First-rate AngKuKueh ^^ Smile Feb 01, 2014

Categories : Chinese | Coffeeshop

For almost 16 years this Kueh shop has been up and selling the traditional Chinese Ang Ku Kueh (means red tortoise dumpling in Hokkien). And the reason why the shop has been operating for almost two decades is none other than the high quality of the Kueh.

Firstly, one would be spoilt for choices as there is a variety of types of filling such as Coconut, Peanut, Yam, Salted Bean as well as exotic flavours like Durian ^.^

Secondly, the Kueh skin is awesomely good, tender, thin, chewy (like Mochi) and yet does not stick to the teeth. Lastly, the filling is very generous and pricing is indeed reasonable!

The current popular Mochi would offer even more exotic flavours but I definitely would opt for this instead. The taste and texture of this AngKuKueh outwin every bit of the most Mochi I have tried. Why pay double or even triple the price for a minute Mochi?

Furthermore, the Kueh has the unique pattern of a tortoise with the Chinese character 寿 (means longevity) in the middle smile Long Live AngKuKueh lol

Highlander coffee has been around since 2006. Many said that this place serves the best coffee in Singapore. In my opinion, I could not agree more about it.

Food selections here is quite limited as the place is more devoted to serving real good coffee. But who cares when you can enjoy a great cuppa coffee right haha lol

There are ready-made sandwiches, pastries, cakes and cookies to go along but are nothing exceptional unlike the coffee. Again, it does not really bother me.

Pay this place a visit definitely to get your caffeine fix! But another downside of the place would be the limited seats inside as the cafe is actually pretty small. Maybe a takeaway would be better during the weekends.

Yummy and Healthy ^^ Smile Feb 28, 2014

Nowadays the public has been getting more health-conscious with many public eat-out health initiatives going on. Kopitiam has been promoting the preferred choice for brown rice, brown vermicelli, less salt and less sugar.

Tried the steamed gourmet as I am a fan of brown rice. I like the chewy solid texture of the rice. The dishes here are all steamed, appealing to those who like the light and healthier cooking style.

Overall, though being priced steeper than the others, I really like the food here, mainly simply it is healthy and yet delicious!! ^^

A really good one indeed Smile Oct 16, 2013

The cafe has opened since 15/10/12. It was then their first anniversary. Having been hanging out around Holland V often, I have no idea how I would have missed out this really good d'Good Cafe indeed.

The cafe is actually on the second and third-storey near Starbucks. But you can't really miss it as the cafe signage board is easily noticeable. And for those too lazy to take the stairs, there is a in-built lift! I think it is quite cool haha lol

For food, I strongly recommend their pasta especially my favourite Prawn Aglio-Olio ($16) The prawns were really succulent and there were like seven chunky prawns in my pasta! ^^ This is generous for the price they are charging. Ordered the Portobello Pasta with tomato sauce ($14) too. I am a mushroom fan. So it satisfied me to have so much mushroom in my pasta hehe. But unfortunately the noodles were a bit overcooked and so it was kinda soft. I would have preferred the noodles with a springy kind of feeling mad

My friends ordered the Breakfast set ($16.50) and Egg Benedict ($13). I think one can give the Breakfast set a miss. It was just ordinary. The scrambled eggs were slightly too cooked but what was worse, was the burnt bacon. As seen in the photo, one can easily tell the bacon was way too charred. But the consolation was that at least the staff was apologetic about it and promptly re-did it. I guess they might have missed it during the busy lunch hours.

Coffee was good. It is just an additional $3 for a top up of latte if you order the Breakfast set or Egg Benedict. I would have requested for a bear for the latte art instead of the boring leaf. But decided against that since it was then the busy hours.

In a nutshell, pasta and coffee are both great in terms of taste and affordability. And the ambience is really good for relaxation and chilling out. There are two swings with tables for dining with a view facing outside, kinda romantic hehe smile And there is also alfresco seating area on the third floor which is beautifully decorated.. Ahh an ideal place to have dinner with the cool weather and night lightings

The East Gem with Good Coffee Smile Oct 14, 2013

Situated along the stretch of East Coast Road, one can easily spot this small cafe nearby the famous Prawn Mee stall. This cafe has been much raved about as one of the few precious cafe gems in the East. Haha it was no wonder that the place was packed then.

The decorations and lightings give off a rustic ambience. There were huge bookshelves at one side of the wall holding books and some merchandise like KeepCups for purchase. Seatings are quite limited. But there are some carrel-kind of table seatings which would be ideal for chatting and gossiping with more privacy hehe

Ordered my favorite Egg Benedict with smoked salmon ($12). There is a choice of turkey ham instead too. The hollandaise sauce on top was too generous that it felt a bit gelat. But what really bothered me was my poached eggs were a bit too well done. It was not as runny as it should, the egg yolks were a bit too solid. I would love if the brioche were to be toasted.

Had affogato for dessert. It is heavenly to combine espresso with vanilla ice cream. But, for someone like me who is particular about eating only real good ice cream so that the calories are worth it haha, it was disappointing as the ice cream were like the standard of Walls ice cream.

Nevertheless coffee was great! Good coffee never fails to make me happy even if the food were just satisfactory hehe smile Ordered the Mud Espresso with cold milk ($5.50) and it was GOOD! Kinda cool that it was served in a glass container thingy instead of a normal glass.

There is quite a variety of food choices. There is no GST or service charge! I would definitely return to this place, preferable on a weekday so that I can sit there longer to chill lol
