Japanese Yakiniku Charcoal Grill Smile Dec 19, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | BBQ

Arashi Yakiniku Charchoal Grill is located at Boat Quay along Singapore river, a popular location among foreigners & Singaporeans alike for great seafood and some beer.

The restaurant emits a strong Japanese ambiance with their spotless clean wooden furniture and Tatami rooms. Their high quality grill system were also specially imported from Japan to ensure that customers do not leave smelly at the end of their meal.

The Ninniku Gohan ($4.80) is a must-order. The Garlic Fried Rice is light with a hint of saltiness + the fragrance of fresh garlic. Very yummy indeed. At only $4.80 for a bowl, this is definitely one of the nicest yet super value for money Garlic Fried Rice that I've had.
Japanese Tenderloin ($68.80)

And of cos, we can't miss out on the BBQ meat.
Kurobuta Pork Collar ($20.80)

The meat served at Arashi is definitely the best. Look at how pretty they look with the nice fats distributions.

The meat cooks really fast due to how thinly sliced they are, but yet they not too thin that you can hardly taste them. In fact they are just the right sizes to enjoy mouth watering juicy meat that literally melts in your mouth.

Meat are also served with various dripping sauces and my favourite is a ponzu sauce that is just a little tangy - perfect for bringing out the flavours and open up my appetite for more food.

Other than meat, Arashi also have the Assorted Seafood Platter ($28.80). The salmon comes marinated in a Japanese sweet-ish sauce, which I'm not really a fan of. However I do enjoy the scallop & tiger prawns which were very fresh.

Overall, I would say that the food here is really fantastic with one of the best services I had received.

We came in a group of about 10 pax and had one of the rooms to ourselves. 2 very polite service staffs attended to our table and throughout the meal, and they were very attentive to change our plates, the charcoals and topped up our tea.

They seems well-trained as well, and was able to recommend sauces to go with each type of meat.

Definitely highly recommended for high quality Japanese Charcoal Grill at affordable prices. A great place to hang with a group of friends.

Delicious Saba Smile May 16, 2013

Wasabi Tei is a little Japanese eatery situated at 5th floor of Far East Plaza. There are only about 20 seats around a counter, in which the staffs will serve you from inside the counter.

Food-wise, I order a Saba fish set at $12 for lunch and a drink which is compulsory at $2 per seating.

The Saba fish was really delicious! Grilled to perfection with crispy skin and juicy tender meat. Saltiness is just nice as well, I was really impressed! The set comes with a bowl of rice, miso soup and 2 slices of watermelon after the meal as well.

Definitely recommended if you are looking for some good Japanese food at afford pricing. But seats are limited so you might have to queue awhile before getting a seat.

A small little cafe tucked away in a corner of Robertson Quay, Bridger's Cafe is owned by a Korean couple & had a seating capacity of about only 20.

But don't let it's appearance fool you, this little cafe serves great quality food at humble pricings, lovingly made & served by the Korean owners themselves.

Turkish Eggs with Premium Sausages and Mozzarella Cheese ($5.80)
The Turkish Eggs is quite a delightful item on the menu, with a thin layer of slightly runny eggs with tomato paste, topped with Mozzarella Cheese & Premium Sausage. I especially like salty & slightly tangy flavour of this dish. The toast is abit hard, but does goes well with the eggs.

The downside for this dish is that the portion is quite small. But it's really cheap so I guess it's okay if you treat it as an appetizer.

Smoked Salmon Carpaccio Salad ($12.50)
I'm absolutely in love with this dish! Comes with Norwegian Smoked Salmon, lettuces, Mesclun leaves, poached eggs & potato, with a red wine + sesame dressing, a delicious plate of salad if you like Salmon.

The sauce is what really sold me. It's tangy & bursting of flavours that I cant get enough of. Dont forget to use the toast to soak up the remaining of this savoury goodness when you are done with the salad! lol

A great American experience Smile Nov 26, 2013

This outlet of BlooiE's Roadhouse Bar & Grill is located quite out of the way, inside of Science Park II. I had once dined at this restaurant many years ago and was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant is still around with the same rural, rustic settings.

With the big pond and surrounding of greens, BlooiE's always made me feel that I'm at some countryside instead of the bustling city, Singapore. A great place to relax with a drink with your friends.

We had some BBQ Chicken Wings ($13.90) which was great. It's sweet with tinge of spiciness. A great appetizer to start your meal with!

We also had Cobb Salad ($15.80) to share and it was super appetizing! Lots of fresh lettuce with Avocado, bacon bits, grilled cajun chicken, tomato, blue cheese & lemon vinegarette sauce. It's super yum!

The salad comes arranged nicely like how you see in the picture, and you'll have to mix it up yourself. The good thing is that you can control how much of the lemon vinegarette sauce you want to put in, but I'm all for putting more as I really like the slightly sour tangy taste in my Cobb Salad!

The BLooiE’s Bacon Mushroom Cheese Burger ($16.90), which is one of their signature dish, is absolutely divine! A thick 180g of beef patty with creamy mushroom sauce & strips of bacon, it's enough to make my mouth water just by thinking about it. I especially love the creamy mushroom sauce that burst with flavour in your mouth with the juicy patty.

Comes with a generous portion of fries as well. Highly highly recommended.

BBQ Beer Butt Chicken ($38.80) is another signature dish that you cant get anywhere else. Grilled till crispy brown with spices in a beer can stuffed up the chicken's butt, something you should try at least once in your life time. tongue

This is how the chicken looks like after the friendly staffs sliced it up for easier consumption. Very tasty & juicy with slight beer flavour.

*Please note that to enjoy this dish, you'll have to call in and order it 1 day in advance!

Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at BlooiE's, a place I would bring my friends to for a fun gathering night. The place is relatively empty on a weekday evening with just a few tables occupied, but you can see that the customers are here to really enjoy their meals & company rather than those eat & go type.

Their service staffs are really friendly & attentive, volunteering to help change our plates when we were done with our appetizers. A truly great dining experience with great ambiance, great service & super delicious food!

A great Korean BBQ experience Smile Nov 18, 2013

This Kkongdon Barbeque outlet is located at the first floor of Toa Payoh Safra, about a 10 minutes walk away from Toa Payoh MRT station. A convenient location to have a satisfying meal if you are around the area, or at the Safra enjoying their facilities.

This is my first time dining at Kkongdon Barbeque and I was pleasantly surprised at how clean & well furnished the restaurant is. Each table comes with its own BBQ stove pan and smoke vent.

The height of the smoke vent can also be adjusted. When you are leaving the food to cook, you can lower down the smoke vent so the smoke & BBQ smell does not get into your clothes and hair. Very thoughtful design indeed.

The restaurant serves Ala Carte meals, but you can help yourself to Korean side dishes at their free-flow salad bar with order of any of their meals. My personal favourites are the Korean marinated beansprouts and their fresh lettuces.

For my mains, I ordered a Short Rib with Black Pepper & Pork Belly Set ($20.80) to share with my colleague.

The set comes with a good portion of meat enough for 2 person to share. The pork belly although a little fatty, is good for oiling the pan as well so the food doesnt get burnt.

The Short Rib marinated with Black Pepper was too spicy for us as we cant take heat well. We feedback to one of the staff about this and she immediately suggested helping us to wash away some of the black pepper on the meat.

Kudos to her and her great service that we do not have to let the meat go to waste. Instead we actually enjoyed the short ribs as the meat was fresh & tasty, after taking away the overpowering black pepper.

Also included in the set is a bowl of Chicken Bean Paste stew soup, and a small portion Korean rice cakes.

The Chicken Bean Paste soup is very tasty, with flavours of the Korean miso but not too salty. It comes with generous amount of ingredients like chicken, cucumber, golden mushroom & tofu.

The rice cakes are chewy although the sauce that comes with it is a little bland. An okay complimentary dish.

Overall my experience at Kkongdon Barbeque was great. Although it was Ala carte style, the food served was more than enough.. with free flow salad bar, meat, soup & rice cakes for less than $30 for 2 pax, I would say that it is really affordable & worth it.

Coupled with a nicely furnished relaxing setting and great service, I would definitely come back again with some friends for a get-together eating session!
