搵到食 126 Eating House Smile Nov 19, 2014

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Dim Sum

This is one of my favourite dim sum shop, which offers a whole lot of dim sum varieties. I have not known any other places that has comparable number of varieties. If there's ample parking place, we would have visit it more often. Having said that, the dim sum shop is always packed with customers, especially during the lunch/dinner hours. My suggestion is to go there during the off-peak timing to avoid the crowds.

砂煲鲍贝粥 - $6

脆皮竽泥 - $3.50

扣肉包 - $3.50

Some hits and misses, which probably also depends on individual's liking, so I shall just list out my favourite items!

The claypot clam porridge was super nice and tasty, with generous serving of clam (at least 8 or 9 pieces), which was perfect for two to share.

I also liked the toasted bread with taro fillings. It reminded me of similar taiwan snack, which was taro filling sandwiched between two butter biscuits. If you order this, eat it when it is still hot so that the toast will be crispy.

The pork belly bun was another hit . The pork belly had a good proportion of the meat and fats, which leave you yearning for more without feeling greasy/guilty. The skin was surprisingly thin and tasted like the char siew bun skin.

Pricing was also pocket friendly. Usually we spent less than $40 for 2 pax, with a very satisfying tummy. =)

Teppei Japanese Restaurant Smile Nov 19, 2014

I've heard ravings about barachirashi at Teppei, and finally got an opportunity to try this out with a friend!

We were not working on a weekday noon, so we went there at about 11.30am ( lunch starts at 12pm), thinking that early bird will get the worm. *Palm face* There was already a long queue, and we thought we were being kiasu to be there half an hour earlier? Dubz... Why the office staff can spend time queuing when lunch is supposed to be just an hour? I also want to go work in their company. =_="

Thank goodness, we managed to get in for the first seating. In fact, we were the last 2 to go in. Really heng lor.. The place is very small, with just counter seats around the chefs' working area. I did a mental calculation, the restaurant probably can only accommodate 20 odds patrons at one time? Good luck if you intend to come in big group.

We were given free flow of side dishes while the chef prepared our chirashi. I particularly liked the stewed meat + radish which was good enough to be a dish on its own. The ingredients totally soaked up the sweet sauce so well, give me a bowl of rice!! Hee hee

Finally, our little bowl of seafood goodness came. The bowl was smaller than other places but com'on it was only $17.60!!! Where to find so cheap chirashi? If you think they cut corners and serve you substandard seafood, no lor... salmon, tuna, scallop, roe were all so fresh and sweet.

The Sushi Bar OK Nov 19, 2014

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi

I came to know of The Sushi Bar from my friend and had wanted to try it when it was still located at Level 3, FEP. Back then , there was no GST but the queue was crazy. We decided that we didnt like chirashi so much to queue too long and so I had never tried it until recently and now they charge GST. This means the business has hit the $1millon revenue target, congratulations!

Still needs to queue but the new place at Level 4 is much bigger, so hopefully you dont have to wait that long. Anyway, it was also by chance that I ended up first in queue when I dropped by on a weekday. My friend and I wanted to have early lunch and so we reached there at about 1130am. Only then I knew that the place open at 12pm. Called it blessing in disguise, the queue built up not long after I stood outside the shop.

They do allow reservation but you must make the reservation 1 week in advance. Alternatively, 'tabao' is another option to skip the queue, just order and pack away.

Most people will order the chirashi don which seems to be their signature dish? It comes in 3 type:

Basic Chirashi Don - Salmon/Tuna/Hamachi/Tobiko - $19.90

Normal Chirashi Don - Salmon/Tuna/Hamachi/Scallop/Ikura/Mekaigiki - $24.90

Premium Chirashi Don - Mixed Shashimi -$62.90

We ordered the Normal Chirashi Don which in my opinion, most worthwhile. The premium one is definitely out of my reach, I cant imagine spending over $60+ for a lunch and only one item lor. Anyway, the normal chirashi is good enough for me. The fish slices were super thick & fresh, so quite shiok to eat. There was quite a variety of fish types, but seriously, I didnt know what I was eating except for salmon and tuna. Lol

Song Kee Fish Ball Noodle OK Nov 19, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Noodles

$4 - Small (Top Picture)

$5 - Additional noodles

$6 - Additional ingredient (Bottom Picture)

We compared hubby's $6 bowl with my $4 one, the difference will be extra 2 big ball which tasted like meat and mushroom balls. This means it's $1 for each 'meatball'. Gosh, there was quite expensive.

Price aside, I do admit the noodles itself was pretty springy, least it didnt clog together like some other places. The fishball was definitely good, made purely with fish, which means more bouncy fishballs.

If you dont mind making your way for just fishball noodles, I suggest coming here earlier like 6 plus? Coming later at dinner time was a bad experience, we had to wait for more than 30mins and we finished the noodles in like 5 minutes? Definitely not worth the wait. *Shrugged*

Hinoki Smile Nov 19, 2014

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

This was the first time I tried 'omakase' and seriously I didnt know what to expect!

Appetiser

Uni with Egg Custard

Wild Vege with Bonito Broth

Cod Fish Sperm

The fish sperm was somehow challenging to finish. Taste wise kinda plain, texture was slimy and totally resembled a mini pig brain. Definitely not my kind of delicacy and obviously we didnt finish it.

Fresh Baby Eel with Mountain Yam

Oh no, another slimy item. =(

Flounder with Truffle Sauce

Tuna Belly

Scallop

Thank goodness, after the first 2 dishes, the rest of the items were more palatable.

I really liked this dish which combined my two favourite items, scallop and tuna belly, and my first time trying flounder. Fresh ingredients which required minimal seasoning, very satisfying indeed.

3 pieces of Specialty Nigiri Sushi and Horse Mackerel Mini Chirasi

This was another highlight of the day! I didnt know what were the aburi fish slices, but all of them tasted so good! I will definitely revisit Hinoki for its nigiri sushi!

Dessert

Japanese Musk Melon

Macha Mochi

Yuzu Sorbet

Finally, a delightful combination of typical japanese dessert to end the dinner. =)

We spent close to 2 hours to finish the 8 course dinner, which was priced close to $200 per pax. Although there were items that were too 'adventurous' for our liking, the overall experience was an enjoyable one.
