Shang jian bao - my favourite dish. $8.40 for 6 pieces. This is my third visit and their Pan Fried Meat Bun on my must-order since I tried it for the first time. Basically this is a mini pork bun that is pan-fried till half of the bun turned golden brown and the exterior fried to crisp. I really enjoyed the juicy pork fillings that goes with the crispy and yet fluffy bun.

This popiah is what netizen had been raving about and some said it’s one of the best they had. Shanghai Ren Jia uses Chinese Cabbage as the main filling instead of our Singapore version of popiah that is filled with Turnip. The popiah skin is more of less the same as others but the fillings is exceptional. Thick piping hot gravy of braised cabbage with minced meat overflowed into my mouth upon the first bite andddddd I almost got scald. Best if I let it cool down a little before the first bite. $7.20 for 6 pieces.

One of their must-try is the Duck Confit. Many agreed that this is one of the best duck confit (pronounced as “con-fee”) that they had in Singapore. For myself, I love their crackling skin! I am rather satisfied that the duck remained tender despite the crispy exterior.

At $15.00, the portion is reasonably large and it’s good to be shared among four people. It’s sizzled with white truffle oil and seasoned with truffle sea salt and comes with a BBQ sauce and mayonnaise dip. I like Au Chocolat choice of a thick straight-cut instead of a thin one. As such, this fries were fried to a perfect crispness without losing it’s taste.

St. Marc Cafe mainly serve bread, pasty, sandwiches, soft serve and their most popular Chococro and Little Fuji. Their soft serve dessert mainly range from S$6.30 for the little Fuji to S$8.80 for their Choco Banana Split.

Their Little Fuji is a freshly toasted buttery flavor croissant dough with soft serve with caramel sauce. There is always at 5 to 10 minutes of waiting time for this Little Fuji and to collect at the counter when it’s ready. Therefore Little Fuji is always served piping hot and it’s duper crispy.

Their Chococro is also pretty good. By the name Chococro, it actually stands for Chocolate Croissant. Best part about this? When it’s freshly out from the oven, or at the minimum, it’s warm.
Somehow a pastry can’t go too wrong when there is warm molten hazelnut chocolate and warm crispy croissant involved.

smileI think Marutama Ramen is likely a “either you love it or hate it” kind of ramen but i do learnt to appreciate this for it’s unique soup broth and a different style of noodle, and definitely loving the egg.

They serve Hakata-styled Ramen. The taste of the noodle is very distinct. It’s firm in texture and ultra thin and straight. The noodle are boiled very quickly and served.

I always order the spicy version as I prefer the soup to has a stronger taste instead of the original flavor. To be frank, the non spicy version is a little bland for my taste. Adding the fried garlic slices and sesame is strongly recommended to bring out the flavor of their soup.

Hidden Gem in the CBD area Smile Oct 01, 2013

For in-depth and photos, feel free to visit my post:
http://chinchaijiak.wordpress.com/2013/10/01/frenzlink-cafeteria-s2-00-noodles-at-cbd-area/

The thing that particularly caught my eye was the stall signage – $2.00 for all of their noodles. Frenzlink sells items like Wanton Noodle, Minced Pork Noodle, Mee Rebus, Mee Siam, Laksa, Fishball Noodle, Lor Mee and Prawn Noodle.

Their Mee Rebus is one of the best items in Frenzlink. The gravy is smooth and flavorful and not too sweet and comes with a whole hard-boiled egg. Imagine the egg cost $0.50 so i am actually paying $1.50. for the noodle The sauce don’t taste starchy and the smooth sauce coats the noodles without being too thick or watery.
