Dim sum lunch Smile Sep 02, 2013

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese | Hotel | Dim Sum | Seafood

After seeing positive reviews of the food at Royal China, I decided to try their dim sum with some friends on a Sunday afternoon.

The restaurant is lavishly decorated in oriental chic style with sky blue columns & ceiling and pristine white wooden furniture. Many commented that it has a classy 'Tiffany blue' feel.

There is a wide selection of dim sum and mains for lunch and all of them are ala carte prices (no buffet price). We ordered a whole peking duck and quite a number of dim sum dishes to share.

Har Gow and Siew Mai
These were heavenly, they contain chunky fresh prawns that were juicy and succulent, and both had thin skins which doesn't break when picked up with chopsticks. We ordered seconds for both dishes.

Char Siew rice rolls
Skin was slightly thick but soft and smooth with generous filling of yummy char siew. Good.

Zar Liong rice rolls
These are not easily found in SG, it tasted not bad but the youtiao wasn't very crispy.

Char siew sou
These were good, thin and buttery crust with ample fillings of sweet juicy char siew.

Pan fried carrot cake
The carrot cake has plenty of shredded radish and bits of chinese sausage in it, I liked that it is fragrant and soft texture.

Crispy beancurd rolls
Beancurd skin was fried till very crispy, coupled with succulent marinated fresh prawns...another well done dish.

Cantonese style porridge w/ Mud Carp balls
This was introduced by the service staff as their signature dish. The carp balls were handmade and has a springy texture, I enjoyed it very much.

Fried Udon
This is also recommended by the service staff. It was well fried with lotsa wok hei (smokey aroma), another crowd pleaser!

Whole Peking duck
The duck skin was wonderfully roasted, shiny and crispy without being too oily. The sweet sauce that comes with the dish was very good too.

Overall dining experience here was good, service was impeccable but tend to be a little slow during peak hours. They served superb food and priced them reasonably. Total bill for 10 of us after credit card discount was $408, great value for money! Do check out their credit card promo from time to time.

Tea infused set meal Smile Aug 06, 2013

Categories : English | European | Café | High Tea | Desserts and Cakes

I was at the MBS with my friend to catch a Musical, we decided to have our pre-show dinner at TWG. As we only have slightly under an hour to dine, we opted for the set dinner $35++ which consists of a Main course, a dessert and a pot of tea.

There are two TWG boutiques at the MBS, TWG Tea on the bridge & TWG Tea Garden. We chose the later for its closer location to the Sands theatre. The tea boutique is decorated with numerous pots of elegant orchid flowers, creating a pretty garden dining setting for the patrons.

The Main course, pan fried Mackerel fillet marinated with tea and spices, served on a bed of tea infused Spanish tabbouleh and chuka wakame salad, drizzled with tangy BBQ sauce.

The fish fillet was well marinated, very fragrant and tender. The tabbouleh tasted like couscous mixed with veggie bits, quite nice. And the wakame salad lends an oriental touch to the dish, both of us were impressed with TWG's creation.

The dessert is a Raspberry tartlet infused with rose tea and served with raspberry & rose flavored sauce.

This tangy dessert was uber refreshing, it has the right amount of sweetness and sourness combi, paired with the crunchy tart base that has a hint of tea fragrance...very delish!

We love the lovely food and service here, we'll definitely be back for more.

Mao Shan Wang cake Smile Aug 02, 2013
Categories : Bakery

Bought this for Mom-in-law birthday. It is a hefty $64.90 for a small 15cm cake. Luckily the cost is shared by whole family.

The cake comes in a spiky durian like shape...very cute. Three thick thick layers of real MSW durian mousse lined between the thin thin sponge layers. The quality of this cake does matches its price tag and it looks the part too. Do give it a try if you are a true durian lover!

Eggless vegetarian cake! Smile Jul 23, 2013

Hubby bought this at the Haig road outlet. I had it for breakfast today.

Eggless Vegetarian cream cake $2.50 (3pcs for $7.00)

I had no idea that this is not a regular bakery and that the cake I just ate was an eggless vegetarian cake. It tasted just like the regular cakes selling at other bakeries! The vanilla sponge is light and fluffy, not too sweet. The cream is as creamy as normal cake...yummilicious! lol
