pancakes Cry Apr 23, 2013
So my dining companion had cravings for pancakes and we were at Kovan. Just nice this place had some at an unearthly hour (7pm). But the pancakes were really forgettable because they came warm and soggy. I ordered some mushroom rice thingy and found it too bland with very little mushroom sauce. We also ordered some sausages and they were too hard after probably being grilled for too long. The flavours didn't come out and the sausages really tasted like processed meat.

expensive cupcakes Cry Apr 20, 2013

Categories : Desserts and Cakes

Decided to be a trendy Singaporean and join in the craze for cupcakes. But seriously didn't understand the hype about Twelve Cupcakes (or any cupcakes in general). Ridiculously priced at $3 per cupcake, I was not the least impressed. I tried the matcha topping one and they were less than generous with the matcha topping (or the matcha topping simply sucks). The cake base itself was normal and nothing outstanding. Oh well.

Not too bad OK Jul 30, 2013

Categories : Shanghainese | Noodles

Dan Dan mian is very much quintessentially a Chinese dish popular with many in the mainland. The quality of dan dan mian (noodles) is measured by how springy the noodles are, alongside the minced pork. Here, the noodles were relatively springy, although one may quibble about the length of these noodles. The minced pork itself was a tad too salty for my liking but the bowl of soup was pretty good. Not overly salty. For around 6 dollars, it's somewhat acceptable since it's a sit down place.

Small shop OK Jul 25, 2013

Categories : Bakery | Desserts and Cakes

Maple and Market is really a very small bakery shop that happens to have two tables for dining in, so don't be too fussy about the lack of seating. The cakes itself however very much takes the cake. Excellent. The 1919, which costs around $5 per slice, is a gula melaka flavoured cake that has coconut shavings and almond brittle between the layers. One bite and you will be in cake heaven as the gula melaka simply melts in the mouth. Excellent.

Decent burgers OK Jul 25, 2013

&Made / L'Entrecôte Express serves up a pretty decent burger. The patty itself was quite thick and flavourful with less of fillers and more of the beefy taste - great job!

The sesame seeds also accentuated the taste. The melted cheese was delicious and everything blended well to make a pretty delicious burger. A little steep at $19 though, although that comes as a set with fries and BBQ sauce.
