Timbre - a place to wind down Smile Dec 22, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Bars/Lounges | Pasta | Burgers and Sandwiches

Bar was still bar, so even though Timbre served food, the choices were limited to pasta, pizza and tapas. But again, the tapas & pizza that we had ordered were decently good.

Service was fairly good except there were times when we had difficulties getting their attention as we were seated at the far corner. This was forgivable as it dun seemed to be intentionally & it was really crowded. The waitress that served our table was really friendly & helpful. Thumbs up for her!

Lychee Freeze ( Happy Hour - HH charge $10)

I highly recommended this drink for all gals! It was sweet & served with a big lychee, & you hardly taste any volka even though it was one of the ingredients. But hor, if you are a hard-core drinker, then this might not suits you wor....

Tuttu (HH = $11)

I ordered another drink before the happy hour ended, which was either 9pm or 930pm, I cant really remember... Again, this appeared to be a lady drink with ingredients like baileys and strawberry. To me, it tasted a tad like cough syrup even though the waitress had said that it tasted like thick yogurt, not really my liking though....

Thin Crusted Pizzas

I must say their pizzas were really yummy, with "exotic" varieties such as roasted duck and of coz the family favourite such as Hawaiian. The pizzas were all thinly crusted and sliced in small square pieces. Hence Ladies, you wouldn't need to worry about the extra pounds of eating the crust nor feel un-lady "struggling" with those normal big triangular pieces. Very thoughtful indeed!

Try the half & half, if you cant decide which pizza to get from the long listing. Simply order 2 flavors at the same time and be served with just 1 pizza! Varieties without ordering too much, again a neat gesture!

Tapas

I tried their grilled prawns as well..... MmmMmm was the word. The prawns were big & sumptuous, lightly marinated with garlic, licking good! A must-try!

Cheap & good food! Smile Dec 17, 2013

I find the concept of Aston super similiar to Botak Jones. But then again, it outshines Botak Jones by targetting not just the commoners with their affordable ranges, but also catering to those who can pay more for better choices! That's explain the different namings: Astons Espress, Astons Specialities & Astons Prime, in the order of increasing price ranges.

I've visited both Astons Express and Astons Prime. The former indeed offers value-for-money while the latter offers more premium food such as Waygu beef etc. Obviously, you have to pay more for the premium food lah.

Cream of Mushroom

Crispy Fried Fish with Potato & House Salad

Prime Ribeye Steak with Mashed Potato & Fries

GST is already included in the pricing and there is not 10% service charge, so it's merely $21.90 for all these! I'm a happy gal, since I dun need to pay a lot for reasonably good food!

Notice that I mentioned "reasonably" good food. Of coz, you cant compare the quality with upscale western resturants. And you have to "tahan" eating at a non-air conditioned kopitiam. But still, I think it's better than Botak Jones and probably compared to those mid-range resturants.

I especially like their cream of mushroom, with the generous serving of mushrooms. The fried fish was crispy on the outside, and soft in the inside. I will definitely order this next time! The ribeye was passable only, as the meat was rather hard to tear apart, and eating this required a little "effort". =p

Mulligan Smile Dec 17, 2013

Categories : Irish | Bars/Lounges | Live Sports Broadcast

The place is decorated in a country manner, with beer barrels as tables and accompanying high chairs. There is also a gigantic TV to broadcast sports like soccer, tennis etc.

And if you are thinking, how do I eat sitting on the high chairs?? Dun worry lah, there's also dining area for you to sit back and enjoy the yummy food!

Beer Battered Fish & Chips

I have eaten beer battered Fish & Chips in some places, but I think Mulligan's is the most honest one! Why? Because the batter really tasted like beer!

Most places just state it in the menu, but really taste like normal batter, which leave me wondering anything wrong with my taste bud. At least for now, I know I have perfectly fine taste bud! Hurray!! Keke

The batter was really good - crispy and nicely favoured with beer without overdoing it. Amazing part was that the fish meat remained soft inside. And the dish was completed with everyone's favourite - Fat french fries!

Sausage Platter

Pork Sausages

Both sauasages plates were quite similar, but I prefered the sausage platter coz there was more variety. Eating too much pork sausages is kinda boring. Both dishes are definitely great for sharing with friends - that was what we did!

Ribeye with mushrooms

This was a little bit on the pricy side, compared to the rest of the items. But definitely worth every cents of the price! It was agreed by all that it was really good. I ordered it to be served medium rare ( my favourite!) but there was no "bloody scene". Instead, the meat juice was well contained, which helped to preserve the sweetness of the beef. Thumbs up!

Do come here for drinks and their live band too!

PS Cafe Smile Dec 17, 2013

I like the ambiance, the staff are friendly and helpful and most importantly, I love the food and the desserts!

Portobello Mushroom Soup

I'm sure they use 100% real ingredients here... They must have blended a lot of mushrooms to come up with this. It feels almost like eating mushroom rather than drinking mushroom soup! Haha..

It was good but it was too thick for me to drink a lot, but my bf liked and he finished it. And hor, drink the soup while it is still hot, coz it wont be nice if the soup is cold and lumpy ( coz thick mah).

Chicken Rossa

This was a simple pasta with mushroom, chicken and cheese... But, it was so YUMMY! The chef was generous with the ingredients, lotza chicken and mushroom to go with the penne in every spoonful.

Double Chocolate Cake

This is a MUST-TRY! "Awfully chocolate" ( erm, dun think there is copy right for using this term right? =p) and absolutely sinful!

The chocolate cake is warm & moist, the chocolate sauce is thick & dark, and the icecream is sweet & milky. They complement each other perfectly! ^_^

Weekday Hi Tea Smile Dec 17, 2013
Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Hotel | High Tea | Buffet

Rose Veranda offers a classy ambience with comfortable armchairs and a less crowdy setting, yet with a reasonable spread. It offers more of hi tea spread with a choice of 120 teas. Definitely great for gals gathering, whereby you can chit chat over cups of tea with nice savories and desserts. You can just eat leisurely (Weekday Hi Tea from 11.30 - 6pm) without the need to "choke" yourself with food.

The spread:

Sashimi & Sushi

Chicken with Mango

I kind of like this dish, the chicken was tender and it was cooked with my favourite food => Mango!

Seafood in Creamy Sauce

This was another great dish. The prawns, squids and big mussels totally soaked up the creamy sauce, without being too overwhelming. Really nice.

Spanish Quinch

One of my fav here.. Really like the crust, baked to perfection!

******

How can we miss out desserts? I loved to go buffet, hi-tea during xmas seasons because that's when the dessert spread looks especially pretty with all the xmas-y log cakes and tarts.. Hee

Brownies, Log Cakes, Chocolate Cake

Chocolate Fondue

Nonya Kuek
