Jalan Besar's Pig Organ Soup Smile Feb 14, 2014

Categories : Teochew | Coffeeshop | Chinese Soup

A lazy Sunday afternoon prompted us to explore somewhere new and we decided to head over to Jalan Bedar for lunch before doing a little cafe hopping. Initial plan was Lavender food court, but seeing there was no crowd at the popular Cheng Mun Chee Kee, we decided to pop over there instead!
PIG ORGAN SOUP

PIG ORGAN SOUP

PIG ORGAN SOUP

PIG ORGAN SOUP

Packed with all sorts of innards, lean meat, meatballs, tofu and salted vegetables, this is the signature dish of the shop! It is a good bowl of soup without the porky taste and smell, guaranteeing it of freshness.

The only thing I would pick at is that it is lacking in the sour factor so I was a little bit disappointed. When pair with the vinegar pork trotters, the taste also appears to be muted.

VINEGAR PORK TROTTERS

VINEGAR PORK TROTTERS

We decided to order this after a steaming hot bowl passed us and the strong fragrance had our eyes and nose trailing after it! If you love your vinegar to be super sour, then this will be for you!

I am not a fan for ginger smell and I am glad that the scent of ginger was delicate and subtle rather than intrusive. The portions as you can see are generously packed full of soft meat plus a whole egg!

Looking for cheap and good dinner place to bring your overseas friends to? Look no further cause today I am going to introduce one of my favorite go-to places when I have foreign colleagues in town!

Two Chefs Eating Place started in Commonwealth Crescent before opening a 2nd outlet at Sin Ming Ave(Bishan). The Commonwealth outlet is still the most popular one, so I decided to head there instead! Brought my family out for dinner and we happily order quite a few dishes.
DRUNKEN COCKLES

DRUNKEN COCKLES

You will see this signature dish popping up on different tables as an appertiser before the meal. Served cold and lightly cooked, this is a dish which people are usually aware off due to its half raw nature. However, dont shy away from it cause it is SO FREAKING YUMMY that you see a non-cockle eating me happily slurping the flesh of the shells!

Tangy sour and crazy fragrant from the ginger, chilli and spring onions, it is no wonder a signature dish at this eating place.

SGD 6
SPINACH WITH 3 EGG

SPINACH WITH 3 EGG

This was bland and watery. Definitely not a recommended item.
HERBAL CHICKEN SOUP

HERBAL CHICKEN SOUP

It was a soup which we almost didn’t order. Lucky we did cause it was so flavoursome! The chicken was so tender soft that the meat can easily break apart when I was scooping the soup. With a strong herbal after-taste, you will savor each bowl with especially during this rainy season.

SGD 8
GOLDEN MUSHROOM BEANCURD

GOLDEN MUSHROOM BEANCURD

One of the favourites that nigh, drench your rice with the savory brown sauce cooked with soft bean curd and golden mushroom and you will be sure to slurp up every single bit of this dish.

SGD 8 (small)
SIN CHOW BEE HOON

SIN CHOW BEE HOON

My dad, king of sensitive tastebuds love the beehoon even though I found it tasteless. He claim it has the “wor hei” burnt wok smell which makes it extra fragrant. I dont really fancy this dish, but they are definitely not stingy with the ingredients!

SGD 7 (Medium Size)

BUTTER PORK RIBS

The picture which I had of the dish was so blur but so yummy that I just have to mention about it! Soft slices of spare ribs are coated with sweet milk powder, I bet the little kids at the table will be sure to love this dish!

SGD 10

VERDICT

Definitely a great place to head to for family dinner with affordable offerings and great dishes. You would want to be there before 7pm where the dinner crowds starts to form a queue. The queue usually clears quite fast and the moment your butt is planted on your seat, the dishes will materialize in front you of you within 15 minutes!

Lp+ Tetsu is a French and Japanese smart dining restaurant which is helmed by Michelin starred chef Laurent Peugeout. Designed to have a semi open kitchen, diners can pop by to see the chefs preparing dishes after dishes of delightful offerings.
This time I was given the opportunity to try out their lunch set menu!

Soft buttery bread with an accompanying light tasting konbu + olive oil mixture which will fill you up if you are sucker for pastries like me.

STARTER OPTION 1 – SUSHI SANMA
STARTER OPTION 1 – SUSHI SANMA

STARTER OPTION 1 – SUSHI SANMA

I really enjoyed this dish despite having sanma fish for the first time. There isnt a strong fishy undertone and the yuzu miso adds on a slight tartness to the entire dish.

STARTER OPTION 2 – SALMON IN TARTARE
STARTER OPTION 2 – SALMON IN TARTARE

STARTER OPTION 2 – SALMON IN TARTARE

The wrap was packed full with salmon sashimi. I appreciate the addition of passion-fruit dressing which enhances the dish by giving it refreshing fruity kick. I would have like the avocado to be added into the wrap rather than being placed on the outside. Half the time it fell off the wrap while I am biting into it though.

MAIN DISH 1 – MAGRET DE CANARD
MAIN DISH 1 – MAGRET DE CANARD

MAIN DISH 1 – MAGRET DE CANARD

Flavorsome with a distinct smoked flavor, the addition of fruits added a hint of tangy sweetness into the dish to complement its savory nature. I was please to note that there was no distinctive duck smell which would hint at the freshness of the meat. Definitely a choice selection for the main dish!

MAIN DISH 2 – SAINT PIERRE

MAIN DISH 2 – SAINT PIERRE

The other main dish which was offered up consist of a Tempura and Dashi comsomme. A Japanese touch in this otherwise French menu, it boost a refreshing light option to the meal. We found the tempura lightly batter and fried till the meat is tender soft. Dashi consomme came with different variety of vegetables to give it a healthy touch, but it ended up a little saltier than what I would have like.

DESSERT OPTION 1 – KATSU POULIGNY SAINT PIERRE
DESSERT OPTION 1 – KATSU POULIGNY SAINT PIERRE

DESSERT OPTION 1 – KATSU POULIGNY SAINT PIERRE

Long story short, this is baked cheese dessert which I never regretted ordering! Lightly battered on the outside, the inside was filled with gooey sharp cheesy interior. I would say that you have to be fan of cheese to enjoy this dish, if not, you might find the cheese a little too overwhelming.

DESSERT OPTION 2 – FIG LAVENDER
DESSERT OPTION 2 – FIG LAVENDER

DESSERT OPTION 2 – FIG LAVENDER

Probably one of the best dessert for the night, I didn’t like it initially but it slowly grew on me with its chewy texture and light lavender scent. Served with a scoop of gelato, the dessert has a sticky nature which causes it to stick your teeth with every bite. That was the part which I didn’t like about this dish.

No.1 Tiramisu in Singapore? Smile Oct 31, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Italian | Bakery | Desserts and Cakes

Glad to say that I have found my No.1 Ranked Tiramisu in Singapore!
Tucked away in a corner, it is easier to find this place if you head up to B1 from the MRT. I had quite a hard time finding the place when I came down from the first level.

Quiet and comfortable with limited seating, you might find it hard to get seats if you meet the after dinner crowd. I would suggest heading over between 3pm - 5pm where they are currently having a coffee promotion where 2 cups are priced at $7 bucks.
Classic

Classic

This is probably the one which I love the most! I like how light and delicate tasting it was, with the coffee complementing and not overwhelming the entire taste of the cake!
Lychee

Lychee

Probably the sweetest one out of the lot, it was be great for sweet tooth who like a hint of fruity flavor injected into their Tiramisu. it is definitely my first time trying a Lychee Tiramisu and I find it pretty refreshing!
Green Tea

Green Tea

I had a hard time deciding between the green tea and classic flavor as my favorite! You will love this if you are a matcha fan. The green tea powder had a very slight bittersweet taste which I really like. Definitely another must try at the cafe!

There is another dark cherry flavor available which i didnt get to taste. So perhaps I should plan another trip down to try it as well as enjoy a cuppa of coffee while I am at it!

***

So there you have it! Awesome tasting tiramisu in Singapore isnt elusive anymore! Head down to Clarke Quay central to grab a piece now for SGD 6.90 smile

Brighten up your day @ Sunray Smile Oct 23, 2013

You know you have enjoyed yourself tremedously at a cafe when you actually bother to head over to its Facebook Page to “Like” it. That is Sunray Cafe for you! I had headed over after a swim with my fellow tam jiak friends to try out this cafe which is located at Brighton Crescent!
The American Breakfast

The American Breakfast

The American breakfast is a pretty hefty portion for a girl, even for someone like me, who is a big eater. Sausages, bacon and that deliciously milky scrambled eggs sitting atop another scrumptious scone, this is one solid meal that will burst that button on your pants.
Eggs Benedict

Eggs Benedict

Eggs Benedict were served atop scones, and that is truly one of the best combinations ever! I used to hate scones but this one was really really well done. Runny gooey york spilled over as I sliced into the egg, tells me it has been done to perfection.
Mushroom Bacon Risotto

Mushroom Bacon Risotto

Mushroom and Bacon Risotto is a glorious sight for the cheesy carbo fan in me. I tried to resist the sin (trying to be on a diet here) but I think I plough my spoon through several times for this dish.

Liquid gold I tell you! It is so shiok that you would have to go down to try it yourself!
