Tiong bahru bakery has really good pastries and breads. I particularly enjoy their almond croissant. I always get the one that has chocolate in it too! The croissant is substantial and very delicious. A chocolate croissant is split and filled with delicious almond paste which has a nutty buttery flavour. On top of that the whole thing is dusted with lots of icing sugar which makes it look appealing and adds some sweetness to the already sweet pastry.

Ocean kingdom seafood restaurant served both seafood dishes and regular zi char dishes. One dish I enjoyed with my family when we came here was the coffee pork ribs. The coffee taste was subtle but still evident, without being too overwhelming. The pork pieces were juicy and succulent and the flake almonds on top added a nutty taste. The crab bee hoon here is also very nice.

The ice cream here is pretty good! The Nutella ice cream I got was smooth and creamy tasting freshly made. The Nutella taste was very evident and the flavour was intensified by chunks of hazelnuts in the ice cream. Not too sweet but still rich enough, the ice cream had great balance of flavours and came together very nicely. Not too expensive too! With two scoops costing six dollars.

One thing I like at crystal jade bakery is the ma Lai Goh. The pastry is actually a sponge cake that is steamed and slightly flavored with brown sugar to give it the brown appearance. The cake is fluffy moist and especially good eaten on the spot when it is freshly steamed and warm. A very simple snack but it is done well, and satisfies my craving for ma Lai Goh.

The desserts here are very good. I ordered nata de coco and Longan dessert which was very refreshing. The ice here is very fine and smooth and melts smoothly in your mouth. The syrup concoction used is flavourful and has some complexity to it. Overall a very refreshing and delicious dessert just sweet enough and with lots of chunks of longans and nata de coco for contrast in texture and taste.
