Laksa in many faces Smile Aug 30, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Malaysian | Restaurant | Halal | Noodles

Laksania is a very interesting restaurants which serves Laksa in all sorts of faces. Here they have Singapore Laksa, Kelantan Laksa, Laksa Lasagna among many others!

Kelantan Laksa is not spicy at all with distinctive fine shredded fish meat. It's hard to describe the taste, it's abit like the Laksa we're used to, but not the same at the same time. It confused me. LOL

Sawarak Laksa is definitely different from our usual Singapore Laksa. First of all, the noodles is different. They use the thin bee hoon noodles for this Laksa instead of the thick bee hoon that we are used to, and the soup have a distinct herbal taste to it.

The herbal taste is not the bitter kind and quite acceptable to my palate. I usually dont take any bitter at all. I do think that this dish is nice but it taste nothing like Laksa to me. To me, it's a nice bowl of noodles, but not Laksa.

I also had a cup of Passion fruit soda to complete the meal! Very refreshing soda drink with real Passion fruit & seeds in it! Recommended!

Affordable Lunch @ Orchard Smile Aug 30, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Indonesian

In search of affordable places to have lunch in Orchard, we came to this little cafe like place opposite the somerset MRT station.

This cafe serves Indonesian food at really affordable prices healthy for your wallet. Definitely worth a try if you are around the area.

They also have set lunch specials for a main course + a homemade green tea for less than $6! smile

For my meal, I ordered a bowl of Bee Hoon Bakso and upgraded my drink to a can of Sprite for only $0.20 more! Worth it!

My bowl of Bee Hoon might look plain but that's because I opted out of garnish & vegetables. Although it looks plain, it sure doesnt taste plain. The soup base is quite flavourful and the noodles soaked up the soup well.

The beef balls are also huge and tastes like those you get with beef noodles, but just jumbo sized. Nice!

Ma La Xiang Guo OK Aug 30, 2013
Categories : Singaporean | Sichuan | Food Court | Steamboat/Hot Pot

As I continue to try all the Ma La Hot Pot stalls, I chanced upon this newly opened stall at the Food Republic at Causeway Point.

Like most of the Ma La Xiang Guo stalls in Singapore, you can choose the ingredients you want, and it will be charged according to weight. This stalls also sells some other Sichuan dishes but I didnt really get a closer look as it was really crowded that day.

My first impression of this Ma La Xiang Guo stall is that the variety of ingredients for selection here is much wider than most of the other places that I have visited, however, it seems that their price is also higher..

For example.. they charge $1 for 80g of Veg while most places only charge $0.80 - $1 for 100g of Veg. Prices for meat & mushrooms are also slightly higher.

Food is okay, not too fantastic and somehow have a little sweet taste which I dont really like. They also charge you an additional $2 for the pot base which I feel is ridiculous. What pot base? It's just some chilli and some condiments.

Our bill. It looks expensive but we ordered a huge portion for 3 person to share so I think it's still acceptable. Slightly on the expensive side, but still acceptable.

Overall, I think it's not worth to have the Ma La Hot Pot here as the food is only mediocre and it's more expensive than other places.

Fried Tang Hoon OK Aug 27, 2013
Categories : Thai | Halal

This Thai food eatery is located on the first floor of Far East Plaza, hidden away at the very end corner.

I have tried their Thai Basil Chicken rice before which is very good thus I decided to go for fried Tang Hoon this time.

Not the best choice as the fried Tang Hoon is really not very nice. The tang hoon is rather dry and didnt soak up any flavour thus it was bland & tasteless. The prawns were quite fresh & juicy though.

Overall I would recommend you to eat at this shop, but dont order the fried tang hoon.

Ayam Penyet Smile Aug 20, 2013
Categories : Indonesian

Walked past this Ayam Penyet restaurant with my colleague and we decided to give it a try.. And while we looking at the menu, we noticed that there's a 10% discount for employees working in Orchard! Score!

I ordered a signature Ayam Penyet ($7.90)

The tastiness & saltiness of the Ayam Penyet is just nice, but the meat is a tad too dry. Or maybe I was just unlucky as I got the breast meat. The plus point is that there are lots of these fried crispy bits that are super delicious!

Be warned! The chili is super super spicy! It actually burns! They dont seems to serve plain water as well, so try moderately.
