Red Bean Soup with Tang Yuan
The "Peanut Soup" stall in Maxwell Market specializes in peanut soup and red bean soup with tang yuan in it. The peanut soup is fantastic, slightly sweet, with pieces of peanut inside. You can also have the red bean soup which is slightly less sweet, with some peanuts inside as well. There is an option to add tang yuans into your soup, and they come in either peanut or sesame flavored filling! While the tang yuan's are the frozen type, this stall times the cooking of the tang yuan perfectly, such that the texture of the tang yuan served is perfect- nice and chewy! Recommended Dish(es):

Liu Sha Bao & Bo Luo Bao
The Scholar has the best Liu Sha Bao (Salted egg yolk) in town. With four baos per portion, the salted egg yolk is molten and slightly runny when you bite in into the soft and fragrant bao. It has a slightly more savory touch to it as compared to must other liu sha baos. I would rate it the best! The Bo Luo Bao there is not bad too. The crust is slightly sweet and crispy from the baking and sugar coating, and the char siew filling on the inside is savory, creating a perfect blend of sweet and salty. We also had the Sambal Four Vegetable. It was also very yummy especially for someone like me who loves spice. Recommended Dish(es):

From right to left, Assam Fish, Garlic Ladies Finger, Nonya Chap Chye, Sambal Petai, and Nonya Pork Ribs
Peramakan is serves authentic spicy and tasty Peranakan Food. The Assam Fish which is slightly spicy and sour was a special on the menu. The garlic ladies finger was tasty and cooked to perfection. The Nonya Chap Chye which comprises of beancurd skin, black fungus, and cabbage was fantastic, and goes very well with Peramakan's very own Sambal Belechan. The Sambal Petai which comes with prawns and cooked tomatoes, is my family's favourite. However, it is an acquired taste as Petai also known as the smelly bean, has a strong after taste. However, it is very healthy and good for detoxification. Lastly, the Nonya Pork Ribs is not spicy and highly recommended. Also , the desserts like durain puff, bubor terrigu ,and appom durian at Peramakan are awesome! I strongly recommend Peramakan if you are looking for authentic Peranakan food, but be sure to make a reservation before hand if you are planning to go there for dinner, as they tend to be fully booked at night. brown rice lei cha
The brown rice lei cha at Lei Cha is priced at $4 per portion. It is a very healthy meal comprising of brown rice, finely chopped celery, basil, peanuts, dried prawns and ikan bilis. The combination is very chewy and tasty. For those who do not like brown rice, the stall also offers a white rice version for just $3. The owner of the stall is also very friendly. I will definitely go back to Lei Cha for a healthy and economical lunch. Recommended Dish(es):

After trying sundubu chigae from the many korean restaurants in Singapore, this restaurant has one of the most authentic silken tofu soup. Diners can choose between pork or seafood. There was a lot of ingredients in the soup, it was filled with sotong, prawns, clams and of course, silken tofu. It's quite a spicy dish though, not suitable for those who can't take spicy food. I also had the spicy chicken, which wasn't awesome. The chicken was a little dry and hard, but nevertheless, the quite authentic korean spiciness made up for it. I would try the pork instead the next time. Similar to all korean restaurants, they serve some side dishes before the start of the meal. The side dishes were great, especially the kimchi and the steamed egg. The staff were very polite and helped us to a second round of side dishes when we requested. One thing to note would be the crowd during meal hours. I would recommend reserving before visiting the restaurant.
