snack time OK Oct 10, 2013
Categories : Singaporean Chinese

Bought some local snacks from Mr. Youtiao to enjoy with mom. Mom said she's not keen on youtiao so I ordered Curry puffs and Ham Chim Peng instead.

Curry puff $1.20
The curry puff was not bad, has nice and soft curried potato with bits of chicken meat. Skin is a little thick though.

Ham Chim Peng $1.50
The Ham Chim Peng is available in sweet or savory flavors. I bought the savory one. It has quite ample amount of salty flavoring in spiral form. The dough was a tad dry but overall an okay snack.

Nasi lemak lunch OK Oct 10, 2013

There has been much debate about the best nasi lemak stall at Changi Village. The competition is between Mizzy Corner and International Muslim Food, both had loads of people queuing up at meal times. I have tried the nasi lemak from the later some weeks ago and now the nasi lemak from Mizzy Corner. So how do they compare? Here's the lowdown...

Nasi Lemak set $3.50
The set comes with 1 and 1/2 chicken wing, ikan bilis and fried egg. The chicken wing was very crispy and meaty, good! Ikan bilis serving was very little, taste wise ok. Egg has slight runny yolk, not bad. The rice is not as fragrant and soft as the other muslim stall, so overall I still prefer the nasi lemak from International Muslim Food stall.

Otak $1.00
This is not nice, don't bother ordering.

Conclusion, if I were to queue for nasi lemak, I will not queue for this stall.

Porky porridge for lunch OK Oct 07, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Food Court | Porridge/Congee | Noodles

I had heavy breakfast so decided to eat something light for lunch. This is the first time I'm trying dishes from this stall. After checking out the porridge varieties, I picked a Mixed pork porridge $4.50 and added extra braised peanuts $2 as side dish.

The mixed pork porridge consists of lean pork slices, minced pork balls, pork liver and intestines. Topped with crispy youtiao and onions. The porridge tasted not bad, ingredients were quite fresh but nothing really special.

The peanuts were braised till rather soft but not enough flavor...so so.

Soothing herbal tea  OK Oct 04, 2013
Categories : Chinese

The weather has been rather erratic these days and my throat has suffered some irritation due to heatiness. So i went to Hock Hua chinese medical hall and ask for a herbal tea to soothe my throat. The lady there suggested Honey Jin Yin Hua (金银花) tea $1.50.

金银花 has cooling properties but is bitter in taste, while honey soothes the throat and is sweet. Thus this cooling and soothing concoction tasted sweet with a bitter aftertaste...quite bitter actually urgh..next time I'm getting the Luo Han Guo instead.

Soupy dinner OK Oct 02, 2013
Categories : Chinese | Food Court

The weather is rainy and gloomy today...best time to have some warm soupy dinner. I bought Seafood soup $5.00 from Fish Supreme at Food Junction.

The seafood soup comes with several slices of fish, a few pieces of sotong, two small prawn with shell, two clams, seaweed and some veggies. The broth was quite sweet and flavorful, all the ingredients were very fresh but portion was rather small though.
