Xing Yun Kway Chap was previously from Tampines St 21 Coffeeshop.

Until now the standard of the offals prepared by this stall are still good but pricey.

The stall opened only on weekends.

I had to wait for almost half an hour before I placed my order for take-away.

The "kway" made from rice flour are soft in texture similar to kway teow.

The friendly lady boss preparing the food while her husband take a break.

For this plate of kway chap consisted of pork skin, pig big intestines and tow pok including a larger portion of the kway cost S$10.80.

Each item was packed separately and all I had to do was to reheat the sauces for my lunch.

I have specially ordered for additional pig big intestines and the most expensive of all ingredients.

A close-up of all the ingredients. Noticed the braised pig skin was soft and smooth like baby's skin.

The fatty tissues inside these large pork intestines taste better than the smaller ones.

Just yummy!

Old Chang Kee Puffs OK Jan 19, 2014
Categories : Singaporean | Halal

If you are an ardent fan of Old Chang Kee by now you can distinguish the different markings on each of their selected puffs.

Red dot for their sardines puffs
Green dot for Chicken Mushroom
No dot or original are their signature Curry OCosting each at S$1.40.

The ingredients for all puffs are still good except that the standard of the skin for all the puffs have dropped.

Lately, I noticed there are pock marks on almost all of their puffs. Its time to check the quality control of the pastry.

Appreciation Lunch at Saizeriya Smile Jan 12, 2014

OpenRice Singapore hosted an appreciation lunch to OpenRicers who attended the Rice and Shine Project. Bringing joy to the needy with rice contributions at Toa Payoh Community Club on Saturday, January 11, 2014.

OpenRice created a 3m x 3m Rice Mural of their smiley icon using expired rice that has already been coloured and volunteers together with the beneficiaries helped to accomplish the mission.

We had a sumptuous and array of yummy Italian cuisine from Saizeriya at Toa Payoh Central.

From the salad menu, we tasted three choices of fresh vegetables and ingredients for salad.

Salmon Salad – S$5.90 with a combination of iceberg and romaine lettuces, mini tomatoes and fresh big pieces of Norwegian Smoked Salmon.

Pomelo Salad – S$2.90 with freshly pieces of pomelo with balsamic vinegar mixed with extra virigin olive oil and black pepper. I find this salad a bit too sourish maybe a little added sugar would be better off to round out the dressing.

Northern shrimp cocktail salad – S$4.90 the ingredients are similar to the salmon salad with the exception of fresh translucent looking North Land Shrimps.

For savory and inviting Appetizers there were two orders of 8 pieces of Chicken Wings at S$7.90 per plate. The wings were tasty and well marinated prepared from Saizeriya special recipe.

Oven baked Asari Clams at S$3.90. The watery Asari Clams were pretty bland.

Two servings of oven baked Escargots in special garlic sauce which is also the in house No. 1 best seller.

There were generous amounts of rich flavoured garlic in each escargot. Just irresistibly yummy and at an affordable price of S$5.90 for 6 pieces per serving.

8 pieces of Mussels Marinara at S$5.90 cooked in tomato and garlic sauce. The sauce was too watery. It would taste better with thicker sauce and more minced garlic. The mussels were slightly chewy.

From the Steak and Hamburgers Menu, we tried the Beef Stew priced S$5.90.
Tender beef cubes mixed with selected vegetables such as carrots, big onions, celery and corn kernels with a satisfying flavour. This stew would go well with a hot bowl of plain rice.

Dining in an Italiana restaurant without a pizza order is just impossible. Therefore we had a serving of a 9 inch Chicken Curry Pizza priced S$7.90. The pizza has a combination of grilled chicken chunks drizzled with diced red and green bell peppers mixed with curry sauce. Good taste for a great combination.

There was also a plate of of Chicken Doria at S$4.90. The baked rice is cooked with chicken Bolognese and white sauce.

The plate of Paella with rich ingredient of squids, shrimps and mussels cooked with baked rice at affordable price of S$7.90 was the popular dish of the day.

The hallmark of this dish is that special layer of crispy caramelized rice at the bottom of the paellera.

We had four choices of desserts to the perfect ending of a good lunch.

Delicious and tasty Truffle Ice Cream at S$4.90.

A piece of Tiramisu Cake priced S$4.90. This traditional pudding like dessert consisting of a sponge cake dipped in a liquor and layered grated chocolate and rich custard.
The Italian pudding Panna Cotta at S$4.90 which is flavorful taste of egg and milk mixture.
The strawberry ice cream was rich and fruity at $1.90 per scoop.

This is in fact another food tasting and bonding session with new found friends from OpenRice and their Marketing Team.

Wishing the Management and Staff of OpenRice Singapore and fellow OpenRicers are very Happy and Prosperous Foodie Lunar New Year 2014 as we usher the Year of the Horse in less than three weeks time.

Categories : Korean | Restaurant | Korean BBQ

Manbok Chinatown served buffet lunch until 3 pm daily. Experiencing Korean BBQ at a reasonably priced at S$14.00 per person with a pretty good spread of food.

This restaurant is next to Oriental Plaza.

Each table is equipped with a smoke suction device.

If you are a meat lover, you will definitely agreed with me that its indeed value for money.

There is also wide variety of banchan (side dishes) with free flow of drink.

A big pot of Ddukbokki is made available to diners. Having seen repeatedly this dish at various KDrama series, this is my first experience with the dish and I find it tasteless. The not so sticky flour covered with tomato and chilli sauce does not suit my taste bud.

At the meat counter were generous amount of different types of meat. Chicken, beef, pork and the Samgyeopsal (3 layered flesh unmarinated pork. This dish must definitely dipped with ssamjang paste.

We only arrived at this restaurant around 2.10pm and had only about less than an hour for the buffet lunch.

I could only find the squids available from the seafood section. Probably they did not replenish anymore of the seafood dishes past lunch time.

The generous amount of lettuces in a big basket is definitely a good wrap for all the grilled meats.

The service was good. The grilled plates are replaced every 10 minutes ensuring that the customers have a clean grill for different dishes.

The broth for Budaejjigae are topped up regularly without even requesting for it.

I was in such a hurry to complete my lunch that I have forgotten to take a photo of the hot stew.

Lotus Seed Dessert OK Jan 02, 2014
Categories : Desserts and Cakes

Lien Chee Suan has always been one of my favourite dessert.

Currently a bowl of Lien Chee Suan (Lotus Seed dessert) cost S$3.00.

Each time when I visited the Tampines Round Market and Food Centre, I will not fail to pack a bowl of Lotus Seed dessert as take-away.

Its almost impossible to find a good Lotus Seed Dessert these days, either they are too sweet, too bland or too mushy.

Of late, I noticed this stall standard of preparing Lotus Seeds has dropped, the lotus seeds are too soft and the dessert has become very sweet.

The stall closes every Monday and Thursday.

I was quite surprised that I was able to purchase a bowl of Lien Chee Suan around 11am, normally by early morning, this dessert would have been sold out.

If you wish to prepare your own Lotus Seed Dessert, here's my recipe:
