The best Chai Tea Latte Smile Feb 26, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : American

Talking about Tea Latte, I am always on the look out for good Chai Tea Latte. I have tried the Chai Tea Latte from Starbucks, Tea Dot, Chaiholics, Coffee Bean and Spinelli.

My verdict is Coffee Bean has so far the best Chai Tea Latte so far!lol

The Chai taste is strong yet of course not overpowering. I am most disappointed with the Starbucks rendition as the Chai taste was too mild and if one were to ask for richer taste it would be then too sweet as its Chai powder is already pre-mixed with sugar.

Have a cuppa of Chai, aromatic and flavourful, best taken when it is piping hot. Its flavorful spice coupled with warm skimmed milk leaves a nice warm aftertaste. Enjoy a wonderful Chai-time with a slice of cake, biscotti or cookies to go along!! ^^ (on a side note, the Matcha Tea Latte is another good option for a mildly sweet soothing hot drink smile)

Mediocre Hong Kong Cuisine food OK Feb 25, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Dim Sum | Roasted Meat

Canton Paradise offers Hong Kong cuisine, ranging from DimSum, Wanton noodles, Congee to meat and vegetable dishes. Among all the usual common dishes in the menu, it is the Crispy BBQ Pork Buns which is actually the main reason why I like to frequent this place lol
Headed to the branch at Jcube, the restaurant dining setting is very pleasant with comfortable cushion seats and spacious doing space.

Ordered the Crispy BBQ Pork Buns ($4.80 for 3pcs), Seafood Hor Fun ($12.80), Fish Belly Congee and Taro with Chicken and Prawn Puff ($4.80 for 3pcs). The crispy buns were, in my opinion, comparable as those in Tim Ho Wan with its flaky crust and generous portion of Char Siew filling. The Taro puffs, on the other hand, were a total flop. When it was served, it was not hot but rather cold. It just failed to deliver the usual satisfaction which comes when one bites into a steaming hot puff. The filling was not flavourful with barely discernible amount of chicken and prawn meat inside.

The Congee had a silky smooth texture but I think Crystal Jade has a better rendition of congee. The congee here tasted a tad too bland. The HorFun looked really appealing with its yellowish egg in the gravy. The noodles was slurpy smooth but gravy was not enough that some parts of the dish were dry.

Some hits and misses but on the whole, food quality is average. Other dishes, except most of the DimSum items, are worth a try. But don't expect too much despite its slightly steep pricing.

Spending per head: Approximately $15(Lunch)

Yummy rice grains ^^ Smile Feb 23, 2014
Categories : Taiwanese

Another healthy option for the health junkies! A 'fast-food' chain (all ingredients are already prepared beforehand) which sells realty rice roll, porridge, drinks and pudding.

There are six types of healthy rice grains to choose from, each type with different health properties and texture. I tried the purple rice and it was really 'QQ' with the toothsome chewiness. One rice roll ($4.50) was already quite filling for a meal as all the rice grains have low glycemic index which, unlike refined white rice, would not cause sugar spike.

For the toppings of rice roll, one can choose up to five toppings from a wide array of ingredients ranging from meat, floss, to mock vegetarian meat and vegetables.

For a smaller QQ rice, one can buy a snack roll which are already pre-mixed. Tried the Spicy Ikan Bilis ($2.80). The spiciness was appetizing while the rice was a mixture of purple rice and mixed grains.

Price might have been a bit steep for just a small rice roll while one could have bought a proper plate of Mixed Vegetables Rice with three to four side dishes. But the rice grains are costly which explains the price.

Drinks-wise, they offer a variety of healthy options such as Matcha SoyMilk, Purple rice Soy and Mulberry Tea.

For a healthy quick grab for take-away, QQ rice definitely would be a great choice for a filling wholesome meal! lol

Tantalizing to the taste buds Smile Feb 23, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Sichuan | Food Court | Steamboat/Hot Pot

I always like spicy food as I enjoy how the spiciness would tantalize my taste buds. It is definitely even better that I get to choose whatever ingredients I would want to include in the hot pot.

The MaLai stall offers one the option of the desired spiciness level. I chose the moderate spiciness as my threshold is not very high.

Pricing-wise is actually a bit on the high side but well it is Food Republic so one would anticipate higher pricing range. I paid about $15 for the MaLai pot with rice which was enough for two persons. I like the spice and it wasn't too oily. It came with peanuts, adding on a crunchy touch. I would surely opt for this stall among all the others if I am at Food Republic again the next time.

Spending per head: Approximately $8(Lunch)

Wholesome ZiChar meal ^^ Smile Feb 20, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

One of the long-standing ZiChar restaurant established many years ago, the place has garnered steadily more and more customers over the years. Indeed the food quality has been maintained so far which keeps people patronizing continually.

Went there for dinner under my friend's invitation for a Zi Char treat. And ahh gladly I left the place happily satiated lol

The Fried noodles looked really inviting with the runny egg yolk served on top. Taste-wise it didn't disappoint either and it wasn't too oily as well. The beancurd with minced pork was good as well with its flavorful gravy with a zest of slight spiciness. Other dishes were all equally well-executed.

In conclusion, this would be one of my ZiChar places to head over for a reasonably-priced wholesome dinner smile *thumbs up*
