The Coffee Daily OK Nov 19, 2014

I really like the retro setting in TCD. Coffee places with a theme is worth visiting.

You can appreciate the efforts to piece everything together from the traditional red/blue/white chair to the small little old radio.

Nostalgic biscuits (Free flow) - compliments of TCD

We bought the breakfast sets which came with coffee/tea. Alternatively, you can top up the difference to select your choice of drinks, like us.

Regular Set: Roasted Chicken Slices and Cheese + Americano ($12)

My order! I liked that the green salad came with cranberries and sweet tomato. The chicken was nicely roasted with toasted ciabatta. A simple yet satisfying plate.

Premium Set: Smoked Salmon with Scrambled Eggs + Americano ($16.50)

Hubby's order. On the contrary, the salmon sandwich was just passable, with a very thin slice of salmon. Nai, I'm not a fan of smoked salmon anyway. But I really think my order was more worthwhile. Keke

Somewhere over the Rainbow ($10)

Whoever invented rainbow cake is a genius. It's just a normal butter cake with 7 colourings but we gals will just go goo goo over it. Well, I'm not exception.

And hor, it looked so pretty in picture and any food that looks good must order lah. There's no question about it. *Affirmation nod* =p

Bloomsbury Bakers OK Nov 19, 2014

Chanced upon Bloomsbury Bakers when I was searching for food places near Boon Keng. Since I was alone for lunch, I decided to go and check out this quaint little cafe in the midst of HDB blocks and industrial estate.

Anyway, the cafe was not too hard to find, very near to the bendemeer market. It just that if I had not known the cafe beforehand, I would probably not expect one in this area, kind of out of place?

Red Velvet Cake - $5

I dunno how you choose which item to buy when faced with a wide selection of pretty cakes and tarts. But for me, I will choose one that seems to be more popular, i.e. item which seems to sell out faster lor. Keke

And so red velvet cake, it shall be!

I really like the red velvet cake here which had more cake and less cream cheese. It was also moist and soft, unlike some other places which made me gasping for water if I ate the cake too fast. The coconut shaving is optional but I thought it added extra flavour to the otherwise similar taste. Anyway it was so good that I accidentally finished it, and ended up I cant finish my duck rice which was suppose to be my lunch. Keke

The Marshmallow Tree OK Nov 19, 2014
Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

Mashmallow Tree is a cafe situated below a HDB block, conveniently located just across the road from Telok Blangah MRT. It's really much smaller than I thought. Overall, a nice cozy place with a vintage touch.

I wanted to come here for dinner, only to realise that they only serve desserts and cakes. Well, who say we cant have dessert first followed by dinner? =p

Waffles with ice-cream, which also came with mashmallow pop (toasted mashmallow)

Whenever I go for a barbecue session, mashmallow is a must buy item! I love to toast my mashmallow such that it becomes crispy golden on the outside and soft & sticky inside. Many times the mashmallow will melt inside before the outside get toasted enough to achieve the golden brown skin. Not easy to make and so it's pretty exciting for me to know there's a cafe that sell "ready to eat" toasted mashmallow. But hor, I think here, the mash mallow were not toasted enough for my liking. Waffles were pretty norm too.

Smores

The name attracted me and so I made an other for it.

Essentially, this was just toasted mashmallow sandwiched between 2 pieces of biscuits, topped with whipped cream and colourful sprinkles. A very simple "dish" that can be DIY yourself easily. Not really worth it, if you ask me for my opinion. Somemore, the biscuits a bit "la hong". =(

I lost my receipt and couldnt comment much on the pricing. Overall, dessert here was just too normal for me to revisit. Ok, where is the next dessert place to try?? =p

Strictly Pancakes OK Nov 19, 2014
Categories : Café | Brunch

Our first time here, so we ordered 1 savory pancake and 1 sweet one.

Chicken A La King - $13

Chunky chicken with sweet onions cooked to perfection and topped with cream sauce.

Definitely Fit for a King.

What a funny name.

The chicken breast was really nice, although a tad tough. I particularly adored the cream sauce that complemented the chicken as well as the pancakes! As you can tell from the pictures, the chicken breast wasnt enough to go with 3 pancakes. Dun fret, we were given maple sauce as well as butter (choose from salted, unsalted, garlic + herb, rum + raisin).

Tiramisu ($12)

Kahlua infused mascarphone cheese on chocolate pancake with vanilla ice cream.

Again, a 3 thick and fluffy pancake stack!

Dunno about the other sweet pancake, but I thought Tiramisu was a tad boring. The chocolate pancakes tasted really passable, and mascarpone cheese was too little! I thought tiramisu should have layers of cheese in between the chocolate pancake to give that flavourful texture.

Anyway, we saw other diners ordering the garlic buttered prawn savoury pancake and we thought it smelt so good..... and yup, we returned the next day for lunch!

Garlic Buttered Prawn ($14)

Medium stack served with garlic buttered prawn generously with garlic and cherry tomato salad

The garlic sauce was really a killer. I never like soggy pancakes or waffles, but the garlic sauce was different. I literally soaked my pancake with it, wishing we were given more sauce. =p

But hor, because the sauce was very rich and aromatic, please do not attempt to eat it on your own. First, you will smell of garlic and probably wont be too nice if you intend to kiss your bf/gf later. Second, it was a bit too jer-lat. No wonder, we were given a choice to downsize from 3 to 2 pancakes (comes with a $1 deduction).

If you dont like any of the creations in the menu, you can also create your own personal style from the pancake stack, butter to the side orders. =)

Weekday Hi Tea @ Lawry's OK Nov 19, 2014

Categories : Western Variety | Restaurant | Steaks and Grills

English Hi Tea!

At S$15++, each headcount can order 1 sweet item and 1 savoury item plus a beverage (coffee/tea/soft drink/juice). Since there was 3 of us, we get to try out 3 different type of savouries and sweets each.

Savories

Cheese & Egg Mayonnaise Finger Sandwich with Salad

Prime Rib Yorkshire Roll Up

Bruchetta topped with Roasted Chicken with Tomato Salsa Sauce

We ordered these three as they appeared to be the more filling type amongst the choices available. My favourite is the prime rib yorkshire roll up, which is beef tiny cubes in egg wrap.

Sweets

Strawberry English Trifle

Brown Bread Pudding with Haagen Dazs Ice Cream

Sweet of the Day: Chocolate Mousse

Pretty decent desserts!
