Katong Laksa OK Jul 18, 2013
Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Noodles

I ordered a bowl of Katong laksa (on-going debate over whether this is the real katong laksa aside) to try for myself and see what the hype is all about. It was really quite expensive, given that the smallest bowl is priced at $4.50. No chopsticks are needed here; only spoons are used. The coconut based broth was rather thick and it was mainly spicy was a tinge of sweetness. The creaminess of the broth shone through first which made this a really sinful bowl of noodles. The freshness of the prawns were however suspect. It tasted too hard and much too like frozen prawns.

Not bad sushi selection OK Jul 18, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi | Buffet

Irodori Japanese Restaurant has a very extensive selection of dishes for its buffet menu and its buffet is priced at a reasonable $35++, as compared to other more famous Japanese buffet restaurants. The ambience is also rather quiet and they offer lots of special dishes like green tea tofu (which was fantastic) and ebi mentai mayo which was also very good. The sashimi was fantastic because it was clearly very fresh and sliced perfectly without being too thick. Certainly worth a visit!

La mian OK Jul 18, 2013
Categories : Shanghainese

I was craving for some la mian and Crystal Jade La Mian @ Holland Village came to my mind so I decided to try it. The sauce itself was pretty good, as it was sweet and sour at the same time and came with a generous serving of vegetables. The noodles itself was quite springy and done pretty well although one may complain some were a tad too thick. One would have to mix up the noodles with the sauce properly for a good and relatively affordable meal at around $12.

Chicken wings Smile Jul 18, 2013

The coffee in Lola’s café seemed really popular and we had a cappuccino and latte. The cappuccino was good. The coffee was well-brewed. The latte however came across as slightly too milky but still pretty good. We had a chocolately looking donut which was pretty decent. Hardcore chocolate fans would surely love this. We also had the delicious fried chicken wings which won us over because it was not too oily and the skin was really crispy. Try the brunch menu (available on afternoons only)!

Poulet OK Jul 18, 2013
Categories : French | Restaurant | Desserts and Cakes | Roasted Meat

Poulet Roti (Poulet's signature roast chicken) comes with some unknown raw vegetables, and fresh mushrooms in a creamy sauce that tastes strongly of coconut milk. This is quite unique and nice, but I wouldn't order this for myself because a significant part of the chicken is chicken breast which can be a rather large portion for one person to consume. But to be fair, the roasted chicken was quite good. The skin was sufficiently crispy and fats easily removed. The meat itself was also very tasty and not too hard which is often the case for roasted meats.
