The place exudes simple elegance. Before we dive into a gastronomic indulgence, here's a bit of history about the restaurant.

The Platypus Kitchen Story

Before you conclude that this place will surely burn your pocket, read the restaurant's tag line!

Nicholas Lin or Nick, the very young and good looking chef (singles, you are free to swoon) and owner of Platypus restaurants and Blue Magnolia patisserie in Singapore, is determined to make your dining experience at Platypus Kitchen pleasant and affordable (Nick said they will do their best to offer their signature dishes $20 and below).

Nick revealed to us many times how he dislikes misrepresentation. Hence, if there's another tag line suitable for Platypus Kitchen, it would be "What you see is what you get."

Time to see it for yourselves! Do remember to eat before you continue reading the entire post! Don't blame me for feeling hangry later, ok? Yes, HANGRY. Short for angry and hungry. LOL

Let's start with the appetizers.
Crab Cakes ($12.90, soon to be $9.90)

Three potato fritters stuffed with crab claw meat, deep fried and served with lemon.

Truffle Fries ($6.90)

Thick cut French fries seasoned with white truffle oil tossed in truffle salsa and topped with shaved truffles. This is really good!

Risotto Balls

Mozarella-stuffed balls of risotto, breaded in panko then deep fried and served over rich pumpkin puree. DDMT! (Die Die Must Try)

This is how our table look like with the appetizers and drinks. We were served with Platypus Kitchen's mixologist inspired drink creations. Their Momo-Lychee Ale (set price $6.90) (lower right corner on the above photo) is refreshingly good. It is a larger beer flavoured with fresh peach and lychee nectar then garnished with mint and fresh lychees. I personally prefer their Smith's Ale though (lower left corner on the photo above). It is larger beer infused with green apples and lemon, then garnished with apples, lemon and passion fruit. The taste of the green apple somehow overpowers the beer taste so it's perfect for a non-beer drinker like me.

Hangry already? Haha! Wait for the main course...

Tadaaaaaaaaa!!!
Saffron and Caviar Risotto ($19.90)

Saffron infused risotto with char-grilled prawns and scallops then fished with sustainable caviar and fine herbs.
Care for a spoonful of this awesome dish? This is OH-SO-GOOOOOOD and reasonably priced too. DDMT (Die die must try)!

Squid-Ink Scallops Ragout ($16.50)
Squid-Ink Tagliolini served with seared bay scallops in a light garlic-dashi sauce. Nicholas said it will not stain your teeth. If you are a fan of squid-ink dishes, you must try this. Nick said it won't stain your teeth.

Truffle Carbonara
Egg Tagliatelle with double-smoked bacon and mushrooms in a truffle egg-yolk sauce. This dish spells heaven to me. 'Nuff said.

Pressed Pork Belly ($19.90)
Supple crispy skin pork belly served with braised apples, garden vegetables and a honey and clove apple glaze. This dish is very sweet and hearty. I made a mental note to order this for my girl next time, she will surely love it.

And I saved one of the bests for last! Presenting...

Spicy "Diablo" Crab and Prawn
Egg Tagliolini with prawns and crab claw tossed in a spicy egg sauce. Another heavenly creation by the genius chef.

I am not so much into spicy food but this dish left quite an impression to my taste buds. Yes, it was THAT good and not too spicy. Another DDMT!

Dying from hunger already? Wait, we have not tried the desserts!

Iced Sea Salt Caramel ($8.90)
Sea salt and caramel butter cream, chocolate peanut butter brittle, ganache and popping candy. Yes, POPPING candy!!! We were all joking around that we should record a video to show you how the popping candy pops in our mouth. In the end, we just indulge ourselves with this sweet treat.

NOTE:
I had a taste of everything down to the dessert. The servings were NOT entirely mine, we all shared for food tasting indulgence.

Delectable Desserts! Smile Oct 18, 2013

I have to agree, nydc is one of the perfect places to celebrate life. You don't have to wait for a special occasion to celebrate, life is meant to be celebrated everyday.

I love nydc's interior at their Tampines branch but I love their Bugis outlet even more. The brick walls, the nostalgic photos framed, the faux fire place and the pig in a motorcycle made my dining experience cozy.

Did I just say cozy? The photo above is L-O-V-E. Very homey, it makes you want to snuggle with your love one. I would love to indulge with nydc's dessert specialties there with the hubby.

Goldmine Cheesecake ($7.20/slice, $68/whole)

It's Ally's New York cheesecake with chocolate chunks, slathered with irresistible chocolate fudge topping. It came with solid Oreo cookie base. I am a cheesecake person but I have not tried chocolate cheesecake before. My verdict? The cheese and choc combination blended really well. Just perfect!

Boo Boo ($6.80/slice, $62/whole)

nydc's friends' chocolate cake with piped swirls of light whipped cream. For me, this is the B-O-M-B! I think the heart-shaped cake that we had last Valentine's is very similar if not the same to this. According to nydc, diners come back for this time and again. What's there not to go crazy about a chocolate cake baked into perfection? It is very moist, it literally melts in your mouth. A must try, highly recommended!

3-some Mudpie ($11.80/slice)

It's ménage à trois (threesome) of guilt-free kind. Get ready to get wild and gooey whilst sandwich between 3 layers of chocolate chip cookie dough, strawberry and strawberry cheesecake icecreams and graham crackers. Soooooooo yummmy!!! Strawberry and chocolate combination is fail-proof.

Jedi Mudster ($11.80/slice)

The force is tempting us with this enticing mudpie. It is made of double chocolate chip and Macadamia nut icecream on an Oreo base with homemade cookie chunks, complete with chocolate fudge and whipped cream. This is the crowd's favourite. There's no need to explain further why. lol

Cheap but good Egg Benedict OK Nov 10, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

I skipped breakfast last Saturday because I woke up late and had to rush to work. Luckily i finished work earlier and decided to treat myself a brunch before heading home.

Had a really good cheesecake and triple chocolate cake from Canelé on my birthday last month. I went to check out their all day breakfast menu. Was surprised to see their egg benedict for only $10 so i ordered it right away.

Oh boy, it was so good! The eggs were perfectly poached, yolk was runny, even the greens on the side was really fresh and the baked tomato with cheese was oozing with fresh tomato juice goodness. Their egg benedict is the cheapest yet tastiest i had so far. 👍👍👍

Unique Dining Experience Smile Nov 05, 2013

If you are looking for a unique dining experience away from the hustle and bustle of the city life, BlooiE's Roadhouse at West Coast is the place to be. Tucked right in the heart of Science Park II, you are guaranteed to be awed by the view of lush greenery whilst enjoying good food.

BlooiE's Roadhouse Bar & Grill is the first North American roadhouse in Singapore. It is the brainchild of Sarge Sargeant, a Canadian Harley Davidson aficionado.

I learned from his model-like wife who graciously hosted us during the OpenRice food tasting session that the name BlooiE was actually adapted from their first dog who is now in dog heaven. That's the story behind their logo.

Being the first of its kind in Singapore, BlooiE's has gained loyal customers by word of mouth. They are known for their homemade, delicious and generous-sized portion meals.

Warning: Please read further with full stomach. Don't say I never warn you, ok?

APPETIZERS:

1) BlooiE's Roadhouse Quesadillas ($16.90)

The big-sized quesadillas came with 3 choices of dips, depending on what suits the taste buds of the diner. It served its purpose to whet our appetite.

2) BBQ Chicken Wings ($13.90)I am not as crazy as my girl about chicken dishes but whenever I eat chicken, I always choose wings and other bony parts. This one did not disappoint my taste buds.

MAINS:

1) BlooiE's Bacon Mushroom Cheese Burger ($16.90)

Oh. Am. Gee! This top seller burger doesn't just look so good in photo, it is actually good in real life. Take my word for it, it's a must try when you visit BlooiE's especially when you are a bacon, mushroom and cheese lover like me.

2) Blackened Dory ($18.90)

This dish is a healthier choice for health conscious patrons. Dip that perfectly grilled blackend dory in the garlic sauce, squeeze that piece of lemon and prepare your taste buds to be tickled. You can opt to dip the mashed potato and juicy vegetables in a separate mushroom sauce provided. I did just that and I was in mushroom heaven! I'm a mushroom lover, remember? lol

3) Pepperoni Pizza ($22.90)

This is similar to the brick wood oven baked pizza I raved about when we were at Harris Resort? The thin crust cracks when you bite, you could tell that it is fresh from the oven. The pepperoni and cheese are like icing to a perfect cake. Pardon my luck of better words but you get the drift.

4) NZ StripLoin Steak ($29.80)

If you are steak perfectionist, you are welcome to skip this. It lacks the juicy factor of the other steaks I have tried before.

5) BBQ Beer Butt Chicken ($38.80)

Pardon the name butt this is something to rave about. It definitely belongs to the DDMT (Die, Die Must Try) category. It is actually the highlight of BlooiE's Roadhouse. As strange as it may sound, the whole chicken is marinated overnight with a special concoction of spices and seasoning, and just before the chicken is roasted, a beer can is inserted up in the chicken butt, set upright and grilled to perfection. It tasted perfect to my liking. Please note that this signature dish must be ordered 1 day in advance. You also have to inform them what time you are arriving because final preparation and grilling requires about one hour.

I love how BlooiE's is surrounded with wood works including furnitures, displays and crockery. It added plus points to the unique dining experience factor.

DESSERT:

Molten Chocolate Cake ($6.80)

There's no better way to end the food tasting session than devouring on this chocolate cake with vanilla icecream and a slice of peach. It may not be comparable to Chilli's molten lava cake but this miniature version wasn't bad at all. They used 70% cocoa so can you actually savour the chocolate taste without the taste of too much sugar.

Needless to say we all went home with happy tummies. Can't you tell from our smiles and tongue-licking emoticon? tongue

Thank you so much Fiona (the very tall lady, I told you she is like a model right?) of BlooiE's and Calvin of OpenRice for graciously hosting us. We will surely never forget our unique dining experience!

Treehouse Cafe is a perfect place for the whole family to bond over food, fun and great company. It is a place where parents and grandparents can dine peacefully while watching their kids/grandchildren have the time of their lives at the designated play areas.

The unique cafe boasts child-friendly facilities and a variety of European and Asian dishes that caters to three generations of diners.

Kid will get to enjoy the indoor treehouse and play area. The spacious area provides educational, art and craft as well as toys to encourage creativity and promotes bonding.

That's my girl busy entertaining a fellow mommy blogger's little boy by teaching him how to cook in the play kitchen. My girl later told me what the boy's favourite foods are.

They had so much fun preparing toy food, playing and chatting after we devoured on the following scrumptious food served to us by the awesome Treehouse Cafe crew.

Caesar Salad

Sizzling Prawns with Garlic, Chili & Olive Oil

Pork Meatball in Spicy Tomato Sauce

Beef Lasagna

We also had Hawaiian 10” Pizza , Curry Chicken, Braised Lamb Shank, Gourmet Steak Burger, Sauteed Spicy Mushrooms with Chili & Garlic, Rosemary Chicken, Tiramisu, Chocolate Lava Cake and Movenpick Icecream (photos all full review can be viewed here ---> http://www.sweetmemoirs.com/2013/06/treehouse-cafe-at-grandstand.html

Treehouse Cafe lives up to its tag line: GREAT FOOD, GREAT FUN!

We loved the child-friendly facilities most, including a nice and clean diaper changing room for mommies with babies/toddlers like me.
