Gals (& maybe guys?), do you like cakes & desserts & flowers and a photo bomb venue? If the answer is yes, you should try the Vintage High Tea at House!

Be ready, as I bombed you with many many photos! Keke

Although food were limited to mini pizza, sandwiches, puffs and cakes, they were definitely filling enough. Even my husband had his fill, and we cant stomach any dinner after this. That's the great part of hi-tea ~ settle your lunch and dinner in a meal! All the above for just $25++!

There were lots of cakes and tarts to choose from, definitely a heaven for the sweet tooth. It was also very thoughtful that most items came in small portion, which allows diner to try out more varities.

The not so good part is that this Vintage high tea is only available on Thursday and Friday, 3pm - 530pm. No problem for those still schooling ( it's okay to skip a lecture or two ma.. =p) but those working, probably can only do "pretend tai tai life" with the "sacrifice" of a half day leave.

Visit http://fun-hideout.blogspot.sg/2013/11/house-at-dempsey.html for more photos! ♥ ♥ ♥

Food Tasting: Ramen Isshi Smile Dec 18, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Ramen

Ramen Isshi is conveniently located at One Raffles Place, next to Raffles Place MRT. In fact, I have been going to ORP for lunch, but have never known its existence as it is located at the far end on the 4th floor. After reading this post, do make an effort to visit Ramen Isshi ok?

The restaurant is chi-na decorated and for a moment. I thought I had walked into a Chinese restaurant. As explained by our host, Nick Yen, this is a true blue authentic Japanese cuisine restaurant with element of Chinese influence. What makes it even special is that the noodles, baos and gyozas are all freshly made in their own kitchen to ensure freshness and quality. Enuff said, let's tuck in!10 course lunch, felt so pampered! =)

Started the lunch with Lemon Yellow Juice which is a concoction of soursop & pineapple. A very refreshing shot to clear our palate.

Tofu with Century Egg - $8

Soft and smooth tofu with chinese sesame oil rather than the usual japanese sesame sauce.

Carrot Cake with Saffron - $8

This is definitely very different from the usual squarish carrot cake; similar ingredients are reconstructed to add new life to this dish. Instead of wheat flour, japanese rich flour is used and so it tasted almost like savory mochi with carrots bits and the oh-so-familiar xo sauce.

Chicken Wings Fritto - $6

Fried chicken mid wings. sliced into halves to make it easier to eat, soaked in soya sauce. Unanimously agreed a finger linking good side dish!

Tuna Sashimi & Avocado Salad Asian Style - $12

We were suppose to wrap the egg yolk, tuna sashimi and avocado with the seaweed and dip with the sesame sauce. But beware of the tiny red bits, they are sezhuan pepper!

Homemade Kua Bao in Assorted Flavours - $8

There are 6 flavours namely tumeric (dark yellow), beetroot (red), macha (green), prune (yellow), sesame (black) and original (white). The colour/flavour will be decided by the chef to add a surprise element for the diners. But hor, the original ones a bit plain lah so must dip with the peking duck sauce.

Finally, our main course!

Tonkotsu Shiro Ramen - $12

Tonkotsu Kuro Ramen - $13

Tonkotsu Aka Ramen - $13

All the ramen soup based are pork based, with slight variation to cater to the different preference. I personally like the original pork based (Shiro) which was favorable yet light. For those who prefer a stronger taste, Kuro, with added sesame oil, shallot and garlic may be more suitable.

Aka came with added seafood broth with a spicy kick. Too spicy for my liking, but the seafood broth was very distinct which reminded me of the prawn soup.

To make us even more happy =p, we were also served fruit flavoured makgeolli. Strawberry Makgeolli

Pineapple Makgeolli

We adored the Makgeolli and the host generously offered us another serving, this time round, pineapple. But I still prefer the strawberry one la...keke

Almond Jelly with Framboise - $5

Layers of almond, raspberry and passionfruit to complete our sumptuous lunch!Lunch special is offered here, which includes ramen + free flow of salad bar. This is really a good idea, especially for ladies who like to have a balanced meal. Ramen Isshi also provides delivery and currently they have this promotion which includes the container, warmer bag and of course ramen at S$25!

Birthday Treat - Absinthe Smile Nov 29, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : French | Seafood

Since it was our first time at Absinthe, we wanted to try more items and opted for the set dinner, priced at $88 each pax. If you browse through the menu, it will be apparent that the set is more worthwhile as the ala carte items are rather expensive.

The place itself is really cozy, with a choice of the quieter indoor setting or the alfresco dining along Singapore River.

Saint Jacques

Hokkaido Scallops Carpaccio, Hazelnut, Fava Beans and Soy-Argan Oil Dressing

Next, we had the Hokkaido scallops. The scallops were sliced so thinly that I cant really taste the natural sweetness of a scallop. But I've to admit this was an interesting dish ~ the dressing itself overpowered the scallops, in a nice way of course. And the nuts & beans added on a crunchy touch. Very intriguing indeed.

Homard

1/2 Boston Lobster, Seaweed Butter and Angel Hairs with Ikura - $32 (Additional Order)

We ordered an extra entree for sharing and we loved this one! The lobster was so succulent and there was so much meat. The pasta was cooked with the right hardness, topped off with salmon roes. We almost squealed in delight. Definitely a must order for me in my next visit!

Bisque

Traditional Lobster Bisque

More lobster, anyone? ^_^

The soup was smooth and super flavourful. I though it was slightly too thick ('gao') for me. Nevertheless, we still polished the bowl clean.

Foie Gras Poêlé

Pan Fried Foie Gras, Morello Cherries and Blinis

I'm not a foie gras person but I thought this was quite okay. The foie gras came with a small slice of pancake & sweet berries sauce. Portion was neat although I can only manage half of it; hubby finished everything including my other half portion. Keke

Cabillaud

Roasted Black Cod, Prawn Risotto and Kaffir Lime Leaf Emulsion

By now, we were really full and it was good that the risotto came in spoonfuls portion. The risotto was lovely, creamy with bite size prawns. Cod fish, on the hand, was a tad saltish but still good.

Pore Iberique

Seared Iberico Pore "Presa" Pommery Mustard and Ragu of Brussels Sprouts

We were told that this was pork, but we thought it tasted like beef ~ sweet & tender. Yummy!

Pêche

Stewed Seasonal Peaches with Crumble and Peach Sorbet

Somewhat unusual dessert. The peach fruit was warm, but without the fruit sweetness, which was nicely complemented by the peach sorbet.

Overall, it was a lavish meal that we enjoyed very much with the ambiance, service and food. Definitely a place to consider for anniversaries, birthdays or when you feel rich and wanna pamper yourself with a good meal. (^.^)V

L'Entrecote OK Nov 29, 2014

Homemade Duck Foie Gras Terrine - $19

A super big piece of duck foie gras was given, which made the presentation not so pleasant. Taste wise, I find it salty and too 'fishy' for my liking. We didnt finish it, and we noticed that the table beside us also didnt finish the foie gras.

Entrecote Steak & Walnuts Green Salad - $29

Additional legendary sauce/ walnuts green salad at $5.

The green salad with the additional walnuts was a nice starter before we indulged ourselves in lotza meat! Oh yeah, the most appealing part of having dinner here to me is ~ both the fries and beef are refillable. Great news for big eaters huh?

Taste wise, pretty mediocre and I dun quite understand what's so great about the "legendary" sauce that people actually need to top up $5 for additional sauce, while it's free to top up the beef. Doesn't sound logical to me. The beef itself came in 4 doneness - raw, medium raw, medium done & well done. Yes, there were dinners beside me who took the 'raw' option.. felt weird to me.

Overall, it was a rather passable meal with little variety. Probably a better choice for those who merely just wan the quantity. *Shrugged*

A hidden gem in the neighbour area, a nice cosy place right beside Fat Cats. =)

Waffle with Cheesecake Icecream (ice cream of your choice) - $8.50

We just had a heavy dinner so anything else was plain 'jerlat' to us, but the waffle with ice cream was such delightful that we ended up polishing off everything on the plate. Particularly liked the unique cheesecake icecream flavour compared to the rest of the flavours, which includes vanilla, chocolate, salted caramel etc. Overall, this is one of the rare places that offers good waffle (in my opinion)!
