Simple and Awesome ^^ Smile Feb 06, 2014

Another comparable competitor of good cafes around the area lol The place, being relatively new, has gathered steadily crowds flocking to the cafe especially during the peak hours.

Decorations are pretty simple with three loud peculiar portraits hung on the wall. The place is fairly constricted so seatings are limited. Reservations can be done via the DOC website. So it is advisable to reserve beforehand to avoid frustrating long wait.

To satisfy my sweet tooth, I ordered the Banana Rum Buttermilk Waffle with Vanilla ice-cream ($13). It was served with Maple Syrup but I didn't add any on my waffle as there was already powdered sugar on top. The waffle had a tinge of fragrance and it definitely looked appealing with the scoop of ice-cream enthroned on top. It was vanilla flavour and tasted quite authentic with small specks of vanilla seeds visible. Waffle was fluffy but not as crispy as I would have preferred. Overall, the waffle was not awesome but good comfort food.

My friend had the Smoked Salmon Scramble ($15.50). For this, I would think it was pretty awesome!lol
Salmon portion was generous and tasted very fresh. The accompanied scrambled egg with the pancake base complemented perfectly.

For coffee, we had Cappuccino ($5) and Iced Latte. Coffee here was strong and flavourful. Many suggest the premium hot chocolate milk, even a rendition of drip coffee liquer is available.

More than average quality food while price is reasonable. But space is limited so one would feel quite constrained and uncomfortable, especially when the cafe is jam-packed mad

Luscious custard cream puff ^^ Smile Feb 02, 2014

Beard Papa is well known for its signature cream puffs. I like the Strawberry one ($3.50) with its smooth and luscious Strawberry-flavoured custard bursting out from within a light pastry. The custard doesn't taste too sweet and the pastry outside is fluffy and light.

Tried the new flavour, Chocolate Gianduja ($3.50) which tasted actually like the hazelnut cream in Ferrero Rocher smile It was a welcoming change of flavour but I still prefer Strawberry puff lol

It is surely refreshing as one bites into the puff, it crumbles and generous helpings of chilled custard cream oozes out. It would be wonderful if the price is lower hehe lol

Satisfying Peranakan meal Smile Feb 02, 2014

Re-visiting this place again since there was a Groupon offer. I think it is a pretty good deal as one can even use it during weekends.

This time I ordered the Assam Fish Head ($34.90), Spicy Beef Rendang ($9.90) and Braised Homemade Spinach Beancurd ($12.90). The Assam Fish Head was not as good as I anticipated. The gravy was diluted (perhaps it is supposed to be) and bland. It tasted sourish but it lacked the rich Assam taste and it was not spicy at all (would prefer more zest of spiciness in it). There was plenty of fish meat but didn't taste as fresh sadly mad

The Beef Rendang, on a brighter note, tasted quite tantalizing. Tender Beef chunks stir fried in fragrant coconut milk, herbs and spices chopstick

To round up our meal, despite feeling full already, there is always room for desserts haha lol
I tried the Cendol ($4.50), a combo of rich and smooth coconut milk with jackfruit, red beans, grass jelly and palm sugar. It was sweet, surely and sinful as well haha

A satisfactory meal except that the Assam Fish failed to live up to expectations >< But the Groupon deal was a very worthwhile one indeed lol

Surprisingly Yummy Pho Smile Feb 02, 2014

Categories : Vietnamese

Vietnamese food has never been appealing to me. But considering the increasing number of new NamNam outlets kicking into business lately as well as the snaky long queue during peak hours, I decided to give it a try.

The place mainly offers Vietnamese Beef Noodles and sandwiches. As it was during the weekdays lunch hours, I opted to order the value set lunch of $9.90 for a bowl of noodles, a drink and a small side salad.

Had the Beef Pho and Lotus tea for my drink. The clear soup tasted slightly bland with a note of sweetness though. It was claimed to be free of MSG. But there was a range of condiments one can choose to add into the soup. I didn't as I don't really like the idea of taking artificial seasoning. The portion of Beef slices was more than I have expected and I really like that the meat was tender and served medium rare!! lol

I enjoyed my bowl of piping hot noodles and the side salad. But hmm the Lotus Tea tasted pretty weird, a taste that I could not really locate >< Tried the Viet Black Coffee and it was quite strong and good!

Overall, decent Vietnamese food at reasonable price. I would prefer this outlet as it is big with plenty of seats available. There is even a big projector on the wall playing a short clip about the history of Vietnamese food. A pleasant atmosphere and you wouldn't feel crampy and stuck like the small NamNam at RafflesCity basement haha lol

First-rate AngKuKueh ^^ Smile Feb 01, 2014

Categories : Chinese | Coffeeshop

For almost 16 years this Kueh shop has been up and selling the traditional Chinese Ang Ku Kueh (means red tortoise dumpling in Hokkien). And the reason why the shop has been operating for almost two decades is none other than the high quality of the Kueh.

Firstly, one would be spoilt for choices as there is a variety of types of filling such as Coconut, Peanut, Yam, Salted Bean as well as exotic flavours like Durian ^.^

Secondly, the Kueh skin is awesomely good, tender, thin, chewy (like Mochi) and yet does not stick to the teeth. Lastly, the filling is very generous and pricing is indeed reasonable!

The current popular Mochi would offer even more exotic flavours but I definitely would opt for this instead. The taste and texture of this AngKuKueh outwin every bit of the most Mochi I have tried. Why pay double or even triple the price for a minute Mochi?

Furthermore, the Kueh has the unique pattern of a tortoise with the Chinese character 寿 (means longevity) in the middle smile Long Live AngKuKueh lol
