The hype over the locality of this place, an industrial space functioning both as a bike atelier and a cafe at the same time, Wheeler’s Yard is a place where you can get unique bicycles while also having western food items and drinks!

The food menu is rather extensive here.

And the drinks menu! Rather simple.

The Latte ($5) tasted ok with the right amount of milk added. Nothing too great.

The Big Breakfast ($14.90) is served with a wholemeal bread toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrown & garden salad. This is way better than the coffee although not overwhelming as well. The toast was rather nicely toasted and crusty. The scrambled eggs are nice. The bacon is great. The sausages and the hashbrown are average. The garden salad is also not too bad. In overall, this could have been better.

If you live or is around the Balestier area, this place should be considered to have your meal (for its ambience; do not expect too much from the food and drinks)

Belgium waffles! Smile Feb 23, 2014

Kampong Glam has always been a hot hit with people going there to shop, eat or just walk around. Cafes here are quite common as well in the area, such as La Marelle, CAD Cafe, and even the recently opened Elffin & Elffin. Stateland Cafe has become the newest addition to this area. Also operating a online macaroons business called Flag & Sac, this place serves all-day breakfasts, pastas and desserts.

The menu here is rather simple, and reasonably priced.

The coffees here are made using the Terra Firma blends from Papa Palheta. The Macchiato ($3.90) provides a single shot of espresso, which has a slightly acidic and bitter taste.

The Latte ($4.70) tasted strong and firm with the right amount of milk added.

The Belgium Waffles ($10.90) comes with a chocolate ice cream, fresh fruits and Stateland’s waffle sauce. This is possibly one of the best waffles coming from a cafe. Crusty on the outside, soft and moist on the inside, this goes well especially with the chocolate ice cream.

This place is a great place to come to for their coffee and food after some shopping within the area, so if you are around the Kampong Glam area, this should not be missed!

While walking around Haji Lane, me and my friend found this new cafe that looks rather noticeable. We then found out it opened only yesterday and their official launch is on 14th February. Prior to that, they have catered cakes for the Singapore Subway Exhibition last month. Nonetheless, their cakes and drinks menu are up already!

The Americano ($3.50), brewed using the blend from Highlander Coffee, produces a slightly acidic taste which isn’t too overwhelming.

However, the Flat White ($5) didn’t really satisfy. Although the coffee taste is strong, the acidity of the coffee overpowered the taste of the milk added.

The Blueberry Cheesecake ($6.50) is rich in both flavour and taste. The cheese is indulging, and the layer of blueberry on top is great too.

The Chocolate Fudge Cake ($6.50) is great as well. Flavourful and chocolatey, it is also very firm.

If you are walking around Haji Lane, this is a great place to stop by and have a cup of coffee and cake. Do be here during their official launch on 14th February!

Reminiscence the past Smile Jan 17, 2014

For the full review and more photos, please visit http://makanarts.com/2014/01/17/da-zhong-cafe-block-105-hougang-ave-1-hainanese-village-centre/

Ever thought how does the coffee shops and hawker centres produces coffee at affordable prices? It is via the old and traditional method of brewing coffee and filtering it through the “socks”, attached to the flasks. As most places has already switched to using steel flasks, Da Zhong Cafe continue to use brass flasks.

The Kopi-O ($0.60) is excellent as it tasted strong and bitter (the traditional way). Great kopi at a cheap price, this is definitely one of the better ones out there.

The Steamed Bread with Kaya & Butter ($1) is also something to order. Usually not sold elsewhere nowadays, the steamed bread was soft and fluffy with excessive kaya & butter. Thumbs up for this as well!

With such traditional kopi sellers being a banishing trade, it is great to order a cup of kopi and a slice of bread to relieve memories if you are around the Kovan area.

Chocolate souffle tart! Smile Jan 17, 2014

After having my coffee at Cozy Corner Coffee, I went to The Audacious Cakery. Opened a year ago, they specialise in not only cakes and tarts, but also cupcakes, macaroons and certain savory bakes.

The Chocolate Souffle Tart ($6.80) is initially shown to be off the shelves but luckily they still had a few left in the kitchen (goes to show how famous these tarts are). Have it warmed up. It also comes with a layer of nuts on top. The chocolate tastes rich and even more with every bite. It is invigorating to have especially since it complements well with the souffle.

You can see how the chocolate is oozing out of the souffle!

If you are around Everton Park, consider coming to this place for its good selection of great tasting bakes!
