A coffee shop within the shop houses along the same street as AVA hides stalls that sells really nice pig's organ soup by an elderly couple.

Down side, lunch hour the whole entire coffee shop would be really pack and that place is really warm. And the old couple would sometimes forget or mix up the orders.

The pig's organ soup sold by them does not have the over powering peppery taste which I really hate. The soup comes with pickled vegetable that adds on to the flavor of the soup making it more savoury. The chilli complements the soup alot as well.

This stall closes by 3pm according to the owner. If you are interested in 老味道, do remember to patronise early!

Low Budget Italian OK Sep 11, 2013

A cheap alternative place for italian food can be found in this place. There are a few outlets available currently. Currently there is one at Liang Court, Hougang1, city square, Bukit Timah Plaza, Toa Payoh Central and the newest branch can be found at The Cathay.

You can easily settle a meal within $10.

The chicken cubes in the stew is a little over done and tough, otherwise, it is not too bad as a overall.

Love the chicken. very tender and not over cook. The pork is a little over done as well and bland in taste. Not really a favourite.

If you are like me, who does'nt really fancy the 'beefy' taste in beef patty, then this dish is not really for you. Ma maison has better nicer hamburger steak. Then again, you are paying for what you get. If you wan better beef steak, I suggest you pick a better place.

The Saizeriya at The Cathay has a rather big venue and good for gathering.

Stumble upon this place just opposite suntec convention when my friends and I were looking for a quiet place for lunch.

If you have ever been to Marche and ate their marche crepe, well, the roasted chicken crepe at Fika taste just as good as that and best of all, it is much bigger in size and good enough to allow 2 small eater ladies to share that dish.

As for their Alio Olio with Meatballs, I would really say it's more of a disappointment. It's not that it does not taste good you see. More like we over estimated how it should taste like. When reminded of swedish food, I believe most singaporean would 1st think of Ikea's meatballs and since it's our 1st time stumbling into another swedish restaurant other than ikea, trying the meatballs became a must. Have to really say that these meatballs are a disappointment simple because it turned out more drier than the current ikea ones. meh.

The Korystroganoff is a rice dish that comes with a chicken and vegetable stew which taste very much like cheesey tomato puree. I would say it goes really well with the rice and also best eaten hot too.

Good food. Not enough manpower. OK Sep 29, 2013

Food taste awesome. Just portion is really not enough for a guy. Not too bad for a small eater girl though.
The Duck Confit taste a little like the Ayam Penyat in my opinion. Just too salty. The mash potato taste really superb with milky taste yet not too over powering. Skin of the duck confit can be rather tough. The mash potato wins more points from me.

Plus points: great service from great attitude servers.
Down side: waiting time during peak hour is horrible. Even when you get to go int the restaurant, it will probably take 15 minutes before your order is taken and 45mins to 1 hour for the food to serve. It's a small little place so don't expect it to be a quiet place but rather, the opposite spectrum instead.

Value for money OK Sep 22, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi | Buffet

Hidden at the basement level of The Cathay, Nihon Mura provides a wide range of choices for hungry patrons to satisfied their taste buds.

The sushi bar provides a over flowing plates of sushi and dishes from the menu and if you cant find what you want, you can also make ala carte order that is of affordable and attractive price range.

Mussels with mentai with a tinge of lemon juice over it brings out the freshness of the mussels. A pity that the Mentai is not 'roasted' over the fire enough. Other wise would taste even better without the fishy taste.

Classic sushi taste like the crabstick sushi or tuna sushi is also available to choose from.

Innovative sushi such as roast duck sushi is one of my favourite. Meat is tender and not bland.

Craving for some fried food? Tempura choices are also available. whether or not you are craving for some vegetable tempura or ebi fry, Nihon mura will satisfy your needs.

Sashimi comes in thickness just right. Not too small or thin. Honestly speaking, for the price you are paying, the sashimi is already very worth the price. After all, you get what you are paying for.

Overall, Nihon Mura is a place that is more affordable for even students or working adults who just want to satisfy their sushi craving yet not willing too pay too much for the food they are eating. A place value for money indeed.
