Tucked in the corner of the second level of City Plaza is Arnold's Fried Chicken. It is possibly one of the most crowded spot in the entire building, especially during dinner time. Arnold's Fried Chicken is the Singapore version of KFC, only way better.

The fried chicken is prepared immediately after you place your order. This ensures that you will not be left with stale, cold and tough chicken. The marinate is average, I did not find it especially tasty. I love how even the breast meat is juicy and tender.

Arnold's serves the thicker type of straight cut fries which have the perfect crispy exterior that makes them so addictive.

It is nice that they still serve those fried buns with each chicken set. They are a rare treat nowadays with lesser Western stalls serving them. Anyway, not many of those stalls make them like Arnold's. Arnold's fried buns are exactly like fried mantous, only that the bun is softer and fluffier.

We ordered 2 sets of  the 2 person combo meal ($23.70) and it was more than enough for 5. Becareful not to over order.

Crazy for wanton mee Smile Jun 19, 2014

Ho Kee Pau shouldn't foreign to Singaporeans. This fairly old establishment has 14 franchise outlets all over the island. I'm not a fan of their franchise outlets mainly because I don't find their paus or dim sums amazing. The underrated item that Ho Kee serves is wanton mee (dumpling noodles).

The humble bowl of wanton noodles comes with a generous portion of char siew (roasted meat) and it costs just $3.50. More importantly, the char siew is nicely marinated and well cooked so that you won't feel that you're biting on stone. I absolutely love their noodles. It is the typical kind of wanton mee noodles, slightly translucent and not too yellow (unlike the pontian wanton mee noodles). After sitting in the sauce for a while, the noodles will absorb that goodness and become oh so glorious. The noodles are springy and have a really good bite to it (yes even after the soy sauce bath they had).
Every bowl of noodles comes with a small serving of dumpling soup. Honestly, I could easily eaten 20 of those dumplings. They are small (sits nicely on the spoon) but good. The skin of these little babies is so thin and delicate but definitely not soggy. Within the skin of each dumpling, there is a sweet and juicy ball of meat accompanied with a crystal prawn.

Dakkgalbi hype OK Jun 13, 2014

I chanced upon Yoogane as my dinner partner and I were roaming around the restuarants at the second level. We decided to join the queue as it was moving pretty quickily but unfortunately, it turned stagnant when we were the next to enter. We stood in the queue for at least another 1/2 hour before we were ushered into the resturant.

We ordered chicken galbi with chukkumi octopus (1 pax - $19.90++, min order: 2 pax) and a plate of rice with seaweed ($3.90++).

We were taken aback when the dish came as the portions were very small. In total, there were only 4 pieces of chukkumi octopus and around 5 complete pieces of dokk (the servers will proceed to cut them into bite size pieces). Without the additional rice, we would have still be hungry. Diners with big appetites please be prepared to get some more food after your meal.

The standard of the food was pretty decent. The chukkumi octopus was fresh and very chewy, while the chicken was tender (but not juicy). Everything was coated in the specialty hot pepper sauce so this dish had no depth in flavours. I tried making scorched rice (frying the rice till it becomes crispy) but the servers kept interrupting my attempts so sadly, I couldn't have my crispy scorched rice.

Overall, I think the dakkgalbi at Yoogane worth a try. But I don't think I'll return because the portions are too small for the amount of money paid.

The most underrated waffles ever  Smile Jun 12, 2014

Visit my website for the full review: http://cherieyeo.blogspot.com

Maple and Market gained a fair amount of hype when it opened a year ago. I've been a pretty loyal fan of the place as their prices are reasonable for pretty darn good cakes. Also, their location is perfect; a 5 minute walk away from Old Airport hawker center. This makes it so easy to grab some desert after a hearty meal.

A couple months back, the team at Maple and Market revamped their menu and I am so glad that my favourite bakery is now serving waffles!

For now, M&M serves Mixed Fruits and Caramelised Banana Waffles. Both priced at $9 each.

I've been disappointed with the supposedly "fantastic" waffles served at other famous cafes. Often, these cafes overcook their waffles and the result is a hard piece of biscuit. They would try to save the dish by jazzing up the waffles with some eye catching toppings but hey, we all taste with our mouths not our eyes.

I'm glad to say that M&M did not let me down. They make one of the better (or maybe even best) waffle dishes in the whole cafe scene. I absolutely love how the exterior cracks open to reveal the steamy fluffy cooked waffle within. On the whole, the texture of the waffle is crispy and at the same time chewy. I ordered my waffles with caramelised bananas and walnuts and it's heavenly. The sweet bananas and nutty walnuts gives so much flavour to the plain waffle. Glaze a piece of waffle with the caramel sauce and layer it a banana and walnut. That my friends, is the taste of waffle heaven. The only complain that I have is that the caramel sauce is slightly too sweet.

This waffle dish will not get you 100+ likes on instagram but it will certainly make your stomach very happy.

Reasonably good food  OK Aug 17, 2013

Truffle Fries
One of the better truffle fries in town. I could actually taste the truffle oil in the fries but of course, it could be stronger. Fries were nice and fresh. I also love that they served the fries with truffle mayo. A must try.

Waffles with ice cream and fresh fruits
So delicious. The smell of buttermilk was there and the waffles are crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. I felt that they should have been more generous with the fruits (cmon, they are not that expensive!).

Magic
The cafe says that it is a winning ratio of coffee to milk and I completely agree. With every sip, you will first taste warm milk and then, the taste of coffee will kick in. One of the more interesting kind of coffee in town.

I didn't get to try their mains this time round but I will be back soon. The only downside of this place is that it's slightly on the pricy side and the tables are placed really near to each other so no private conversations can be held.
