My favourite ramen place!  Smile Dec 12, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Ramen

Shiromaru Tamago - $17

The original receipe tonkotsu served with thin noddles, Ros chashu (Pork Loin), cabbage, kikurage & Spring onion
( $15 if without the flavoured egg)

This was ordered by my bf. Since I only tried a few mouthful, I shall not comment too much. Overall, I think it was good, even though I prefered my choice - Seasonal Ramen. ^_^

The ramen were all served in big bowls, so the price is really worthwhile. We were really full after finishing the ramen plus the soup lor.. And definitely satisfactory.

Seasonal Ramen ~ Kyusyu Miso Tonkutsu - $17

Ippudo original pork broth with blended miso, mild in taste. Cabbage, japanese leek, spring onion, pork belly, pork loin, flavoured half egg

This was recommended by a friend who I bumped into at Mardarin Gallery. She just finished her meal at Ippudo and recommended me to try the seasonal ramen.

Frankly speaking, I'm not too sure what it means by "Seasonal Ramen"...

~ Is it seasonal as in the period, i.e. you probably get different ramen variety at different period, depending what ingredient is available in the season?

~ Or it's just a name for that particular ramen?

Hmm... dunno leh....*Shaked head vigourously*

The soup base was much sweeter than the other ramen that I had tried before. I loved it so much, I finished every single drop!

The noodles was springy, cooked to perfection. As for the egg, I think Marutama's still hold the crown.

On the right: Rare Cheese Cake
On the left: Cherry Blossom Ice

Well, even though we were really full, there was always space for desserts!

The desserts variety is not a lot, but we decided to order for the more unique ones, based on the names.

The cheese cake was not the typical Amercian rich cheese style, nor the Japanese fluffy sponge type. Instead, it was very light and tasted almost like tofu, just that it was sweet. The cherry blossom icecream was refreshing, tasted a bit like strawberry ice-cream.

One of my fav dim sum place Smile Dec 12, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese | Hotel | Dim Sum | Seafood

Inside Royal Place

The place is not exactly big, but it's comfortable. I particularly like its posh setting in its blue and white simplicity. This is definitely a contrast to the traditional dim sum Chinese restaurants which are usually in red and probably come with dragons pillars.

You cant find rowdiness, as everyone dine in class here. Again, something different from traditional Chinese restaurants where waiters shout to the kitchen, or customers chatting away over the little small things, sometimes a tad too loud. It's totally a different ambiance, so it's all up to your own preference.

Century Egg Porridge - $5

The porridge was the typical Cantonese style, thick and rich with so much sweetness that I was suspecting that the chef had secretly threw in rock sugar! Haha

At $5, the portion was generous, probably sufficient to share with 2 or 3 pax. Well, you dun want to miss out other goodies by stuffing your stomach with porridge, rite?

Barbequed Pork Puffs - $5.60 ( 4pcs)

Before I go on, most of the dim sums come in 3 pcs. Then again, you can just tell the staff that you need more to suit your group size and you will be charge accordingly. In my case, we had 4 pax, so by doing so, we dun have to order 2 plates of 3 pcs. Thumbs up for the flexibility.

Ok, back to the food!

The puff was soft and flaky, which easily broke apart when you bite into it, revealing the sweet cha siew. Nice one!

Barbequed Pork Buns - $4.80 ( 4pcs)

I'm a sucker for Cha Siew Bao aka barbequed pork buns! I especially like the bao itself, which was really soft and came with a tad of sweetness. Totally a different story from the factory-made bao sold at the kopitiam. If it is not that filling, I probably finish one basket myself... hehe

Custard Bun - $5.60 ( 4 pcs)

This is a must-order if you adore custard bun. The custard was mixed with salty egg yolk, which helped to heighten the flavour. Different from the custard bun I tried elsewhere, and definitely a pleasant surprise. Even my bf who is not a fan of custard bun, said that it was quite good.

Restaurant Week: Fordham & Grand Smile Nov 29, 2014

Categories : Bars/Lounges

Salmon Tartar

Appetizer was beautiful. The salmon was firm and plentiful. It was almost as good as a main course itself.

Green Pea Risotto

Even though it says green pea risotto, it didn't taste anything like green pea although the idea of having green coloured rice was rather refreshing. The zucchini was fried crispy with slight tinge of natural sweetness from the vegetable. Surprisingly, I was pretty satisfied with my main course, even with no meat in sight Something different from my usual fare, and likely to be more healthy! Keke

French Toast with Sabayon & Vanilla Icecream

We really loved the dessert, in fact, my favourite dish among the 3! The bitter taste of the rum sabayon (the yellow creamy sauce) was complemented by the sweetness of the french toast & vanilla icecream. A very flavorful combination with added twist of the popcorn bits. We finished it anyway even though we just had a staple food (risotto)!

Overall, we enjoyed our dinner here and love to re-visit for the lobster linguini! ^_^

Humble House Humble Place Smile Dec 12, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant

I went on a Saturday noon without any reservation, thinking that who will wake up on a Saturday morning and go all the way to town to have lunch? Well, I was the exception since I wanted to make use of the voucher...

Alas, a couple was holding their ROM/wedding there so we cant have nice pictures of the tall velvet chair etc. We were told that we can order food from My Humble House menu while seated at Space ( beside My Humble House), so bo pian lor, we got to settle for a much simpler and less elaborated setting.. -_ ~~

Crispy Tiger Prawn Glazed with Citrus Cream on Grape Salsa - $14

One of my favorite definitely! I love the crispiness on the outside, and spongy texture on the inside. A pity that the serving was so little... Just one for each.

Steamed Fillet of Ocean Cod - $10

This was originally served with rice wine and red chilli sauce. We explained to the staff that we dun take spicy food and he helped us to change to mushroom and truffle sauce, no additional charge! The cod fish and the sauce complement each other ~ Sweetness.. Loved it!

Crispy Spiced Kurobata Pork Ribs in Sun-dried Tomanto Reduction - $14

I remembered having similiar dish at my fren's ROM at Humble House, so it was a must to order for me. It tasted like spared pork ribs served in a western manner ~ fusion indeed. Again, we had no complains for this dish...

Double Boiled Seafood Consomme in Young Coconut

This was fantastic! The soup was filled with goodies like scallops, prawns, mushrooms etc, and it was concentrated sweetness.. And there was still young coconut meat, which remained soft and tender. Must try, if you adore soups..

Wild Berries Lemongrass Gelo with Lime Sorbet - $8

This was basically ice jelly. Refreshing, a nice touch to wrap up our sumptuous lunch!

******

The portion are all meant for 1 pax. We ordered more variety to share, rather than have the same dish served in 2 portions. I think that is probably more econmical, looking at the price range. But since we had the voucher, so we boldly made our order! Keke

I loved most of my orders in terms of taste and presentation. It was really a work of art, with a hefty price though... I will definitely come again, at least to have the soup and the prawn, just to satisfy a little craving.. =p

Forest @ Resort World Sentosa Smile Nov 19, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hotel

Finally, the long awaited wedding anniversary lunch celebration! We had been postponing it as there was always something on on Sunday, and this 8 course set menu is only available on Sunday. Hey, at least we still "made it" within the month of June. =p

The restaurant is decorated in such a manner that keeps reminding you of its name Forest. Brown wooden pillars ( probably laminated) that branch out to the high ceiling, leaves featured wall, flowers, even the staff are donned in brown suit. My notti hubby suggested that the staff should wear a green cap so that they will look like walking trees. =_="

The 8 course lunch comprises of 13 dishes all together, and will take about 2 hours to finish the whole course. So do consider the timing when planning your schedule! Dont rush through the lunch and waste such a nice atmosphere!

1) Soup of the Day

Soup of the day is winter melon soup. Can really smell the aroma of the soup from far. Taste wise, I was expecting sweeter since it smelt so nice. Nonetheless, a tasty soup to warm the stomach and we were so ready for the delicacies! Bring it on!

2) Tuna Tartar marinated with Mango served in Cone

3) Baby Abalone in Thai Style

The abalone was slightly spicy, just enough to tease the tongue, complemented with a sour/sweet /spicy green apple salad. Even my silly hubby who doesnt like to eat abalone, said this dish was good.

4) Pan seared Hokkaido Scallop in Black Bean Sauce

5) Vietnamese Roll with Sliced Lobster in XO Chili Sauce

Obviously, the scallop being so huge already won the hearts. Yet I liked that it was treated in a very typical Chinese style with black bean sauce and fried shallots ( I think) even though the presentation said a different thing. I expected the sauce to be on the salty side just like the normal black bean sauce, but somehow this was just nice and I polished the sauce clean with the big fat scallop. Yum!

Again, the sauce accompanying the tasting portion adds a lot of points to the dish. I thought it tasted like Japanese sesame sauce. A pity that the lobster slice was a tab too little to really taste the natural sweetness, so that's why the sauce played a vital role.

6) Steamed Egg Chawanmushi with Crab Meat

Hey, I luv chunky crab meat that I don't have to shell myself. Hehe

7) Deep Fried Prawn with Crispy Cereal

A ball of springy prawn coated in fresh crispy cereal. Fresh because I really dont taste any symptom of oil, yet it was so crispy!

Tip of the day: Dun waste the cereal, eat it with the chawanmushi too!

8) Steamed Cod Fillet with Yunnan Ham and minced Ginger in Lotus Leaf

By now, we were almost full. The servings here really were really decent even though they are suppose to be tasting portions. I like that they never cut corners! It was okay, we can tahan and will definitely finish this course. *affirmation nod* So now, we were finally at the main course.

The cod fish was very smooth and literally just fell apart with a stroke from the fork, no knife needed! Since I have a shorter body, which means my nose is nearer to the plate, I can smell a very strong lotus leaf. I dunno why, but I thought that there was a tiny weeny bitter aftertaste, which I reckon was due to the lotus leaf. Overall, it was still a very delightful dish.

9) Wok Fried Beef Cubes accompanied with Pan-seared Foie Gras

Bet you cant tell, but there were foie gras cubes "hidden" amongst the beef tenderloin cubes. Now I'm the silly one, I just threw all the foie gras to hubby's plate. Me DUN LIKE foie gras.

The beef was pale compared to the other dishes, the meat was slighly tough but I still liked the wok fried fragrant. And dont forget to eat the crispy nest!

10) Braised Japanese Ramen with Crab Meat

11) Wok Fried Jap Pearl Rice with Smoke Duck and Sausage

The noodles tasted like chinese mee suan rather than ramen, smooth and silky but also like very 凊淡. Nonetheless, the chunky crab meat and tasty broth made up all!

Our stomach were protesting but still, we had to finish this coz it was so tasty! The Japanese pearl rice were fried until the texture seemed like glutinous rice with little bites of smoke duck and sausage here and there.

12) Mango with Pomelo

13) Pandan Cake with Crumbles

Thank goodness, desserts were light hearted instead of pulut hitam or durian cheesecake. It would have been an agony if those were served.

The pandan cake was very light & fluffy with the added crunch, wished that there were more crumbles though.

We ended off with tea!

Not sure whether tea/coffee was included in the set. We saw other customers left without having them, but yet we were not charged with extra cost.

Just for sharing, if you are thinking of coming here, why not sign up with RWS invite, which costs $150 for a year membership. In return, you will get $200 dining vouchers. More worth it right? ^_^
