Having read some good reviews from foodies, I decided to try the Ayam Buah Keluak from O'nya Sayang at Tampines Mall.

After I paid S$11.10 for this take-away, while waiting for my order, I went across to another shop to get some items.

I should have check the content of my take-away Ayam Buah Keluak. Since its packed nicely, I just took off.

What I see is not what I get. madmadmad

After transferring the food content from the plastic container to the bowl, I realized that there were many bits of tiny chicken meat given for this order. From the look of it I can easily foretell that its the leftover from the pot. Moreover there were so little gravy to go along with the Buak Keluak.

Lucky for the restaurant to dispose of the food but unfortunate for me on the receiving side.

Moreover, the Buah Keluak are not wholesome but halves in sizes.

huffyhuffyhuffyhuffyhuffy

Its an insult to your customer when the restaurant provide leftover food from the pot.

Hopefully its not the balance from someone else's bowl.

I totally lost my appetite.

I called to complain about the food to the supervisor. He did apologized.

Once bitten twice shy, I will never again step into O'nya Sayang and will always check my take-away orders before leaving the restaurant.

Disappointing Gyudon Cry Dec 05, 2013
Categories : Japanese

Yoshinoya well known for their signature beef bowl or Gyudon in Japanese. The secret recipe broth seasoned with savoury herbs and spices together with large sweet onions served on a bowl of fluffy Japanese short grain rice.

These thinly Slices of well marinated beef served in their authentic Japanese rice bowls.

With over 1200 outlets worldwide and being one of the oldest and largest chain of beef bowl restaurant currently established a new outlet at Bedok Mall.

Most of the eateries are due to be opened by this weekend, I opted to for the beef bowl with miso soup and a drink for S$8.70.

The miso soup was bland with a few pieces of seaweed.

Instead of having more vegetables for the beef bowl, I chosed to have more beef slices. Surprisingly the rice was very soft and not fluffy. I could hardly see the sliced onions added to these beef slices.

If I did not ask for more marinade I don’t think I can finish this meal.

A semi cooked egg was added to the beef bowl. To make my dish more palatable I broke the yolk and spread it all over the rice for added flavour.

I had some uninvited guest at my table, there were four houseflies flying around and persistently refused to go away.

I doubt its “Happiness In A Bowl”.

Disappointed Hot Cheng Tng Cry Nov 17, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre | Desserts and Cakes

sad

Each time when I by pass this dessert stall there is always a queue of at least minimum 4 to 5 people.

I decided to order a bowl of dessert.

I wonder what is so special about this stall that was awarded culinary skills.

I wanted to try the Gingko nut longan soup but was not available.

Therefore I opted for a bowl of hot Cheng Tng. I paid S$1.20 for this dessert.

There were a few variety of ingredients in the Cheng Tng such as a slice of sweet potato, red dates, dried longan, white fungus and a few more items.

I did not finish this dessert because it was extremely sweet.

"Cheng" supposingly to be "clear" as what the soup should be wasn't so. Thee was no taste of the longan at all.

I prefer my Cheng Tng to have a lighter texture but Lit Lit Xin Cheng Tng is too dark and I believe they have added too much of Gula Melaka which makes this dessert very very sweet.

The soup is so dark that I cannot even see what's inside the bowl of Cheng Tng.

Luckily, I was the third in the queue and its definitely not worth lining up to place an order.

I believe other Cheng Tng stalls at any foodcourt is even better than theirs.

Having won almost two hundred dollars of NTUC Vouchers from The Hungry Games (1st August until 31st December 2013), organized by Openrice Singapore, I went on a grocery shopping trip at NTUC Fairprice at Tampines Mall utilizing some of these shopping vouchers.

Four Seasons Durian has setup a counter just outside NTUC Fairprice Supermarket.

Impressed by the promotion about the durian pudding transforming into a local dessert delight with Mau Shan Wang durian puree and being an ardent fan for premium durian, I bought two small cups of durian pudding and one cup of mango pudding for desserts.

Mau Shan Wang Durian pudding at S$3.60 per cup and Mango Pudding at S$2.50 per cup.

Mau Shan Wang (Cat Mountain King) best grown durian at the hilltops of Malaysia are supposingly to be have thick rich and creamy flesh tasted like toasted marshmallow. Slightly bitter but with sweet notes. Pungent though but not so overpowering with some sweetness.

The two cups of durian pudding claimed to be made from Mau Shan Wang durian are definitely not true.

Not sure whether these puddings were stored for too long that it has lost the durian fragrant and flavour.

There is also a layer of thick icing on top of each durian pudding cup.

Its practically tasteless.

When the cashier handed me the package, I was wondering why are there no strong durian fragrant.

Looked more like a smooth steam egg custard definitely not durian flavour pudding. At least steam egg custard has the fragrant and richness of the egg flavour.

Mango Pudding is definitely much better pudding with smooth texture and there are some mango taste in the cup.

sad

I will definitely not purchase any more "so claimed" Cat Mountain King durian pudding from Four Seasons Durian.

Polar Special Pie Cry Oct 09, 2013

Categories : Bakery | Halal

Polar Puffs and Cakes started from one café way back in 1926. Definitely has come a long way. This home grown brand has more than thirty outlets throughout the island. They are HACCP accredited and Halal certified.

They claimed that their pies are made from tender chicken chunks with diced button mushrooms and mixed vegetables encased in a flaky pastry and baked to golden perfection.

The Special Pie has now risen to S$3.30 per piece.

Instead of the normal chicken pie currently on promotion, I opted for the Special Pie having the thought that these pies will have more tasty filings.

To my disappointment, when I sliced the big pie into halves, I noticed the filling covered only a fraction of the pie. Ingredients found in the pie are diced carrots, sliced onions, minimal small pieces of chicken meat and green peas.

These ingredients are too mushy just like baby food puree.

Maybe it would be a better deal if I chose the normal chicken pie.
