Great service, wide selection of tea, , extensive range of savoury bites, decadent desserts with a chocolate fondue as its centrepiece; the high tea session at Shangri La’s Rose Veranda is an affair not to be missed.

With 2 seatings available one weekends, we had chose to sleep in and settled for the 2nd seating at 3-6pm. Do note that even if you arrive early, you have to wait till 3pm to get settled into your seats.

The moment we were seated, we were passed leather bounded menus where we chose our tea choice for the day. Crazy hard for a tea lover like me who just want to try everything. The Japanese Geisha, Rose, Boudoir are good choices that you are go for toosmile
Laksa Goodness

Laksa Goodness

One of the key highlights in the session, was the laksa station on the buffet spread!
Pick your own ingredients drench the thick flavoursome coconut based broth all over it, one mouthful and you will be hooked! If you are a fan of Katong Laksa, you will find this to be a thicker and more coconuty version here. Definitely sinful, but oh-so-good!

The other savoury offerings range between Chinese, Indian, Japanese and Western dishes, so you will be sure to find something that you will definitely like!

A small selection of cheese platter is also available, and I do love the pairing of sharp red cheddar cheese with wholemeal bread. Do try it if you have the chance!

Dessert Selections

The desserts corner in comparision to the savory treats has fewer selections but they were all good. I didnt managed to try all of them as I was too full. I have a particular fondness for the raspberry tarts and vanilla creme brulee though.

Definitely a good place for high-tea, I really really love the service level provided here, where there is always someone nearby to cater to your needs. Desserts if possible, I hope it can be replenished much faster as the macarons often runs out. I didnt manage to try everything out as I was so stuffed, but so far even my dining partners are impressed by the food served.

Here’s a little savings tip for you! Place an online booking and you get 15% off the bill pricesmile

I was invited to Domino’s to try out their latest Cheesy Crust pizza, which cheese lovers will be sure to love!
Made from handstretch fresh dough, mozerella cheese is wrapped into its crust and later generously sprinkled with tasty Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs and parsley. All of that gave the new crust a crunchy flavorsome bite!
Thin Crust Pizza

Thin Crust Pizza

I personally fancy their thin crust pizza which is less filling and the crunchy bite is very shiok!
CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE

CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE

The chocolate lava cake really ooze! The picture I had of it was so bad, you have to contend with this one tongue A little too sweet for me, but I did see a lot of the ladies who had a preference for this. Oh well, who can say no to chocolate!
CARAMEL STICKY DESSERT

CARAMEL STICKY DESSERT

This is my favourite one out of both, as it came with a caramel crusted top and moist batter soaked in caramel goodness! It also helps that it wasn’t overly sweet so you can enjoy quite a few mouthfuls of it without getting je

RIZ AU CURRY

RIZ AU CURRY

Probably my favourite dish out of the mix, this dish had me going spoonful after spoonful of the savoury curry drenched rice. I like that there is vegetables added into the mix to kind of give me the hope that I am eating a little healthier.

Definitely generous with the addition of ingredient, a robust great tasting dish that I am pretty sure to have loads of adoring fans like myself

RIZ NOIR SQUID INK RICE

RIZ NOIR SQUID INK RICE

I am never really a fan of squid ink because I always feel that it was more for aesthetic purposes rather than taste. However the Riz Noir squid ink rice came with a distinct flavor, which was probably due to the ika sumi powder which the owners have imported all the way from Hokkaido. It also has a fragrant buttery taste which I love.

A recommended dish!

SOUFFLE DE NUAGE

SOUFFLE DE NUAGE

The well baked golden brown top promise you a great dish, and it certainly didn’t lie. Break into the puffy foamy souffle and dig into the tomato rice which is deliciously tangy sour. I love how the rice wasn’t all mushy and soft from over-baking, giving the entire dish a great balance in texture.

MIAM MIAM SPAGHETTI

MIAM MIAM SPAGHETTI

Exactly 110g of spaghetti to be cooked for exactly 7.5 minutes. The Miam Miam spaghetti has a strict set of steps in order to achieve its signature texture. Mixed in with their secret sauce recipe, it was a light tasting dish which I grew to appreciate. It is really good when you break the egg york and mix everything up!

I didn’t particularly like the texture of the spaghetti, finding it a little too hard. But to each of their own, there were others who love it and found it to be just right. Definitely a generous dish, for the ladies, you might have to share!

CHOCOLATE MOLLEAUX

CHOCOLATE MOLLEAUX

Looking devilishly yummy with the promise of a molten chocolate centre, this dessert disappoint us when the center turn out not so runny after all. A tad on the sweet side, I did prefer a little more bitterness to the chocolate since it is matched with a vanilla soft serve.

SGD 9.80
APPLE AND GRANOLA PANCAKE

APPLE AND GRANOLA PANCAKE

The pancake turn out a little harder than I would have like, but perhaps the frantic snapping of food porn have cooled it a little too much. With the yummy cinnamon and granny smith coated toppings, this is a dessert which can fill you up if you aren’t a big fan of mains.

VALRHONA CHOCOLATE SOUFFLE

MATCHA SOUFFLE

MATCHA SOUFFLE

Both souffles turn out perfect with puffed up tops which will be sure to make you salivate at sight! The flavors were subtle with a pretty distinct eggy flavour, coming across as a light tasting dessert. Definitely a choice which many will enjoy, but you are one who heavy handed when it comes to flavors, you might be slightly disappointed.

VERDICT

Definitely a place which I would be back, I am already planning to head there again with my other foodie friends! The mains to me are the star attraction at Miam Miam with their robust flavors and perfect play of textures. Desserts could be a little better, but it is no less enjoyable digging into it.

With such a cosy environment and pocket friendly prices, I am sure you will find yourself a fan of this place like I didsmile

French Onion Soup

French Onion Soup

The best selling item in the house, the French Onion Soup is one of the must try items for the night! With savory cheese atop a savory beef broth, I am delighted with the generous amount of caramelized soften onion that melts in your mouth.

Definitely one of the must try soups to go for as it has been quite a while since I had a good bowl of french onion soup! The trick to this dish is the mixture of 2 different cheeses, which I would leave you to guess what it is!

Smoked Duck Salad

Smoked Duck Salad

Really nicely done, I enjoy the mix of tangy citrus fruits slices with salad tossed in star anis dressing. The smoked duck was great tasting and I really love the how cheerful the dish looks with the hues of bright colors. Definitely a great starter to order to whet your appetite for the dishes ahead!

HALIBUT EN PAPILLOTTE

HALIBUT EN PAPILLOTTE

Wrapped up and baked in in white wine sauce, this dish had us slurping up the sauce greedily! The white wine sauce can be a little strong for some, but even my alcohol sensitive tastebuds love it!

The chunks of halibut is a little dry in texture which I felt did take some points off this otherwise extremely tasty dish. However I do understand that the Halibut which is low in fat content, isn’t a common fish in Singapore. Therefore they have to be freezed up and flown into Singapore, resulting in the dry texture.

Served with rosemary potatos and vegetables, this is a dish I would still order again when I am at Parsley and Thyme. This is coming from someone who doesn’t often take fish!

BEEF TENDERLOIN

BEEF TENDERLOIN

BEEF TENDERLOIN

The whole time we were at the restaurant, we saw several tables ordering the same dish and it is definitely no surprise! With tender soft pink meat (medium rare is love!), meat lovers will definitely go gaga over this!

A dab of blue cheese on top might come across as pungent to some. I for one, didn’t like that it overwhelms the beef which already taste so good on its own. It is was a well done dish, but I would request to lay off the blue cheese next time.

CARAMEL PANNA COTTA

CARAMEL PANNA COTTA

The addition of cinnamon crumble in the dessert was probably the deciding factor for the both of us. The crumbles add on a crunchy texture to the otherwise soft dessert.
Overall, it wasn’t too bad though we found the panna cotta to be a little too watery. We later found out it is a chef preference though.

CARAMEL PANNA COTTA

Crushed hazelnut praline and roasted hazelnuts sit atop a the chocolate mousse, how can we not order this?

I am personally a fan of dark chocolate, so the overall dish turn out a little too sweet for me. If you have a preference for sweet chocolate, then this would be the dessert for you.

Lp+ Tetsu is a French and Japanese smart dining restaurant which is helmed by Michelin starred chef Laurent Peugeout. Designed to have a semi open kitchen, diners can pop by to see the chefs preparing dishes after dishes of delightful offerings.
This time I was given the opportunity to try out their lunch set menu!

Soft buttery bread with an accompanying light tasting konbu + olive oil mixture which will fill you up if you are sucker for pastries like me.

STARTER OPTION 1 – SUSHI SANMA
STARTER OPTION 1 – SUSHI SANMA

STARTER OPTION 1 – SUSHI SANMA

I really enjoyed this dish despite having sanma fish for the first time. There isnt a strong fishy undertone and the yuzu miso adds on a slight tartness to the entire dish.

STARTER OPTION 2 – SALMON IN TARTARE
STARTER OPTION 2 – SALMON IN TARTARE

STARTER OPTION 2 – SALMON IN TARTARE

The wrap was packed full with salmon sashimi. I appreciate the addition of passion-fruit dressing which enhances the dish by giving it refreshing fruity kick. I would have like the avocado to be added into the wrap rather than being placed on the outside. Half the time it fell off the wrap while I am biting into it though.

MAIN DISH 1 – MAGRET DE CANARD
MAIN DISH 1 – MAGRET DE CANARD

MAIN DISH 1 – MAGRET DE CANARD

Flavorsome with a distinct smoked flavor, the addition of fruits added a hint of tangy sweetness into the dish to complement its savory nature. I was please to note that there was no distinctive duck smell which would hint at the freshness of the meat. Definitely a choice selection for the main dish!

MAIN DISH 2 – SAINT PIERRE
MAIN DISH 2 – SAINT PIERRE

MAIN DISH 2 – SAINT PIERRE

The other main dish which was offered up consist of a Tempura and Dashi comsomme. A Japanese touch in this otherwise French menu, it boost a refreshing light option to the meal. We found the tempura lightly batter and fried till the meat is tender soft. Dashi consomme came with different variety of vegetables to give it a healthy touch, but it ended up a little saltier than what I would have like.

DESSERT OPTION 1 – KATSU POULIGNY SAINT PIERRE
DESSERT OPTION 1 – KATSU POULIGNY SAINT PIERRE

DESSERT OPTION 1 – KATSU POULIGNY SAINT PIERRE

Long story short, this is baked cheese dessert which I never regretted ordering! Lightly battered on the outside, the inside was filled with gooey sharp cheesy interior. I would say that you have to be fan of cheese to enjoy this dish, if not, you might find the cheese a little too overwhelming.

DESSERT OPTION 2 – FIG LAVENDER
DESSERT OPTION 2 – FIG LAVENDER

DESSERT OPTION 2 – FIG LAVENDER

Probably one of the best dessert for the night, I didn’t like it initially but it slowly grew on me with its chewy texture and light lavender scent. Served with a scoop of gelato, the dessert has a sticky nature which causes it to stick your teeth with every bite. That was the part which I didn’t like about this dish.
