Great coffee, quiet neighbourhood Smile Dec 03, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Café

Along the stretch of the Sembawang Hill shophouses, lies this rather hidden cafe in this quiet estate. Being a franchise of the Australian outlet, you can expect the same services you get from there, here. That means, different types of coffee from all around the world and free coffee tasting!

The Flat White tasted great. It is rather thick and with the right amount of milk added, produces a coffee taste that is not too overwhelming.

The Carrot Cake is flavourful and slightly crumbly. Soft on the inside, crumbly on the outside.

For a quiet place to study and relax or talk about work, this place offers the environment to do so (and with its great coffee and cakes!).

A marshmallow cafe experience Smile Dec 03, 2013

For the full review and more photos, please visit http://makanarts.com/2013/12/03/the-marshmallow-tree-46-telok-blangah-drive/

Constantly finding a place to drink a cup of coffee while relaxing, I went to The Marshmallow Tree. Situated in a HDB block below Telok Blangah, this place is well-decorated with different types of seatings and to the young at heart.

Initially I thought the Bandung Latte was a caffeinated drink, until the server told me it wasn't. Still, this was a very nice drink. With the correct amount of steamed milk, vanilla and rose syrup added, it feels sweet and milky enough. The only downside to this is that I felt that it was rather pricey.

The Macaron S'mores is also something unique to order here. The smores, which is essentially a marshmallow in between 2 macaron shells and smothered with the sauce of your liking (I chose Nutella). The smores burst upon the first mouthful. The marshmallows were soft and the Nutella made it feel more enriching. The shells were rather hard to chew on though.

If you live nearby Telok Blangah, why not give this place a visit? I will find myself being here if I'm around the area again (I feel like trying the waffles!)

Churros-mania! Smile Dec 01, 2013

For the full review and more photos, please visit http://makanarts.com/2013/12/01/churrosity-241-holland-road/

Churrosity has been opened for quite some time in Holland Village, being the only take-away booth in the region to offer churros. I finally had the chance to have it while walking down Holland Village.

The regular Churros Bites ($3.20), added with chocolate sauce was great. It was well-coated with sugar and cinnamon and accompanied with the chocolate sauce it tasted divine. However, it was slightly less crispy, less hollow and harder to bite off. This will not deter people from having it as the taste is still very similar.

If you are craving for churros and is around Holland Village, this is the place to come to (it's affordable and it's a take away counter!)

"Local" ice cream flavours Smile Dec 01, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean | Ice Cream and Gelato

Tanjong Katong is home to many eateries. While many chooses to go there for regular food, I chose to went there for ice cream after dinner somewhere else. Little Ice Cream Kafe is one of such ice cream parlours there. They have also open a small ice-cream kiosk in AMK Hub (but why not visit the main outlet since it’s nearby!).

The Red Velvet and Frosty Watermelon. The Red Velvet tasted rather great, if it isn’t more of the chocolate taste than vanilla taste inside. The Frosty Watermelon tasted refreshing and almost tasted non-artificial.

The Red Velvet and Salted Caramel Coffee. The Salted Caramel Coffee tasted equally salty and sweet with a pinch of coffee taste (I would have preferred Salted Caramel’s for the stronger salty and sweet taste)

Great cakes in the west Smile Nov 30, 2013

For the full review and more photos, please visit http://makanarts.com/2013/11/30/lynns-cakes-coffee-11-eng-kong-terrace/

Hearing about another addition to the Eng Kong Terrace area, I came down to Lynn's Cakes & Coffee to look at its operating hours (I was there only around 9.15pm and thought it may be closed) and ended up going in after realising it was opened still (there was a huge crowd by that time still)!

The Red Velvet Cake is one of their best sellers. True enough, it stands out to its selling crowd. It tries out for a medium between chocolate, vanilla and cream cheese, which although it tastes slightly more vanilla than chocolate, it succeeds in doing so. Probably one of the best red velvet cakes I've had for quite a while.

As this place is more known for their cakes, their coffees doesn't really stand out. The Flat White ($5) here is less milky and tasted slightly burnt (although the milky nearly covered the burnt taste). I don't mind though as I'm here more for the cakes!

If you are around the area looking for something to snack on, this place will certain be a good addition to your list!
