Birthday Lunch Smile Dec 01, 2013
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Shanghainese | Dim Sum

It's the Multiply girls' Birthday Celebration again and venue for this month is at Tea Bone China by Arteastiq. We have 2 birthdays in Nov - Wendy & Angeline.

Twelves beauties 金陵十二钗 $25.90 with impressive presentation consists of 6 pairs of the restaurant's signature dim sum(Sesame glutinous rice dumpling, Crispy wanton, Baked Lotus Paste Pastry, Chicken wrap, Prawn Dumpling & Custard & Salted egg yolk buns)

Beancurd skin salad $3 was served at every table. Delicious beancurd skin tossed with vinegar, chili oil and shredded cucumber

Fried rice w/crabmeat, dried scallop & egg white $16.90. A little pricey and it sure doesn't look impressive, but amazes us with rich flavors of crabmeat and savory dried scallops.

Custard & Salted egg yolk buns $4.90 It was really good. Buns are soft and fluffy; as for the filling, by looking at the picture, I reckon I do not have to go into details.

Personal Hotpot OK Dec 01, 2013
Categories : Steamboat/Hot Pot

An impromptu dinner with Angel, Ivy & Whye Wan. I was craving for steamboat few days ago, so Ivy suggested Xian De Lai 鲜得来, JEM. We were there on Tuesday evening & it wasn't crowded

There is an option of Set meal or Ala Carte Buffet (can't remember the price, but it was aout $25), so we opt for the buffet. There are 5 soup bases to choose from, namely: Irresistible Sichuan Spicy; HealthyTonkotsu Soup; Bak Kut Teh Soup; Secret Recipe Duck Soup & Thai-style Tom Yum Soup. All of them choose the Healthy Tonkotsu Soup while I had Tom Yum. No complains from them, so I reckon it's passable. Tom Yum is mild sour & spicy.

Variety of sauces were available at the center of table of the restaurant. Of which, only 4 catches my eye. Sesame Peanut Sauce (dilute & no sesame taste.. a little salty also); Spicy Peanut Sauce (not spicy & no peanut fragrant); Spicy Chilly w/bean (Not spicy & it's sweet cos of the bean) & Thai-style Chilli (not spicy; has a hint of sourness). Of the 4 sauces I tried, Thai-style Chilli proves to be the best dip for the night.

There were more than 50 dishes to choose from, but... ... the portion were very small, so I suggest you order more if you;re a big eater. How small is the portion? Eg. 2 portions of prawns turn out to be only 8pcs (for 4 pax)! However, the ingredients were all very fresh.

Apart from the fresh/ raw ingredients, there are also more than 15 side dishes to choose from. Braised Pork Belly in Tea Sauce is very flavorful & the pork is very soft. However, it is so fat you see a layer of oil on the pork belly when it has cool down!

The buffet also comes with a dessert of the day. Most of the staffs here were from China & they were pretty friendly & attentive.

Spending per head: Approximately $35(Dinner)

Sam is on annual leave, so she suggested going for Vintage Hi-Tea at House.

Food selections here includes mini burgers, pizzas from Skinny Pizza, cakes & pastries. The spring roll here, was wrapped with cabbage & it taste pretty good & refreshing with fresh ingredients

We also ordered a bottle of Apple Cider, $25 and it was served with a slice of apple

New Burger Place! Smile Dec 01, 2013
Categories : Fast Food | Burgers and Sandwiches

On my way home, met up with Evelyn at Orchard for late lunch. I suggested Triple-O's cos she's a sucker for burger! At 3pm, the restaurant is totally empty when we're there! Burgers were made-to-order, but we didn't wait long for it to be served

My order was the Cheddar Bacon, $9.90 (I requested for the cheese to be removed). Beef patty is tender & juicy; while the bacon is crispy! Not quite sure what's the sauce inside but it sure taste good. Pickle on top of the bun can be eaten on it;s own or placed it in the burger. I opt to put it in & together with the lettuce, it gives another crunchy feel

I opt to change the normal Fries to Sweet Potato Fries. Unfortunately, it was quite a disappointment. It is rather bland & it turns soggy after awhile. I still prefer the Sweet Potato Nibbles from Skinny Pizza

Recommended Dish(es):  Cheddar Bacon Burger

Spending per head: Approximately $10(Lunch)

Birthday dinner OK Dec 01, 2013
Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop | Seafood | Zi Char

Was here for a Birthday celebration. This time, instead of going to restaurant, we went Lai Huat Seafood Restaurant for some tzi char food.

First dish of the night - Longevity Buns, $16. Worst Longevity bun I ever had. It was dry & quite hard & tasteless. However, this is out-sourced by restaurant owner upon request, so cannot comply on the quality. The 2 Birthday girls. Mum & daughter's birthday is 1 day apart

Cold Dish, $60 This is also available only upon request. The dish consists of Fried Crab Claw & Scallop, which I find both are full of flour; Century Egg with ginger slice; Jellyfish in Thai chili sauce; Abalone slices & Scramble Egg with... Sharks Fin!

Fried Mee Suah, $20 is full of ingredients. Pretty good

Black Pepper Crayfish, $36. Personally, I find the black pepper too overwhelming I practically taste nothing else except black pepper

Crispy Baby Squid, $15 is sweet but some of it are a little too chewy

The Signature Sambal White Promfet, $30. The sambal taste nice but somehow I find it taste a little too much like dried shrimp. Fish used is White Promfet & it's a little over fried. Also, I would prefer it if it's Black Promfet being used.

Fish Maw Soup, $30. Although it's full of ingredients, it's kind-of tasteless & the soup is too watery

Fried Beancurd, $16. Fiona was raving about this but I personally find it nothing to rave about. Crispy on the outside, but the texture inside is like "steam egg being frozen, defrosted & microwaved, then finally deep fried". The oil also has this "over-used" smell.

Broccoli with Scallops, $20. Scallop & Broccoli are slightly over-cooked.

Spending per head: Approximately $50(Dinner)
