Was here for dinner. There was a long queue as expected. Other than being peak timing for meals, also because it is a Friday.

The salmon sashimi was not chilled upon contact with the tongue. No picture for this dish as it looked like any other salmon sashimi but taste is disappointing and doesn't deliver the way Sushi Tei used to.

Zaru soba: Hmm... probably not gonna eat this again, it was too hard to chew. this one doesnt come with quail egg (raw). I prefer their cha soba. but then again, as i later realised, it may be coz today's standards not up to par.

Ikura chawanmushi. initially i was impressed to see so much roe on top of the steamed egg shocked
verdict: can be much better. roe doesnt taste as fresh as other times. sad
'jap styled calamari'

'jap styled calamari'

This Japanese styled 'calamari' was surprising not bad. the squid meat was not rubbery at all. neither was it soggy. flour batter was fried till super crispy, akin tempura crumbs. best dish here this eveningtongue

The service was reasonably good considering the crowd and it being peak meal time. some servers were forgetful.

sliced beef with thick bee hoon

chopstick This used to be one of my fave beef noodles places in Singapore. As of today, no longer sad

Temperature: lukewarm food is not enticing at all
Noodles: can be softer
Sliced beef: very thin which is nice
Soup: somewhat sour shocked
Chilli: not as spicy as before

They had a renovation some time back and you no longer have to stand at the counter to queue for your food and self-collect. However, this means you are charged service charges now.

My bowl today costs slightly above $10.

Chinese late lunch at a place that had been here for ages.

Hokkien seafood noodles: piping hot when served, a bit too oily, otherwise the ingredients were reasonable fresh, and lotsa of noodles shocked but can do with more vegetables.
salted fish fried rice

salted fish fried rice

Salted fish fried rice: rice was pleasingly soft, few small prawns and bean sprouts. can do with more salted fish as I almost forgot that I was not eating normal fried rice sad and after finishing it, I realised there was a pool of oil left behind shocked

New outlet OK Sep 17, 2013

sashimi (sake + maguro)

sashimi (sake + maguro)

Itacho existed in ION Orchard long ago and is always seen with long queues around meal times. They have since shifted a level down. more spacious of course. Service was somewhat slow today. Also, they mixed up several orders of other patrons. Perhaps the excitement of the new outlet opening had a drain on the service staff. Probably re-visit for a re-assessment smile

Service: poor
Food: can be much better. the maguro in the picture was blue fin tuna. it was part of a huge fish that had been sliced in front of everyone due to its opening ceremony. it was not as fresh as i had expected sad
the salmon was actually better in taste and freshness even though there was a discount on that item.
oh! the tamagoyaki (original flavour) here was very nice. much nicer than the ones tried at their other outlets. we had the warm ones, and they were served at just the right temperature, sufficiently soft and mildly sweet. tamagoyaki is the japanese eggroll.
Ambience: Good, more spacious than the previous outlet

TGIF chill evening!! Yes they have Asahi beer (draft) here mad

We already had dinner (in another post) and hence didn't order much food here today. What we did order were bites that go well with drinks like beer

The menu available for indoor (where we sat) is slightly different from their outdoor menu. You cannot grill raw food indoors. What they can offer you, will be food that is already cooked 70% by their chef, and you do the rest of the grilling on a small portable table grill with charcoal prepared.

Ambience: good for gatherings and afterwork chillout. not so for dating as it can get rather noisy.
Food: worth a try, at least (this was my second visit)
Price: Average
Taste: I liked the grilled squid AKA sotong lol
Service: Polite and intermittently unattentive

By the way, edamame is $6 per grab (yes, the more you can grasp in 1 grabbing, the more you have to nibble on)
