Contemporary Asian Menu OK Sep 24, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Café

Had lunch with my colleagues during the September holiday. As my colleague had to attend a workshop at Garden by the Bay, we decided to have our lunch there so that he could make it for the workshop and joined us later in the evening at the ArtScience Museum. We took a cab there and started to hunt for a nice and affordable restaurant. At first, we thought of going to Bakerzin, but then we were attracted by this neat little restaurant near to the taxi stand. The colour theme of the restaurant is white and from the shopfront to the interior, most of the furniture were white. Very comfortable setting and we felt relaxed whilst dining there.

You can find many contemporary Asian dishes in their menu such as Laksa, Curry Chicken with a bit of fusion too.

For example, I ordered the "Wok-Hei" Spaghetti. It sounds good and I also hoped that it would taste as good as the name seemed. However, I was slightly disappointed. The dish didn't really "wow" me and in fact, I thought it could be easily whipped up at home. Around $15. On the other hand, 2 of my colleagues ordered their set lunch at $14++, which came with a chicken main, soup and coke, they said that the chicken was really very tender.

Mother-in-law 60th Birthday: We wanted to do something different on her special day. Instead of a birthday cake, we decided to give her a basket of longevity buns when the clock struck 12am on her birthday. Got to know about D'Bun from ieatshootipost website and I suggested to hubby to get the longevity buns from there as I remembered they sell innovative design buns eg. shaped of rabbit/ lotus flower. Thus, we checked out the location of the shop from the website and headed down to Joo Chiat.

When we entered the shop, we saw many longetivity buns hampers ready for collection. We told the staff that we wanted to order a heart-shaped basket of longevity buns. As they had to make fresh ones for us, we were told that we got to wait for another half an hour. Ok.. we had to wait, as it was partly our fault that we didn't call earlier to place our order.

This was what we had bought for my mother-in-law:

They even attached a card with the Chinese wordings "福如东海" and of course a very big "壽". This would definitely make the old folks who received this very happy. Of course, my mother-in-law is no exception. Not only the presentation, the mini longevity buns tasted very good too. My sister-in-law liked it and she took 4 at one go.

Kims Family @ Lorong Kilat Smile Jul 15, 2013

Categories : Korean | Restaurant | Korean BBQ

I suggested to hubby to go Lorong Kilat for dinner as I had read up many food blogs mentioning about this place. We chose this Korean family restaurant. At about 5.50pm, there were still empty tables. About 15 minutes past 6pm, the crowds started to flood in and thus, reservation is recommended. Their walls were all nicely scribbled by the customers who had visted the restaurant. However, they didn't give us a marker, if not, I could also put up my masterpiece here =P

How many side dishes did they serve us? 13! Including 1 whole small fish! Hubby asked me whether we should keep the ones that we wanted and returned them those that we didn't want. Haha... I replied him that each side dish cost $1, must finish them all up. Of course, I was just joking along with him. I also didn't know whether we need to pay for the side dishes, but definitely it is not nice to ask them to take back the side dishes. We looked around at the other tables, they all had so many side dishes on their table. I wondered if I were to dine there alone, I just order an ala-carte dish, will they also serve me 13 side dishes for me? tongue

Ginseng Chicken Soup ($17)
The soup was not salty as they didn't add in any salt. Thus, it was pure ginseng taste and I thought it was nice, very authentic (If you don't mind the bitterness). I needed this as for the past few days, I felt tired easily so I guess this was a good nourishment. Inside the chicken, they stuffed in glutinous rice as well but I didn't quite like that. I just took the soup and the chicken meat.

Kimchi Pancake ($10)
This kimchi pancake was very tasty, could feel the crunchy kimchi. However, it came in very late, about half and hour later when all our side dishes and chicken soup were served. Initially, we thought that they had forgotten our order. When it was served on our table, we were already so full and we didn't even manage to finish up the chicken sad In the end, we could only finish up half the pancake... So wasteful right? Thus, next time, must come with a bigger group to minimize food wastage.

After we finished our food, they also served us a small cup of ginger tea each and 2 slices of watermelon. smile Hubby went to the counter to pay for the bill and I asked him how much the side dishes cost.
ALL FREE, and also NO SERVICE CHARGE for such wonderful service!

After having a hearty meal at Spring Court restaurant, we took a slow walk over to People's Park Centre. We had dessert at "Dessert Hut 甜品小屋". This place seemed to be very popular and had expanded to the shopfront opposite as well. Despite the expanded space, it was still difficult to find a seat as almost all the tables were occupied at 3pm on a weekend. On the other hand, "Tong Shui" cafe, also selling dessert, was rather empty. I am not sure why. Pricing? Taste?

Hubby ordered yam with black glutinous rice, something that I would like to have if I were not so full. Although what was served looked very different from that in the menu, it tasted quite good still.

Brother and I both ordered Egg Beancurd with Mango. It was quite tasty too.

Dad ordered Mango Sago but he put aside all the shaved ice onto another plate. Mum ordered chendol and she was all thumbs up for that.

Dozo @ Valley Point Smile Jul 15, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

We had been to Tao's Restaurant, Juju and now we are here at Dozo.
For lunch, it is a 6-course set and what is interesting here is that for every course, we can pick our preferred dish from a selection
Fruity drink was served in shotglasses before our meal.
While waiting for our food, we nibbled on the crispy somen sticks of different flavour.

Hubby's Gratinated Escargots topped with Yuzu butter
Took one escargot and it was quite meaty and chewy, left me craving for more!

Infusion of cepes mushroom and truffle
The staff explained to me that I was supposed to chew the truffle first before drinking the soup. However, the truffle was so thin that I could hardly taste any favour out of it. Didn't really matter as the mushroom soup was thick and tasty.

Beef Tenderloin on "pu-ye" and granite hot stone
I was really impressed with this main course in terms of presentation and taste. The beef was really tender and you could still cook the beef slices on the hot stones if you find them too raw.

For dinner, there will be an additional 1 course of cold dish. However, in terms of price, it will cost $20++ more than the 6-course lunch set. For our lunch set, it cost $93.70 for 2 including service charge and GST.
