture of noodle. Free eggs are prepared on the table. You can eat the free bean sprouts as an appetizer or eat together with ramen. In order to tell if a ramen is good, I always choose the original taste, without many add-ons, but just a plain nori (a very big piece of seaweed). And of course I add in sesame to enhance the taste of the soup!

Chicken soup is not that strong compared to those made from pork bones. Lighter taste and not so saltish. Very clear good essence of chicken! Choose the texture of ramen to hard, so it will not get soggy easily. The only thing I hope is the soup can be little hotter because as the soup get cooler, it will become very oily.

Lastly, you can enjoy 7% discount on the spot if you scan the QR code and sign up for a free coupon! Email will send to you once you have signed up, but is per person only. smile

Japanese and western cuisine in Ma Maison! What caught my eyes was the interior of this shop, very cosy! Floral table cloth and floral plates were used!

Came here for the set lunch! As usual, I chose the set A which was a daily set, so please check with the staff what they serve on that day! Well, there were different choices too. The set A was at a reasonable price $12.90++. All sets came with soup and salad, main course and tea/coffee. As for the main course, they will ask you if you would like to go with bread or rice. You will not want to miss the starchy delicious Japanese rice! Even eating plain rice or just ate with some gravy from main course was appetizing!

I think the set lunch is at a reasonable price!

The best Korean BBQ Smile May 16, 2013
Categories : Korean | Restaurant | Korean BBQ

Recommended by my Korean friends as the best BBQ, so went for a try. There are always long queue so it's best to call for reservation if you have more than 2 person. They do not allow reservation if is only 2 person.

Me and friend reached quite early, like 7.15pm and guess what?? The restaurant was already packed with customer and saw people waiting outside. So we went in to leave our name and phone for reservation. (Waiting time could be 15mins-an hour) But we were lucky enough that only waited for 15 minutes and got our seat! Most of the customer are Koreans, so you know that this place must be really good and authentic.

We ordered beef and pork jowl for the BBQ and a kimchi soup! All the side dishes were served very fast. There were 6 complimentary side dishes such as kimchi, bean sprouts, mashed potatoes and so on! There was another free steamed egg! ( most of the Korean restaurant will serve that) That was the best egg I've tried so far! It might not look attractive, but try it! The egg has all its taste! But too bad, the restaurant only allow ONE free refill for the side dishes. When you refill for the second time, you have to pay $6. Same thing for the lettuce. Since there was only 2 of us, we didn't need to go for the second time refill, so we saved on it!

The workers helped us barbecued our meat. So it was quiet convenient. Each person was given a set of sauce for dipping, as well as raw garlics. The meat was fresh and every bite melted on your tongue! Thumbs up for the pork jowl! If you want it to me crispy, stay longer on the barbecue net! You can order the Korean soju ( vodka like made from rice, very popular alcohol drink for Korean)!

Everyone talked loudly here, and that's the way to eat Korean BBQ! A very satisfying dinner indeed!

Love the Black Sesame Ramen! Smile May 15, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Hotel | Ramen

Please don't be mistaken! There are 2 ramen shop in Orchid hotel and this is facing the main road, Menya Sanji! This 18 seater ramen shop served special ramen , like Black sesame ramen, as well as Bukkake ramen ( some kind of dry ramen, dip with sauce while eating, like eating soba).

I am a fans of black sesame and without hesitation, I order it and try! Strong sesame taste blend well in the broth! Unlike others ramen soup, the soup base is made from chicken and pork, so can you imagine the perfect match just simply make the ramen tastier! Everything taste strong and good! The price varied depends on your choice of topping. The char siew is good as you can really feel that it melts in your mouth! I wish my ramen portion can be a little bigger ><. By the way, there are raw garlics, pickles for free on the table. You can add it in to enhance the taste of your ramen!

As for the Bukkake ramen, it's my first time seeing it after trying so many ramen shop in Singapore! I will definitely return for it!
