Japanese bento with 'surprises' OK Nov 27, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese

Teriyaki Chicken - $12.50

Beef Gobo - $12.50

The meat portion was generous! In fact, we didnt finish the rice, coz eating the side dishes and the meat alone were filling and definitely satisfying enuff! What's more, there was matching vegetables to go with the meat. So much variety, so much "surprises" in a meal.

"Surprises" as there were items that we cant make out what was it. Other than the peas side dish, the other two, we had no idea what they were. They were skinned tomato and grape ( the reddish balls alike) which were soaked in some liquid substance. The other side dish ~ some shredded veggie ( the only thing we knew coz it didnt taste like meat at all) which was totally nothing that we had eaten before... They were pleasant surprises though.. keke

Beside the rice set which comes with side dishes, they also have udon, salad, burgers and many more.. You bet I will be here again! ^_^

Dessert time!  OK Nov 27, 2013
Categories : Singaporean | Bakery | Café | Desserts and Cakes

Being girls, we tend to be irrational when ordering desserts. Anything that seemed pretty enough was worthy of our order! Well, nevermind that we had just have dinner. Nevermind that we were always complaining of putting on weights. Ah ha!

1-Caramel "Assiette"

The desserts were so tempting, just reading the descriptions alone! We simply cant decided on what to order, and so we ordered the platter, which comes in different sizes:

Selection of 3 petite desserts - $16
Selection of 4 petite desserts - $20
Selection of 5 petite desserts - $24

Particularly like the Frozen 'deconstructed' Strawberry Shortcake. Adored the presentation, the creamy strawberry icecream and sponge cubes! On its own, it is priced at $14, which probably should be a bigger portion compared to the one in the assortment. Not too sure though, please ask the service staff to confirm!

Home made icecream - $5 each

We ordered classic chocolate as well as strawberry and yuzu icecream, which came with lotza berries. I like! I particularly liked the yuzu icecream, which was a hot fav among us. Kenak whacked clean within minutes. Keke.

Yuzu is pomolo flavour, which is quite rare in western desserts. You can find yuzu sorbet in Sushi Tei as well though. It tends to be more sour compared to the creamier flavour, but refreshing.

The cafe is no longer at Dobhy Ghaut, so do patronize the other outlet instead!

Long Beach Seafood Restaurant  OK Nov 27, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Seafood | Zi Char

Out with family for a crabby feast!

Bamboo Clams

This was one of my favourite dish. I like anything with rubbery texture, such as abalone & squid.

This dish looked simple with just some sauce and chopped garlic, but it tasted heavenly. The garlic definitely played a major role in bringing out the aroma, and yet covering any "fishy" smell of the seafood. I dun like to eat garlic, but dishes cooked with garlic are good! You should try it!

Chilli Crab with fried Man Tuo 馒头

White Pepper Crab

There were 7 of us, so we ordered 2 crabs cooked in different style. The Chilli Crab was a must order. I particularly adored the gravy even though I dun take spicy food. The eggs in the gravy sure helped to mellow the spiciness a bit, so that I just need to gulp down one glass of iced water instead of one jug. Hahaha..

One thing I like about Long Beach crabs ~ They were super meaty! And I love to eat the fried Man Tuo 馒头 with the gravy. Yummy!

On the contrary, the White Pepper Crab was quite blend. It was recommended by the waiter lor! Humpt, bad recommendation. I should have ordered crab with century egg!

Fatboy's OK Nov 26, 2013

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Restaurant | Burgers and Sandwiches

Country Fried Steak - $15

Oh well, we decided to go "adventurous" and ordered this. A mistake I would say. It was a total wastage of the steak. It was dry and tasted nothing like beef steak. In fact, it was such a chore to chew the steak and so I passed it on to my bf to finish the food. Oh poor boy.. *Sigh*

Brownie Bites Ala Mode - $7

Again, this was not fantastic. The brownie seemed a bit dry, not to my liking.

Sigh, nothing tasted good so far. Serves us right for not ordering their "specialties", which obviously is their burgers. Hey, people dun call them "The Burger Bar" for nothing, okay? So if you are going there, try the burgers first before anything else. I cant promise you the burgers will turn out fantastic since I have not tried them myself. But if I oreadi told you their other stuff not so nice, and then you are there, and there's nothing else on the menu except for the burgers, what else do you order? Of coz, the burgers lah!

Back to old school OK Nov 26, 2013
Categories : Indian | Malay | Peranakan / Nonya | Singaporean Chinese | Singaporean Western

This place reminded me so much of old school days with the chalkboard, wooden furniture and old fashion ceiling fans. Very familiar ambiance indeed.

There wasnt a lot of variety offered, just the simple canteen food that we had when we were younger. Hey little choices means there is no need to crack your brain, deciding what to have! Simplicity is a blessing itself.

Nasi Lemak - $6.80

My nasi lemak served with fried rice. >.<

Sobz, because the rice was sold out, so I got to replace it with fried rice lor... @#$%

Everything on the plate was pretty normal, not particularly tasty which was definitely doing injustice to the price. I dunno, maybe the chilli was superb good? I dun take chilli, so I decided that the chilli must be good. Otherwise, why so many suckers paid $6.80 for a normal nasi lemak?? The famous nasi lemak at Changi Village is only selling at $4 for similar sides mah =p

Mee Siam - $4.50

Mee siam was alright, at least not too spicy for non-spicy eaters like us. Then again, it may not be shiok enuff for ppl who take spicy food. Hmm.. ask for more chilli then!

Chendol - $3

Another simple fare with no misses and of coz, no surprises as well. *Shrugged*
