I need to make a trip down to Tiong Bahru during one of the weekdays to do some admin work. As the Tiong Bahru Market was closed for cleaning up on the same day, I then decided to have my brunch at Tiong Bahru Bakery. This was my first time dining in here, but on my own.

Push open the heavy wooden door to get entry to the cafe.

These buns were so pretty to look at! The front three buns reminded me of "Pac-Man", with the mouth open. Haha... Which buns caught your attention the most?

Pretty tarts..

I had a cup of flat white ($5.50) and was very pleased with the very defined coffee art that they had for me. smile The heart shape was very nicely done.

Some of my friends who saw this said it was gross! The Squid Ink Bun! There's lots of greens in the bun, together with smoked salmon and ham. It was quite nice but of course, the saltiness of the smoked salmon overwhelmed the taste of the squid ink bun. How does squid ink taste like? I Dunno! LOL!

My nice brunch of the day in a very comfortable setting. smile

Fish Mart SAKURAYA Smile Jul 15, 2013

If you want to order sashimi here, first you can do your marketing at the "Fish Mart". Choose whatever fish/ seafood (nicely sealed, with clearly labelled price tag) you want from the chilled case and pass them to the chef and he will slice the fish and serve to you what you had ordered in a nice presented plate of sashimi. The sashimi here are very fresh. We ordered our favourite selections - salmon and swordfish. Besides the sashimi, we ordered tempura, potato salad, seafood miso soup, agadashi tofu, shishamo. Total cost around $50 for two. The meal was overall quite satisfying.

The kitchen is those open-concept type and the dining place, is a bit small which is just beside the kitchen area. After you meal, you may want to shop at their mini-mart which sell a wide varieties of Jap tidbits.

I think I am obsessed with ramen these days. This was my third bowl of ramen within a week. After doing IPL at Musee Platinum, it was already around noon and in the moring, I had a Pilates class. Thus, I was starving! I craved for something piping hot and soupy. Didn't want to go too far, I decided to step into Keisuke Tokyo for a bowl of hot ramen.

It was rather quiet during lunch hour. My order - Crab Stock Ramen and Egg ($15.80). Everything else I selected "normal". They provide beansprouts and chopped onions for every table. After quite a long wait, my ramen finally was served to me. You can see the the soup was really very thick. Overall presentation of the bowl of ramen was very nice. I am not too sure what the the "curly red threads" in the bowl, but they sure added colours to the presentation. The bowl used seemed to be different from those more spherical ones that I saw in other food blogs.

The noodles used are the broader and thicker ones. I took some beansprouts, very appetizing.

After service charge and GST, the total cost for this bowl of ramen is $18.60, which is steeper than many of its competitors. I think this meal was worth it for the food and experience. However, I may not revisit anytime soon as there are still many ramen restaurants in Singapore that I have not tried! Yes... the famous Santouka and Ippudo are next in my list!

RamenPlay @ 313 Somerset Smile Jul 15, 2013

It is Friday again! I decided not to have my lunch in school as I had an appointment with the tour agent at Centrepoint around 2.30pm. Took the train to Somerset and arrived at 313 @ Somerset. Decided to try out RamenPlay's Set Lunch for $10++. RamenPlay is located at the basement of 313.

Main Course: Tonkotsu Ramen
The ramen was those thin but springy type. The first mouthful tasted like the minced pork noodle that I like from Bedok North Food Centre. Haha... Not bad. The broth was rather flavourful too and meat was tender.

The set comes with chilli chives and a side dish. I chose the braised egg as my side. So in total, I had eaten one and a half braised egg, including the one in my bowl of ramen. The egg was quite nicely done, a bit runny. Overall, it was a rather decent bowl of ramen.

Always thought that roti bomb is just a bigger version of roti prata but look at this.

The plate is a normal sized plate and thus, the roti bomb is not very big. It is smaller than than the norm but also thicker. The roti bomb tasted sweet and was really crispy on the outside. I liked it quite a lot. If I am not going to my grandma's place for a proper dinner after this, I would have taken like 3 pieces to fill up my stomach. tongue Cost of the roti bomb is $1.50/piece. Other than the roti bomb, hubby also ordered another prata for himself and ordered a plate of mutton curry to share. This was also very good but cost $5 for a small plate.
