I have always seen a queue forming at Ibake thus one day after church I joined the queue as well. First impression was beautiful looking bread but service seriously needed a lot of improvement!!!
I ordered a bacon and potato foccacia ($2.80), 1 americano ($5) and a bread basket ($8) that consist of 6 mini version of the breads. One of them that I like the most is French Stick with Milk Cream as it has is sweet tasting cream that goes with well with the bread. However most of the mini size bread are rather hard thus maybe will be better to order the normal size bread. As for the americano, it was rather mediocre. Perhaps other drinks might fair better.

Recommended Dish(es):  French Stick with Milk Cream

Located just a stone throw away from Buona Vista MRT, I have passed Owl cafe many times but never have a chance to go in untill I went there to catch up with my friend over some beverages. We ordered calamansi freeze($4.90) and Ice Gula Melaka Teh ($5). Personally I find that calamansi freeze is similiar to concentrated lime juice blended with ice thus it was very sweet and taste rather mediocre. Ice gula melaka teh was rather interesting, similiar to normal teh (milk tea) but with a twist. The gula melaka aroma and taste was rather strong. However it also means it was rather sweet. Thus we ordered a glass of water for $0.30.
Overall although I did not try any food here, I don't think I would give it another try as the service here seriously in need of huge improvement and the beverages are not really good. However I do feel that they have very nice deco especially the hanging light bulbs from the ceilings. Do note that GST & service charge is applicable!

Spending per head: Approximately $6

Located at boat quay, Tom Yum Kungfu is very accessible via public transport or even if you drive. Beside having thai steamboat, they also serve a huge varieties of thai cruisine. On top of that, the renovation here will brought you back to the 70s with all the posters and also the vintage deco.
We ordered a thai steamboat (mookata) set from the menu at $38 with fish paste ($9). The fish paste was rather ordinary in my opinion. However best of all is the thai chilli that come free when you dine at this eatery. It is slightly sour but has a well balanced flavour of spiciness as well. On top of that, unlike many thai steamboat place, they are still using charcoal and also the price tagged along is also very affordable.
Do give it a try if you are around the area.

Recommended Dish(es):  Mookata and the thai chilli

Brekkie Platter

Brekkie Platter

Located just a few units away from Forty hands, Poteato is also having unceasing flow of customers. I was there on one of the night but left as it was really packed. Thus we went back during one of the weekends for brunch.
Although the reno here is simple but leaving you feeling at home and comfortable.
We ordered Breakkie Platter ($17), the hash brown was definitely better than Mac and the sauteed vegetables were also very tasty. However the scrambled eggs were a little bit bland and the sausages have a very strong porky pig smell.
We also ordered All American ($16). This is da bomb! The bacon was cooked till crispy and fragrant and the mushroom was flavourful. On top of that, potatoes were really yummy and the sunny side up was cooked to perfection (in my context is runny yolk and cooked whites). So I recommend this for brunch selection. If you are a small eater, you might like to consider 2 to share as well.
Last but not least, we ordered a pot of tea to share. Love the beautiful tea pot set and I feel it actually made the brunch experience a better one!
Overall the food here has its miss and hit. However for the service tendered, I would say it is really worth going back again. Hopefully they will expand soon so as to have more seatings available. By the way, there is no service charge or GST here.

Cheap and good udon Smile Nov 23, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Noodles

If golden mile is little thailand and joo chiat is little vietnam, Liang Court must be little Japan. Located here is a big melting pot of Japanese food and stuff. One of the Japanese eatery that I would highly recommended here is Tamoya.
This is a no frill eatery that serves only handmade udon and some tempura. However do note that the queue here is seriously unceasing.
I ordered regular Curry udon ($8.50), 1 ebi tempura ($2.50) while my friend ordered regular beef Bukkake Udon ($10.80). Curry udon is just dry Udon with curry. HOwever the udon is very springy(qq) thus making it a very hearty meal. I would recommend the bukkake udon instead as it's udon with Soya sauce based soup. I prefer this better. Personally I think the udon taste better with soup. As for the tempura, I feel it's very worth ordering as the prawn was fresh and the tempura batter is crispy.
