BBQ Meat! Smile Nov 27, 2013

The place is rather small, with simple setup. They do have alfresco dining, which in short, sit outside with no air con lah... Keke.

They have ala carte selection as well as set menu. Being the first time there, we decided to go for the set menu, which is already a handful to choose from.

Beef Stew

Ooo.. I love this! The meat, the potato and the carrot all tasted sweet and soft. It was soooo good, I tell you! They simply fell apart in the mouth, revealing a sweet taste that teased you for more.

Shitake Mushroom

I love the mushroom, which came in nice sweet sauce. But do note that you dun want to overdose the mushroom with the sweet sauce. I did that on my second visit, and the mushroom became too sweet.. -_-"

Egg Soup

Just a simple bowl of egg soup, which contained seaweed, egg and bean sprouts for 2 to share.

Wagyu Beef (Extra order)

Tenderloin

The beef was of coz good! With minimal seasoning, the beef was naturally sweet and tender

Overall, it was a good and satisfying meal. Price wise, it is about $40 - $50 per pax (with no extra order). Slightly on the higher end, but it's just a premium for a more comfortable eating environment. Least the table are big enuff to display all the items and the ventilation is fairly okay ~ you dun stink so much as compared to other grill places.

Hippo Themed Cafe Smile Nov 26, 2013

From the decor to the menu and even the wet tissue packaging are all Hippos! So cute!

Squid Sticks - $8.90

Ooh.. I liked this! It dun tasted like the normal calamari, instead the texture tasted like chicken meat! How amazing. The chewiness sure got our jaws warmed up to prepare for the rest of the dishes. The next plus point ~ it came with nacho dipping! ^_^

French Onion Soup - $8.90

I heard from a friend that french onion soup is good and it was a pity that I didn't try it when I was in Paris. So I was quite "determined" to try it someday and it was a pleasant surprise to find the dish in the menu here.

I need to stress that I dun fancy onions at all, and yet I find this dish delightful. The "floating" pastry will absorb all the goodness of the soup like a sponge. What's more, there was melted cheese on top which was definitely a plus point. The soup was light and sweet, a good way to warm your stomach before the main dish. Must try for both onion and non onion eater!

Grilled Chicken with Ratatouille

The chicken was surprisingly tender, even though it was breast meat. Side dishes wise, ratatouille was something uncommon, basically made up of different vegetables and tasted a tad sour.

"Ivory & Ebony"

Nice name for brownie & ice cream huh? =)

This was great for sharing, especially when the stomach was already quite full.

The usual brownie usually comes in bigger portion with just 1 scoop of ice cream. I kinda preferred the presentation here, with a mouth-size portion ( ok, maybe a few mouthful) accompanied with a comparable scoop on it. The nuts on it added on a crunchy texture. Nice one.

This was so so adorable, with the polka dot cup & saucer plus the little flower marshmallows. Taste wise, chocolate drink tasted chocolate, so what else to say? But the presentation definitely added points to it.

A surprisingly good meal!  Smile Nov 03, 2013

Finding the location was a challenge because the entrance was really not outstanding! We were looking out for a typical restaurant, you know, big glass panels that allow you to see the tables & chairs to suggest that it is a restaurant. Here, there is only broad brown door with a subtle name label on the side. We would have missed this restaurant walking down craig road if we had not known of the address through Restaurant Week.

The setting here is consistent with its restaurant front, a warm down-to-earth brown/black unpretentious scheme that almost seem a bit too uninteresting. Though, the good and friendly service by the staff did make us felt at home.

Out of the 3 course dinner, my favourite was the dessert (although the appetizer and the main were good too!)...

French Toast with Sabayon & Vanilla Icecream

The bitter taste of the rum sabayon (the yellow creamy sauce) was complemented by the sweetness of the french toast & vanilla icecream. A very flavorful combination with added twist of the popcorn bits. We finished it anyway even though we just had a staple food (risotto)!

Waffle with Cheesecake Icecream (ice cream of your choice) - $8.50

We just had a heavy dinner so anything else was plain 'jerlat' to us, but the waffle with ice cream was such delightful that we ended up polishing off everything on the plate. Particularly liked the unique cheesecake icecream flavour compared to the rest of the flavours, which includes vanilla, chocolate, salted caramel etc. Overall, this is one of the rare places that offers good waffle (in my opinion)!
