Fika is a social institution in Sweden; it means having a coffee with one’s colleagues, friends, date, or family. When we got wind of Fika Café, we knew we had to give it a shot. How often do we come across a Swedish café (No, IKEA’s not counted) that is halal? It located right at the junction of Beach road and Arab street, a place that is popular with Middle Eastern tourists and Persian carpet merchants in the Kampong Glam area, it naturally made sense. We ordered Kopparberg Pear Cider ($7.90), Korvstroganoff ($17.90), Mushroom and leek pasta ($15.90) + Additional Meatballs ($7.50), Meatballs ($19.50), Mushroom crepe ($15.90) and Apple crumble ($9.90). Fika – it’s Scandinavian cooking that’s simple but homely and hearty – and we loved it. Meatballs are a must try! Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.

Located along the shophouses just opposite the popular Zion road Food Centre, Indochili brings traditional and home-style authentic Indonesian cuisine to Singapore.Dark wooden timber dominates the interior; the tables, counter, partition and outdoor alfresco dining deck – all built with dark timber, a typical Javanese decor element. We ordered Frape Choco S$7.80 / Avocado juice S$6.80,Tahu Telor S$8.80,Cah Kangkung S$8.80,Rendang Sapi (Beef) S$9.80,Combo Bakarak S$42.80 and Es Delima (Thai red ruby). Our verdict – Indochili is definitely a good spot to enjoy sumptuous and authentic Indonesian cuisine. If we had to recommend a good Indonesian restaurant, we are pretty sure Indochili would be on the list! Tahu Telor and Rendang Sapi are a must try! sQue – pronounced as ‘skew’ – a rotisserie and alehouse located along the Singapore River. The promenade has seen much evolution, constantly reinventing itself to keep pace with modern Singapore, so the new menu introduced here seemed to be a pretty great opportunity to revisit both the river and the restaurant to see what’s been up lately! sQue serves an array of rotisserie dishes including grilled meat, salads, burgers, pastas and a huge selection of lagers, beers and lambics. We like the abundance of choice here! sQue is definitely a great place for chilling out with friends while enjoying a glass of cold beer with an excellent variety of food - ideal for large groups with finicky taste buds. Set against the backdrop of the vibrant Singapore River, the friendly staff and great service here added up to an all-round pleasant experience. Tuna steak S$25+ and sQue Platter S$98+ Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.

Wan He Lou occupies one of the shophouses in Jalan Besar area, an air conditioned restaurant with a simple, homely and comforting setting. The popular lobster porridge was the main reason for our visit to Wan He Lou Chinese Restaurant. Overall, Wan He Lou offers good Chinese cuisine at an affordable price. The lobster porridge, crispy lotus with salted eggs, Green Dragron fried with dried shrimp or sambal, Pan Fried Kurobuta Pork and vegetable juice are not to be missed. At Wan He Lou, it's not just the food that is praiseworthy, it's also the innovation found in many of the dishes that keep us coming back. Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.

The setting is simple, with cement flooring and a dash of chocolaty colour on the wall that outlines the trademark of their signature chocolate cake. We ordered Awfully Chocolate Milk ($8.00),Super Stacked Chocolate cake ($7.90),Chocolate Mille Crepe ($9.00),Katong Jelly ($8.00),Truffle Fries ($12.00),Fish and Chips ($18.00),Poulet a ala crème ($22.00),Laksa Tagliatelle ($20.00),Pan seared pork belly ($22.00) On the whole, we felt that Awfully Chocolate still does best at its chocolate products and pastries. While their mains did not taste bad, the dishes were lacklustre and very much just average tasting and over price! For the same price, we could’ve had better quality and quantity food at some of the restaurants at Dempsey. Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.
