Cheap and Good Steamboat Smile Oct 27, 2013

Parkway Parade Steamboat, hidden in the basement foodcourt at roxy square is the perfect place for affordable ala-carte steamboat in the comfort of air-conditioning. There are two soup options, either tom yam which is really quite spicy, or the chicken broth. I like mixing the tomyam with the chicken broth to make it milder. The meat, seafood, and vegetable here are very fresh, and my favorite steamboat ingredient, which is only served here, is called fish glue. It taste somewhat like fish cake, but only better.

Swedish Meatballs, Chocolate Almond Butterscotch Cake

Swedish Meatballs, Chocolate Almond Butterscotch Cake

I love the Swedish Meatballs at Ikea. While they no longer are in the shape of a ball, but more like a square, the taste is still as good as before. I believe what makes it so good, is actually the brown sauce it is topped with. Some people like it with the jam but I personally feel that the sweet taste spoils the food. The Meatballs now come with a scoop of mash potato instead of the boiled potato cubes from before, which is pretty good too. I completed my meal with the butterscotch chocolate almond cake which was fantastic, and goes perfectly with a nice cup of coffee!

Green Bean Soup, Iced Gingko Nut with Lotus Seed

Green Bean Soup, Iced Gingko Nut with Lotus Seed

I just love the chinese desserts at Teck Kee Hot & Cold Dessert. My favorite is the Iced Gingko Nut with Lotus Seed. The soup is light and flavourful, and it comes with a very generous serving of gingko nuts and lotus seeds. The combination of theses with the shaved ice on top makes the dessert, absolutely refreshing on a hot and sunny day. The green bean soup is also not bad. It is slightly different from the usual green bean soup with a tad bit of coconut milk in it. The Dao Suan from this stall is my dad's favourite. Unlike most dao suan's this one has lots of beans and little starch.

Red Bean Soup with Tang Yuan

Red Bean Soup with Tang Yuan

The "Peanut Soup" stall in Maxwell Market specializes in peanut soup and red bean soup with tang yuan in it. The peanut soup is fantastic, slightly sweet, with pieces of peanut inside. You can also have the red bean soup which is slightly less sweet, with some peanuts inside as well. There is an option to add tang yuans into your soup, and they come in either peanut or sesame flavored filling! While the tang yuan's are the frozen type, this stall times the cooking of the tang yuan perfectly, such that the texture of the tang yuan served is perfect- nice and chewy! smile

Smoke Salmon with Poached Eggs Salad

Smoke Salmon with Poached Eggs Salad

The salads at Cedele are wonderful. They do not just taste delicious, the portions served are huge, such that one can get filled on a low-carbohydrate healthy salad! Also, unlike most salads, Cedele's salads contains a wide variety of vegetable, and is not just limited to lettuce and tomatoes. My friend I and shared two salads. The Grilled Chicken Breast salad, was wonderful. The chicken breast was cooked to perfection- tasty, slighty charred and not too dry. The smoked salmon salad, had a slightly more savoury taste to it, and the runny yolk from the poached egg, blended well with the salad dressing, bringing out a delightful mix of flavours!
