Seafood Caterer Smile Sep 23, 2013
Categories : Coffeeshop | Seafood | Zi Char

Tonight, we are going to a seventh month dinner with my parents in law at Ang Mo Kio. The caterer for tonight is Sin Hup Seng.

The first dish for the night is the cold dish platter that has mayonnaise prawns, fried wanton, top shells, deep fried chicken balls, bak gua and century eggs. The bak gua and century is normal. The mayo prawns is fresh and has canned fruits laid on the bottom. The deep fried wanton is nice with crispy skin and well marinated pork/prawn filling. The topshell has a refreshing taste lemon/lime taste and is a little spicy. The deep fried chicken ball is nice and crispy.

Spring chicken with prawns crackers. The spring chicken is nice, tender and juicy.

Steamed fish, the fish is huge and fresh. The sauce is nice and tasty.

They still have other dishes but was wiped out before I get to take pictures. The food by Sin Hup Seng is nice and the serving is huge.

Best Lor Mee Smile Sep 23, 2013
Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Hawker Centre | Noodles

To date, I think this is the best lor mee I have tasted. The lor mee here is those hokkien version with thick dark sauce and thick fat yellow noodles. They added fried fish, ngo hiang, pork belly and fish cake into the mee. Their fried fish and ngo hiang are nice, crispy and well marinated. I think it is a must to add chilli, minced garlic sauce and vinegar to this lor mee as it will enhance the taste of this lor mee. The price for the lor mee is $2.50, $3.00 and take away $3.00. They are closed on every Monday and Tuesday and the queue can be quite long sometimes. I will definitely come back for more again.

Recommended Dish(es):  Lor Mee

Spending per head: Approximately $3(Lunch)

Tze Char Stall in Chinatown Smile Sep 23, 2013

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Coffeeshop | Seafood | Zi Char

My friend came with her friends the other day and she decide to ask us for dinner at this Kok Sen Restaurant again. A small coffee shop that is located near Hotel 1929. It can be very packed during dinner time and so do come early for seats.

Claypot Yong Tau Foo, think this is one of the specialty as most of the tables will order this. The yong tau foo is deep fried and simmer in a delightfully nice and thick sauce. This does not cause the yong tau foo to become soggy but instead it absorb the sauce and you can still taste the prawns in the paste. A very nice dish.

Hor Fun, I think this is one of the best hor fun I have tasted so far. Their hor fun has the wok hei taste and the sauce is nice with strong taste of seafood. The ingredients they use are fresh and we wiped this out in minutes.

Fried spring chicken, the staff that takes our order recommend this dish to us. The chicken is tender and juicy. The skin is crispy and it tastes even better if you dip and eat with the salt/pepper they provide together with this dish.

Spare ribs king, nice dish. Thou the meat is deep fried first and coated with the sweet sour sauce, but the meat is still tender, juicy and is well marinated. The sauce is nice. Great dish to go with white rice.

Staffs here may not be prompt as they are very busy at times but they are nice people, and so do ask them for their recommended dishes and they are most happy to assist you with this.

Nice Herbal Duck Smile Sep 23, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Roasted Meat | Brunch | Kids-Friendly

My dad is back from Shanghai and we are going to Airport to pick him up. Since it is dinner time, we decide to go to Dian Xiao Er at Terminal 3 level 3 for our dinner.

I like the herbal duck here, the skin is crispy and the duck meat is tender and soft. They have 3 kind of herbal duck to choose from. 1) Duck roasted with Angelica Herb, 2) Duck roasted with 10 wonder Herb and 3) Duck roasted with Wild Ginseng. We prefer the duck roasted with Angelica Herb ($35.90 for large size), the sauce and the duck has strong taste of the angelica herb and is so nice to go with white rice too.

Sweet and Sour Pork ($17.60), the sweet and sour pork here is alright, the pork is still slightly crispy after it is cooked with the sweet and sour sauce. Their sweet and sour sauce has well balanced taste of sweet and sour.

Chinese Spinach ($24.30), the soup that is cooked with the vegetable is nice and tasty. Most importantly, it is not too salty.

Fish Maw Soup ($33.60), this is my favourite dish in Dian Xiao Er, the soup is thick, sweet and has generous servings of fish maw and shredded chicken. I like to add vinegar and pepper into my soup.

Baby Kai Lan ($18.90), the vegetable is not overcooked and is nice.

Fried Shrimp Egg ($21.60), normal, nothing much to rave.

Beancurd Smile Sep 23, 2013
Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre | Desserts and Cakes

I am a great fan for soya bean curd and soya bean drink and I am so glad that there is a selegie soya bean stall near my house and I can ease my crave each time I have carving for bean curd or soya milk.

Selegie bean curd is smooth and has strong taste of soya bean. I like to add soya milk to my bean curd so that it will not be too sweet. Apart from soyabean drink and beancurd, they also have chin chow (grass jelly) drink too.
