Churros cravings? OK Dec 17, 2013
Categories : Spanish | Bars/Lounges | Churros | Desserts and Cakes

I ate Churros first time when I went London last year. It was really love at first sight.... Oops, I meant love at first bite! Keke

Can you imagine my excitement when I found out that I could have it in Singapore as well! Thank goodness, we can find almost cuisine from all over the world here. I'm glad I'm staying in Singapore... keke

Without much delay... Let me have the honour to direct you to this humble snack shop selling Churros, conveniently located at Clarke Quay => ALEGRO.

Well, it is really humble coz it is more like a snack bar than a cafe/restuarant. There is only a couple of high chairs and tables for dine-in. Anyway, the food are serve in disposable cups and plates, so I guess it doesnt really matter. You can just ta bao and eat along the way...

Strawberry & Lemon Freeze

Beside the normal soft drinks, they sell freeze here. We had strawberry & lemon freeze, obviously you will know which is which via the colour. One word to describle => SOUR. Haha.. Well, they did the trick to perk you up!

Egg & Potato Omelette

I think there's a special name for this dish but I cant recall, so I just named it based on the ingredients. Hehe.. It's a simple dish, yet so good... Then again, I'm quite a potato person, I love all kind of potato food from potato chips to french fries to wedges to mash potato etc..

The dish was served cold. The one that I ate at London was served warm. Perhaps Alegro cut the omelette into smaller pieces, hence it cooled down faster? It was okay only.. hmm.. I still prefer the one in London.

The next highlight is of coz, Churros! That's precisely why I was there at Alegro!

Churros with chocolate sauce

Alegro served the Churros in small pieces, nice gesture as it would be easier to eat. But then hor, the chocolate so little!!!! If you wanna more, you have to pay for "additional" chocolate lor.

Teadot OK Dec 17, 2013
Categories : Singaporean | Café | Brunch | Kids-Friendly

We came here for desserts after our dinner at Tampines 1.

Wild Jackfruit

The price was $2.80 because apparently there was a promotion to purchase the cakes at a cheaper rate when you ordered a regular drink. I cant remember the actual pricing, but should be more or less of the same price range as other coffee places.

The cake was jackfruit cheesecake. Unique but too thick for continuing pleasure. Haha

After a few spoonful, I kinda dun really enjoyed the cake anymore. The jackfruit aroma was too overwhelming that it totally tasted like jackfruit rather than a well blended cheesecake.

So yup, once bitten twice shy. =p

Matcha Latte

A all time favourite "safe" drink.

Perfect Match

This was supposed to have a tinge of strawberry, but it tasted too much like normal milk tea. I had to "specifically" trace for it, if there was any....

Conclusion?

TeaDot is just another after-dinner hang around places. Nothing seriously wrong, and nothing impressive either.

Teppanyaki anyone? OK Dec 17, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant

Customers would sit around the teppanyaki table ( if ya dunno what I meant, just go foodcourt see lah!) wearing little orange aprons so that customers will be stain-free. Put aside how ridiculous we looked with the aprons on, isnt it thoughtful of the resturant owner? =)

Garlic Fried Rice!

Yup! I fall in love with this when I first ate it at Sakae Teppanyaki, simply delicious! I think it's nice on its own, even without any other dishes to go with. It was even true here because I couldnt finish my bowl of rice as we kinda ordered too much... so I suggest to share 1 bowl between 2 pax just to have a taste of it... ^_^

Sliced beef in teriyaki sauce

This was not too bad, but best if consumed while steaming hot.

Tiger Prawns in processing...

The completed product!

Oh, definitely my favourite! It was amazing how the chef was able to shell the prawns using his "tools", and he did that with such skills! He even pan fried the prawn heads, even though I was not too sure whether we were suppose to eat the prawn heads as well or simply an act to allow the chef to display his performance further..

Assorted Mushrooms

We sort of regretted ordering this as well, coz our teriyaki beef came with mushrooms. Wasted $$$

So next time you come here to dine, strategize your order! Dun anyhow order like me and ended up wasting food and money... Keke.. I misplaced the receipt, but I remember the bill amounted to roughly $60+. The price came with the usual free flow of green tea, towel, dessert and charges.

And do please remember to make a reservation, coz even though it is ulu, you will be surprised that take up rate is kinda high... ^_^

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi

I chanced upon Ootoya, because in comparison with the other Japanese restaurants at Orchard Central, it seemed to be more fairly priced for normal income people like me.

The food menu comes with lotza pretty photographs that you are simply spolit for choices, dunno what to choose! And ya for big eater, they also give free top-up of rice... Really cool!

Our orders:

Side dish including mushrooms, prawns and lotus root

Grilled fish

Charcoal Grilled Pork

Traditional cafe  OK Dec 12, 2013
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Restaurant

The minute I walked in, it was as if I was transported back to the past, in the 60s, 70s... The place is really retro, ranging from the wall pictures, furniture and the utensils used. Kinda cool hor?

Mixture of Chicken & Sausage Claypot

We ordered 1 big claypot rice for sharing among 3 adult and 1 kid. There is this option to have a mixture claypot ( 2 in 1 pot) rice with a top up. Good for those who wanna try the different varieties.

A close up of the "topping"

Chinese sausage, chicken and mushroom basically..

Food wise, I dun find it fantastic. In fact, over-rated with a higher price. Each claypot rice is priced at $10+ or more, which we can probably get the same standard kind of claypot rice at hawker centre with lower cost.

The rice was not exactly fragrant, and the topping was considered little for that portion of rice. I'm not someone who dun take oily food, but it was oily without the fragrance.. so having a small bowl was enough..
