Lola's Cafe Smile Nov 19, 2014

Feeling hungry? I promise you, the food tasted as good as the pictures!

Our orders:

Bangers & Mash - $8

Fish 'n' Chip - $15

Chocolate Tart with Seasalt - $5

Lola's cafe is easily one of my favourite hang out place since I've moved to the northeast region. Food is decently priced and satisfying. Although people I know complains about difficulties in getting a seat here, we have been quite lucky so far. =)

Tea Lounge @ Regent Hotel Smile Nov 19, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Hotel | Vegetarian | High Tea | Buffet

I was craving for a high tea buffet and ended up in an impromptu visit to Tea Lounge. The price was a 'mental barrier' to overcome, and I sort of hypnotized myself that the price was totally justifiable as an afternoon tea buffet simply means 3 in 1 aka 3 meals taken together! And yes, I shamelessly stayed till to the end with a bursting tummy. =p

The moment I stepped in, I was so excited! The place looked posh and the desserts strategically placed at the entrance were so colorful & appealing! And I was most regretful that I didnt have my camera with me, which explained the poor quality photos. Urgh.... >.<

It was a 'fantasy land' filled with macaroon, pralines, cakes, waffles, pancakes, ice-cream, fondue! I was so tempted by the desserts that I simply ignored the sequence and just ate the sweets between savories. =p

Well if you are not a sweet tooth person, there's plentiful of savories items as well!

Local Delights: Laksa & Kueh Pie Tee

The buffet also includes 2 choices of tea, coffee or chocolate. Not bad right?

I had a good time stuffing myself silly here. Although the price is not an everyday affair, it's a good place for occasionally pamper time. So go on, pamper yourself. You deserve it! =)

Kombi Rocks Smile Nov 19, 2014

It felt like 'back to the past' when you step into this unassuming place. Tables & chairs are just randomly pieced together. Walls are painted with old pictures, badges and retro guitars. Cabinets filled up with vintage toys and obviously mini cars. Definitely a photo worthy place!

We ordered Beef Horfun ($8.50) but was given Seafood Horfun ($6.50). We thought the price was the same so didnt highlight it to the staff. Only when I was checking the pricing for the seafood horfun for this post, then I realised the price difference was $2! *Palm face*

The horfun was nice but comparable to those zichar stall at your neighbour coffeeshops, which will be cheaper. Here, you pay a premium for the vintage atmosphere and slightly better ingredients? The prawns were definitely bigger and fresher than those used in zichar stall.

The Mee Goreng($8.60) WAS GOOD! MUST ORDER!

If I am to revisit Kombi Rocks, this is the ONLY reason. When everyone else is ordering the same dish, you just follow suit and you will not go wrong. Yup, even non-spicy eater like myself adore this dish.

It was tasty and accompanied with generous serving of crunchy vege, fresh prawns and fishcakes. We polished the plate in just a few minutes? It was that good. Keke

搵到食 126 Eating House Smile Nov 19, 2014

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Dim Sum

This is one of my favourite dim sum shop, which offers a whole lot of dim sum varieties. I have not known any other places that has comparable number of varieties. If there's ample parking place, we would have visit it more often. Having said that, the dim sum shop is always packed with customers, especially during the lunch/dinner hours. My suggestion is to go there during the off-peak timing to avoid the crowds.

砂煲鲍贝粥 - $6

脆皮竽泥 - $3.50

扣肉包 - $3.50

Some hits and misses, which probably also depends on individual's liking, so I shall just list out my favourite items!

The claypot clam porridge was super nice and tasty, with generous serving of clam (at least 8 or 9 pieces), which was perfect for two to share.

I also liked the toasted bread with taro fillings. It reminded me of similar taiwan snack, which was taro filling sandwiched between two butter biscuits. If you order this, eat it when it is still hot so that the toast will be crispy.

The pork belly bun was another hit . The pork belly had a good proportion of the meat and fats, which leave you yearning for more without feeling greasy/guilty. The skin was surprisingly thin and tasted like the char siew bun skin.

Pricing was also pocket friendly. Usually we spent less than $40 for 2 pax, with a very satisfying tummy. =)

Teppei Japanese Restaurant Smile Nov 19, 2014

I've heard ravings about barachirashi at Teppei, and finally got an opportunity to try this out with a friend!

We were not working on a weekday noon, so we went there at about 11.30am ( lunch starts at 12pm), thinking that early bird will get the worm. *Palm face* There was already a long queue, and we thought we were being kiasu to be there half an hour earlier? Dubz... Why the office staff can spend time queuing when lunch is supposed to be just an hour? I also want to go work in their company. =_="

Thank goodness, we managed to get in for the first seating. In fact, we were the last 2 to go in. Really heng lor.. The place is very small, with just counter seats around the chefs' working area. I did a mental calculation, the restaurant probably can only accommodate 20 odds patrons at one time? Good luck if you intend to come in big group.

We were given free flow of side dishes while the chef prepared our chirashi. I particularly liked the stewed meat + radish which was good enough to be a dish on its own. The ingredients totally soaked up the sweet sauce so well, give me a bowl of rice!! Hee hee

Finally, our little bowl of seafood goodness came. The bowl was smaller than other places but com'on it was only $17.60!!! Where to find so cheap chirashi? If you think they cut corners and serve you substandard seafood, no lor... salmon, tuna, scallop, roe were all so fresh and sweet.
