Buffet City OK Aug 26, 2013
Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Buffet | Kids-Friendly

Bought 2 StreetDeal coupons for a buffet lunch on weekday with my mom at buffet city. The website states that there are more than 100 buffet items but it is totally not true. The photos shown below are basically all the selections available, with an additional beverage section and two other sections (basically cooked food) which I did not take a photo of. I shall let the photos do the talking. All these photos were taken near the end of the buffet, thus most food look empty.

Seafood section, basically contained only prawns, scallops and mussels. Didn't try any of it but my mom says they did not taste fresh.

Sushi section, the sushi rice are quite bland.

Fried food section, just all the common fried food, mostly not too bad, kind of like their chicken nuggets most, tasted abit like mcdonald's version.

Cooked food section, I do not know what the first dish is, as when I reached the restaurant, it was already this little, and they literally did not replenish it at all. The three other dishes are omelette, fried bee hoon and fried rice. The fried bee hoon tasted not bad but the fried rice was bland.

Cooked food section which contains stir fry cauliflower, curry puffs, custard buns and har gow. The custard tasted quite nice though, but quite little amount of it and the bun was too thick. Har gow too, skin too thick, dry and tough. The vegetables on the top are for display purposes only.

Dessert sections, where most of the desserts were hardened. Consists of muffins, swiss rolls, fruit tarts( basically fruits in a tart shell, no custard at all), mini cakes, nonya kuehs, agar agar and fruits.

Ice cream section, which ironically seemed to be the best part of this buffet. The flavours available were quite alot, and all tasted quite nice.

Overall, for me, I think this buffet is ok ok, at least it did not make my stomach feeling too full but can last me quite long. However, for my mom, she kind of dislike this buffet and keep complaining to me about the food there.

Chicken rice OK Aug 23, 2013

Categories : Hainanese | Coffeeshop

This was an average tasting chicken rice, nothing really stands out.
There are two types of chicken meat, boiled or roasted, I chose the roasted one as the skin seems thinner. The chicken meat were not dry but also not tender enough. The egg was quite nice though, can taste the fragrance of braising. The rice was moist but not fragrant enough, tasted better after pouring the chilli sauce all over it. Overall, it still managed to satisfy my craving for chicken rice.

Dim sum OK Aug 22, 2013
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Dim Sum

Outside this restaurant, there are chairs for customers to sit while waiting for the restaurant to open and also for customers to wait for their turn to enter the restaurant, and yes, there is really such a need.

After reading online that this restaurant is always crowded, I decided to reach before it opens. When I reached there, there were only two customers sitting on the chairs provided and my mom and I quickly grabbed a sit on two other chairs provided. Not long after we reached there, more and more customers started to join in the queue, without stopping since then.

While waiting for the restaurant to start its business, we were give some menus and an order paper to tick the dishes we want. For a first timer of this restaurant, choosing of what dishes to order can be sort of 'hard to made' decisions, as all the pictures of dishes look so tempting and apart from a wide variety of dimsums, there are quite a number of other dishes too. However, since my mom and I were only craving for dim sims, we decided to order purely dim sums.

When the restaurant finally opened, all the customers rushed in to ensure that they can get indoor seats, and the sequence of arrival does not seem to matter at all in this case. Fortunately, my mom and I managed to get our indoor seats, which did justice.

One of the main selling point of this restaurant is that it serves dim sum in smaller portions compared to other dim sum restaurants, thus, customers will be able to order more varieties. The prices are reasonable and taste of food are not bad too.

Although there are only two of us, but we ordered quite a number of dim sum dishes, in the end, there are leftovers and it is good that there provide those take away boxes for customers to take away their leftovers.

Out of all the dim sum dishes my mom and I ordered, there were some hit and miss.
The ones that managed to leave an impression in us are: char siew pau, portuguese egg tart, prawn and banana fritters, BBQ pork pastry, xiao long pau and sichuan chilli oil wanton.

The dish that left a really bad impression in us is: pan fried spring onion bread (thick bread with minimal weird tasting spring onion fillings).

Other dim sum dishes tried are not too bad but nothing special too.

Night bread promotion OK Aug 22, 2013
Categories : Bakery

They are having a 'one dollar per bread' promotion during night time and I decided to get myself a few breads.

Been craving for hot dogs thus decided to grab myself a hot dog bun to satisfy the craving.
Hot dog buns are very common and tastes almost the same no matter which bread shop you buy from, maybe only the type of sausage used is different which may then affect the overall taste.
The type of sausage used in this bun is the drier and harder type, and had a just nice saltiness which I like.
The bread is quite soft and fluffy.
The vegetables were soggy.
The chilli and white sauce combination is nice.

Beside the famous pork floss bun from breadtalk, I think this version of pork floss bread looks more appetising and in fact tasted better.
It was quite long thus worth the money.
The bread is soft and fluffy and has a sweet crust on the top which matches really well with the pork floss fillings.
The pork floss fillings were quite a generous amount and sweet and savoury but not overly sweet.

Also bought two French toast sandwiches, one with ham, cheese and potato potato filling and the other with ham, cheese and mashed eggs filling.
The french toast slices were quite thick and I had to remove one slice off from each sandwich in order to fit nicely into my mouth. French toasts are harder than normal bread slice and have a slight buttery taste which I like.
Both the curry potato and mashed egg fillings are very little, especially the mashed egg filling, which was thin and too little.
For the curry potato sandwich, I can still taste the curry potatoes around the middle, but for the mashed egg sandwich, I can hardly taste any egg as it was too little and the toast slices were on the other hand too thick.

Mee sua OK Jul 23, 2013
Categories : Taiwanese | Restaurant

This mee sua with oysters and pig’s intestines had a weird taste.
Initially I thought the ingredients were not fresh but it was actually the broth, which lacked depth and kind of too watery. Simply topped with spring onions, without garlic and vinegar, the flavour just did not seem right. Portion given was also quite little, not exactly enough for a typical girl's appetite.
