Batter Fluffy Flaps OK Nov 29, 2014

Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

I came to know of this cute pancake place in one of the magazines, probably Iweekly. And if you are thinking, it's just another dessert place then you are wrong! They serve savories pancakes as well, and who says that we cannot take pancake to replace your normal mains?

Spicy Chicken Midwings

Vanilla Milkshake

Green Tea Matcha Cream

We ordered the BFF Special which consists of 2 pancakes, 2 drinks and a side. For the side, we ordered the chicken wings, which were crispy and finger licking good. And hor, not spicy at all! Good for us! haha

Breakfast Mambo Combo

This really looked like big breakfast with bacon, picnic ham, sausages and poached eggs, pretty standard. The pancakes were fluffy alright. Dun really like the eggs coz got hollandarise sauce, may appeal to other but not us coz we are no fan of egg benedict lah.

Mushroom & Tiger Prawns

Who will imagine that pancake can pair with savories? The tiger prawns were big and succulent and the portobello mushroom was juicy with 'char da' cheese sprinkled on top.Thumbs up for this.

All these for just $39, no separate GST or service charge! Really worth it!

Restaurant Week : Chef D Table OK Nov 29, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Restaurant

(1) & (2) Appetizer:

The cauliflower soup (soup of the day) was really bland. I almost wanted to poke my tongue with the fork to see whether the taste bud is still alive mah. And I also dunno what were the orange and green oil for? It appeared to be a messy painting to me, and it didnt help to bring up the scores for neither the taste nor the presentation.

Smoked duck & orange salad (additional cost of $6) was okay although there was over dosage of olive oil or something oily. The smoked duck was also different from what I had at other places, instead they were crispy thin slices, tasted just like bacon crisps with the same saltiness.

(3) & (4) Main course:

Similarly, the dory fillet was tasteless in a plate of starchy broth, which supposed to be lobster broth. Humpt, felt so cheated.. I had 'deserted' my love aka beef because of the lobster broth! I kinda regret not choosing the beef which most of the other reviewers had praises for it.

Pork belly was nicer, although the portion was just 2 pathetic slices. But just as well, since it was not so healthy to eat so much fatty meat. =p

Dessert

Thankfully, dessert was still good. We had the triple chocolate mousse and the lychee panna cotta (dessert of the day). The chocolate mousse was very rich while the panna cotta was creamy & smooth. Overall, quite good but it would be better if the chef can opt for sweeter fruits. The strawberries were so sour! >.<

Restaurant Week: Taratata Bistrot OK Nov 29, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : French | Restaurant

I was attracted to the good ravings from the reviews for Taratata Bistrot, and so decided to try out this french restaurant. Indeed, the moment we walked in, we felt right at home ~ greeted by friendly staff and a soothing atmosphere. Although I must admitted that the background 'music' (sound like Scotland windpipe) was rather annoying. LOL Although the menu appeared to be the usual, but hey, it's harder to impress with normal fare right? So if they do, then they must be good!

(1) Appetizer

I luv luv the escargots! Usually, I will order half a dozen to share. This was probably the first time I got to eat half a dozen myself! Very generous indeed. The escargots were simmered in aromatic garlic herb sauce.. yummy! I even dipped the complimentary bread with the sauce. Keke

(2) & (3) Main Course

The pork trotter was crackling good, crispy on the outer, although the meat itself could be a tad dry but still manageable. Similarly, the salmon skin was grilled with a nice crispiness, paired with mussel with creamy sauce and asparagus.

(4) Dessert

A good meal was never complete without a good dessert! Do you like pear? If the answer is yes, then you will like the dessert here. ^_^

The dessert was really innovative - Chocolate layered with pears to even out the sweetness and pear sorbet to freshen up your palate.

Overall, the food was lovely. To add on, the service was commendable, with the serving staff greeting you with a broad smile and always checking on you.

Antoinette OK Nov 29, 2014

Categories : French | High Tea | Desserts and Cakes | Brunch

The dessert display were enough to entice you to enter this sweet cozy place! ^_^

As we already had lunch, we decided to try the cakes and save the savories for the next visit. And yes, in case you belong to the rare species who dun fancy sweet stuff, Antoinette offers breakfast, pasta & burgers.

Antoinette's Hot Chocolate - $6.50

This was kinda 'disastrous', imagine lukewarm melted dark chocolate. It was too concentrated to enjoy it as a cup of hot chocolate, tasted more like a chocolate sauce. Hmm, where are the churros? The fortunate part? The rest of the items that we ordered was a pleasure.

Caramel Creme - $9

In comparison with the hot chocolate, the tea seemed more pleasant ~ light and fragrance. Tasted better with a tad of sugar.

Saint Honor L/Amour - $8.50

It was love at first sight! It looked so pretty among the others that I just had to order, not knowing what it was. Adored the fresh pink cream with a hint of rose fragrance coupled with the shortbread which made this sweet little thing a delight yet refreshing dessert. I had never tasted anything like this before, call me a swa ku (mountain turtle), but I definitely enjoyed this.

Strawberry Shortcake - $8

I always have a soft spot for strawberry shortcake even though it seems very simple. Sometimes, you just need simple thing to make yourself happy. Keke

Here, the strawberry shortcake is basically light sponge cake nested on top on 4 big & sweet strawberries, which sort of formed the base, and again fresh cream on top. I actually preferred strawberry shortcake compared to chocolate cake and the strawberry shortcake here tasted good, almost as good as those I had in Japan. =)

Ramen Bar Suzuki OK Nov 29, 2014
Categories : Japanese | Ramen

A pretty small ramen place, so be prepared to queue up during lunch time and it's definitely not a place for chit chat since the place is rather cramp! Do try to come earlier if you are coming with a big group. Dun say I never "warn" you!

We had to give our orders and made payment at the cashier located near the entrance before the staff led us to the table. I liked that I can choose from the tonkotsu broth (in red, black and white) to the hardness of the ramen. A lot of flexibility indeed!

Ramen wise, I think it was pretty decent, though I will prefer the meat slices to be thicker. To "make up" the petty portion of the meat, they offered free-flow of green tea, hard boiled eggs, bean sprouts and mash potato. We all love free things, dont we? Keke
