Found this little cafe called D'zerts Cafe along a stretch of shophouses in Tanah Merah/Simei area. It was slightly drizzling on a Saturday afternoon and probably that's why I was the only customer when I arrived. The rain later stopped and there were more customers. However it wasn't overcrowded and hence I enjoyed a quiet nice afternoon.

The Matcha Latte Cake ($4.50, below) was really good.. the matcha taste was strong and solid.. It's a perfect cake for me as it is actually a mousse cake. Hence the matcha taste was not overwhelming and the texture is light. loved how the chef topped it with a strawberry which made the cake perfect as the strawberry's sweetness balanced the matcha taste.

The Passionfruit Tart ($4.90, below) was overly sweet for me.. Best for the super-sweet tooth..

The Yuzu Green Tea Cheesecake ($5.50, below) was very soft and creamy. Could taste a bit of green tea and yuzu which gave the cheesecake a slight citrus taste. Quite an interesting combination and I loved it a lot. But I also wondered how it would taste if there was more yuzu and green tea in it?

With plenty of power plug points and free wifi, plus a quiet environment, this makes a perfect place if you want to do some studying, get some work done or just chilling out with your ipad/laptop. If you live, work or study nearby, this cafe's worth a visit!

Tasty pasta but warm environment Smile Aug 02, 2013

Kith Cafe is an extremely popular cafe located in Park Mall. There was a long queue of people waiting in the sun to get in on Saturday noon. I also noted there was never an empty table throughout the time we were there. The cafe offers an alfresco dining area, as well as a indoor air-conditioned area. We managed to get the indoor high rised tables by the window, which was pretty cool and cosy.

Apart from the normal standard menu, Kith Cafe has a daily specials menu.

We didn't have to wait very long for our food to arrive, and the staff was attentive to our needs, which was impressive given the large crowd they had to handle.

The King Prawn Linguine ($22, below) was yummilicious! They were quite generous with the prawns. it's slightly spicy but it was flavorful. However, my friend thought it was a bit salty.

The Crab linguine ($22, below) doesn't look appetizing at first sight but oh my, it was so tasty that I almost licked off my plate. The creamy and cheesy sauce complemented well with the shreds of crab meat.

I observed most people ordered the Big Breakfast ($16.50, below). There were actually bacon, sausage and sautéed mushrooms underneath the huge sunny side up. The sausage was delicious though a little salty.

IMO, Kith cafe would be a great place to hang out on a cooler day. Because there was an alfresco area, the door was kept open so as to facilitate the waiters' movement. Hence, the indoor area was still a bit warm even though it's air-conditioned.

There are five ramens to choose from:
- Arashi Genkotsu Ramen, which is their signature tonkotsu ramen and best seller
- Arashi Genkotsu Sio Ramen, with a sea salt white broth
- Arashi Genkotsu Miso Ramen
- Arashi Genkotsu Barikara Ramen, which includes chilli paste
- Arashi Toripaitan Ramen, a chicken soup base ramen

There is also a wide range of condiments available, including a pot of chilli chives.

The signature Arashi Genkotsu Ramen ($12.90) lived up to its reputation as the best seller. The tonkotsu broth was very tasty and flavorful, and the noodles were springy. The thinly cut char siew slices were sweet and tender. However, the egg was not the runny soft boiled type. It would have been perfect if they gave the soft boiled version instead. Was a bit disappointed when the waitress said they can't change the hard boiled egg to soft boiled and I could only get it as an additional topping that costs $1.50 more.

On the other hand, the Arashi Genkotsu Miso Ramen ($12.90) had quite an average and less flavorful soup base.

Overall, I would definitely return again for the yummilicious signature Arashi Genkotsu Ramen.

Korean crispy chicken Smile Aug 02, 2013

Categories : Korean | Restaurant | Korean Fried Chicken

The menu allows you to choose either ala carte or combo set. We went for the small combo set ($14.90) which comprises of 6 wings and 2 drumsticks. You need to choose which flavor : soy garlic or hot. You can also mix the flavors for medium and large sets. We chose hot flavor. We were famished (it was close to 9pm).. but luckily we didn't have to bang our tables to demand our food to be served immediately.. That's because within like 2 minutes after we made our order, the delicious fried chicken arrived. We were quite amazed at the serving speed. And we were grinning like happy kids after we bite into the chicken..

The moist fried crunchy skin that cracked in my mouth. My craving was instantly fixed as I chewed on the skin which was coated with flavorful sweet spicy sauce. It's definitely different from KFC. It was not overly oily. We loved the wings more than the drumstick. The drumstick meat was bland and dry. Overall, i think the wings and drumlets, not the drumsticks, were the highlight.

We also ordered a seafood tofu kimchi soup ($8.80). Based on menu description, it was supposed to contain squid, prawn. However, I only managed to find a miserable piece of prawn meat, not even a full prawn. There were a lot of tofus and kimchi instead. I was wondering if they made a mistake in serving the wrong soup.

Delish cakes in the heartlands Smile Aug 02, 2013

Categories : French | Bakery

Unpretentiously located in the Hougang heartlands, it is a hidden gem as it offers value-for-money cakes that rival the quality of those found in cafes of up-class shopping malls.

Ispahan ($5.80):
Layers of rose bavarian cream and raspberry mousse with a lychee gelee middle and lychee fruit. So dainty-looking. The light rose cream melted in my mouth naturally.. The lovely scent and taste of rose was accentuated by the sweet/sour raspberry mousse. The lychee gelee was a refreshing surprise in the middle of the cake. And it was topped with something like caramelized bits but they tasted of rose. It was a beautiful experience. My favorite from Ciel Patisserie!

Strawberry shortcake ($5.60):
Lightly sweetened whipped cream and strawberries. The sponge was airy and the strawberries were fresh. But my favorite version is still the one from Canele.

Fuji ($5.20):
A light green tea mousse complimented with a lychee gelee insert and a soft green tea sponge base. A creative and cute cake designed by Ciel Patisserie..Loved the green tea mousse which was soft and melts in the mouth. The sweet-bitterness of green tea was balanced by the refreshing lychee gelee in the core of the mountain. Also my favorite!

Scarlet ($5.60):
Ciel Patisserie's rendition of cheesecake. There was a red fruit gelee in the centre. This was really creamy.. I am not a big fan of cheesecakes, but I think all cheesecake lovers should give it a try because every bite delivered a strong cheese taste.
