Yamazaki @ Tampines 1 OK Oct 02, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Bakery

My little breakfast (motivation to wake up early) today..... I will usually skip breakfast during the holidays as by the time I wake up, it is time for lunch. Today, I make it a point to wake up earlier to have breakfast, at the same time also to tune myself to the normal routine.

This is green tea with red bean cake. It is not very firm and once you bite on it, the cake crumbs will fall all over and could be quite a messy affair. However, overall, I still like it because it had my favourite green tea flavour.

Mellben Seafood @ Pasir Ris Smile Oct 02, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Seafood | Zi Char

We had crab at Mellben the very next day we reached Singapore from Melbourne, Australia. Local food still taste better and much more friendlier on our pockets.
Ordered the same type of crab again, their famous "Jin Sha Xie" since this is their specialty and it never fails us. The meat was fresh and sweet. 1kg cost $40 and this one costed us around $38, just right to feed 2 of us smile

Some buns to go with the cheesy sauce.

Sambal clams went well with rice.

By the way, this Mellben branch is much less crowded than the other 2 main branches. smile

A Farewell Dinner for Colleague OK Oct 02, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean Western

A little farewell treat for a colleague at Beach Culture at Pasir Ris Park.
Ambience here was good and there are both indoor (air-conditioned) and outdoor seating. We decided to choose the outdoor area for dining, facing the beach.

I ordered the lychee soda. They will not provide ice-water but the funny thing is, when I asked for warm water, they were okay. My friend then jokingly said that since they served warm water, just gave us some ice and we will put the ice into our warm water ourselves. In the end, they did give us a can full of ice and didn't charge us. ??? *Puzzled*

Nacho with cheese and bolognese was nice and addictive.

Since there were 4 of us, we ordered 2 sets of the grilled meat platter. The lamb was very salty and we feedback to the staff when she came over to our table to ask us how was the food. I didn't eat the chicken as I was quite full after eating the lamb, steak and sausage. Thus, my friend who was sharing the platter with me could take my share. However, she said the chicken was not really nice too.

This was supposed to be mango sago pudding The photo in the menu showed the top of the pudding covered with a thick layer of sago but I didn't find it here. Thus, I asked the staff about the sago and also,we suspected the few sago that we "found" in this dessert was not cooked properly. She then took it back to the kitchen to check with the chef but came back telling us that this dessert had all been prepared already and asked us whether we wanted to change to another dessert instead. Thus, I changed to buttermilk waffle with ice-cream.

Although the food here was just average, but I liked this type of restaurant with a nice outdoor ambience. The staff were also friendly. Will be here probably with my hubby next time! Maybe to try out their chocolate fondue! smile

Nice Crispy Prata Smile Sep 28, 2013
Categories : Indian

We travelled from the far East to Upper Thomson for prata! Had not been to this place for quite a while, and now they also had kept up with technology, using iPad to take orders.

I ordered a mushroom prata ($2.80) and a plain prata ($1). Hubby ordered a milky prata ($3) and mutton curry ($5). The pratas were really very nice and crispy. The plain prata came in a round shape whereas the other two pratas, were quite big, rectangular pieces.

The place was very crowded and we decided to lunch at the outdoor seats.

Au Chocolat @ Marina Bay Sands Smile Sep 28, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : French | European | Café | Desserts and Cakes

My friend and I had wanted to order their waffles as there was a "50% off the 2nd waffles" promotion every Wednesday. However, to our disappointment, the waffles were not served at Au Chocolat bistro! We were told that the waffles were only served at Au Chocolat Confiserie which is located just next to the bistro. Thus, we decided to only the Kalamansi Meringue Tart ($9) and a Brownie ($5) to share amongst us instead in order to enjoy the comfortable seats at the bistro. The seats at the confiserie side are mostly high seats and we couldn't find a table big enough to accomodate 7 pax.

I love the tart but the crust was as hard as rock. No joke! Haha... Took me quite a lot of effort to break the crust! But overall, the taste of the sweet egg whites (meringue) went well with the tangy and sourish kalamansi curd.
