Pub or Restaurant? OK Feb 16, 2014

Categories : Bars/Lounges

Had dinner at Coq & Balls as it was available on the Entertainer app and I wanted to try somewhere new.
Was it worth another go? I would probably had to think again. I didn't bother much with the pictures when the food arrive due to the dim lighting and that it didn't promise me much.

The food was pretty underwhelming where I order a sandwich and also fish & chips. But looking at the atmosphere around the place, it seems to boost more of a pubbing culture then one of a restaurant. The whole time I was there I only caught sight of 3 tables ordering food, while the other are just paying alcohol money.

Perhaps when I am in more of a pub-ing mode, I shall be back again to try out their little bites which seems to the food of choice there.

Spending per head: Approximately $15(Dinner)

Atas Kong Ba Paos? Smile Feb 16, 2014

Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

Had a lovely dinner at windowsill pies where I tasted their Atas Kong Ba Paos which I have heard people mentioning about it over and over again! The first time I head of it, I thought that it was just going to be pretty similar to the traditional soft white and black combos. But when it was served up all golden brown, I started salivating. WTH it looks sooo good!

All three of them are of different flavors and they are all gloriously good. The taste is uniquely different for each but I love all of them equally much. The bun is sinfully fried, but the crispy crust is pure heaven.

Looks like windowsill pies aren't just good for pies, but also for Kong ba Paos!

Totally in my top ten favourite food places!

P.S I had to order 2 more slices of pies to end of my meal on a sweet note smile

Healthy simple and tasty, this is my favourite don to order at Ichiban Sushi for lunch.
Salmon Don

Salmon Don

The salmon is drizzled with sesame oil to make to more flavoursome and little chopped chilli padis are scattered on the top to give it a little spicy kick! Slather on a little wasabi and you are all ready to feast!

If you are a dining alone a don will be a good option. However if you have a dining partner with you, there is one combination value meal set that offers this salmon don together with a unagi don at a very worthwhile price!

Do check it out!

The outlet at ARC is really popular at lunch, so do pop over before 12pm if not you have to be prepared for a long wait as the lunch crowd picks up there! Service staff seems to be a little short so it can be a little slow, do dine in here only if you have a full 1 hr lunch break

Huge portions for a starving man OK Feb 16, 2014

Just headed down to Thorirah to get my Mutton Murtabak craving satisfied and I would say that their portion is huge! I ordered their small portion for SGD 7 and it was just nice for me and Mr Heng.

I had to struggle a little to finish up my half! If you can see upclose, it consist of a layers of pratas in between and that made every bite pretty starchy. Definitely a good portion for a hungry starving man,

But in terms of taste, i think Thasevi which is down the street is much tastier where they pack the murtabak with loads of ingredients and thinner layers of dough in between!

If you are looking for a cheap and good dessert place in Tiong Bahru after dinner, Tian Tian Yuan is a nice pitstop that you will definitely be able to find something that you like.
They have more than 30 varieties of dessert that is available so you can go crazy choosing your favorite.

I have been to this stall several times and I really love their cheng teng which is packed with ingredients. Their prices are definitely reasonable and they don't scrimp on their ingredients.

They can be overzealous with their sugar syrup, so if you are looking for a slight healthier alternative, you can tell the auntie to put less sugar and she will gladly comply smile

Great service, great taste and great variety. What's not to like?
(I only wonder if 20 years down the road, can we still find hawkers like them, since it is such a dying trade)
